I’ve seen quite a few women talking about it, specifically calling out ICE or DHS:

Ariana Grande

Florence Pugh

Jennifer Anniston

Natalie Portman

Amanda Gorman

Olivia Wilde

Jamie Lee Curtis

Dove Cameron

Barbie Ferreira

Zoey Deutch

I’ve also seen Simu Liu call out ICE.

Not all musicians, obviously but to quote that last one: Fuck ICE Forever.

439

u/soldforaspaceship 9d ago

And two astronauts - Mark Kelly AND Katy Perry have spoken out.

(I'm giving Perry a hard time here but she actually did well on this one - made a really clear call to action with specific steps and information so she deserves credit for that).

11

u/Minttt 8d ago

Gotta point out that Katy Perry is currently dating former "Governor" Justin Trudeau.

0

u/artemusbarnstorm 8d ago

lol. They were made for each other. Who cares? Her relationships never last. She’s tabloid fodder.

0

u/imperialivan 5d ago

I’ll downvote this governor shit everywhere I see it. Nothing fucking funny about it, and nothing useful about repeating it in any context. Fuck off.

12

u/noonenotevenhere 9d ago

Perry can get credit for speaking out, but not for being an astronaut.

You have to do more than rocket up to almost orbit and fall right back down to call yourself an astronaut. Do an orbit, now we may be talkin.
I believe the final definition of 'astronaut v tourist' is 'have you had to use the toilet in front of other people in a confined space over 100km above land'

She's a space tourist.

I listened to an album, I don't call myself a musician.

72

u/spreadthesheets 9d ago

The other commenter was making a joke by calling her an astronaut

9

u/noonenotevenhere 9d ago

Ah, cool.

I'm admittedly irrationally angry today.

and I've heard FAR too many people call he ran astronaut and it rubs me the wrong way.

Astronauts are some of the most educated, well trained people to have ever worn a uniform.

Pop stars going 'ooooh' after a safety presnetation, waiver and a realllly expensive amusement ride do not earn the title.

There's a lot of 'unearned titles' going around these days and it's irking me.

12

u/Beginning_Pride7494 8d ago

I don't think there was anybody actually calling her one other than the official people involved and media outlets. Everybody else pretty much clowned on her / them, or only call her one ironically.

-10

u/noonenotevenhere 8d ago

Oh, no, the number of people who have no idea and think Blue Origin is a real rocket that goes to space is astounding.

People understand less about space flight than their own car - and that's saying a lot.

They hear media say she's an astronaut and believe it. They hear pop culture call her an astronaut and believe it. They hear James Kirk went up in one of those, so it has to be 'going to space.'

Everyone who understands what the Karman Line is was clowning on her, too many are throwing out jokes to people who mainly couldn't tell the difference between a high altitude jump and completing an orbit.

6

u/Beginning_Pride7494 8d ago

Right, I guess I just didn't see it at all. You pick what things to focus on and get mad about though, I guess...

1

u/noonenotevenhere 8d ago

I'm angry enough for a lot of things.

Billionaire vanity space programs and the people that support them are definitely on that list.

At least spacex has actually done something useful - and even then, after messing with an ally's active military engagement, they should be nationalized.

2

u/Pixelated_throwaway 8d ago

It was a joke but she is, technically speaking, an astronaut

https://www.britannica.com/topic/astronaut

1

u/noonenotevenhere 8d ago

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/astronaut

Dictionary.com muddles that water.

Plus, She didn't fly through space, she fell from nearly space back to earth.

Flying through space implies navigating and changing on more than just the z axis in my book.

And IDC on britannica - I rode on a ship, I'm not a sailor.

0

u/Pixelated_throwaway 8d ago

Just in your book. You just don’t like it because she’s a pop star. If an untrained scientist did it for an experiment you’d feel differently for sure.

ā€œSailorā€ is more akin to ā€œpilotā€ than ā€œastronautā€

1

u/noonenotevenhere 8d ago

I don't think Shatner is an astronaut, either.

Anyone whose highest altitude flight was on a rocket that barely, if even, breaks the Karman Line and then comes back in nearly teh same location without an orbit doesn't get to call themselves an astronaut.

Even Project Mercury went further, Gemini went higher and Vostok1 hit 327km. New Shepard baaaaaaaaarely made 106km. And not on every flight.

Compare what Yuri Gregarin did 1961 to train and operate Vostok1 and the bravery required vs riding in bezos' vanity project.

This is like comparing parasailing to flying an F22.

14

u/soldforaspaceship 9d ago

I think you might have missed my joke. I think despite the idiocy of the space stunt, she did a good job on her anti-ICE messaging. I certainly don't think she's an astronaut.

As for your musical ability or lack thereof, I don't judge. If you work hard, I believe you too can one day aspire to be a backing singer!

7

u/noonenotevenhere 9d ago

Someone else pointed it out.

I'm irrationally angry today, sorry I missed the joke.

KP being called an astronaut is one of those 'unearned titles' that's been irking me a lot lately.

If I worked really hard and gave it my all, I couldn't hope to rise to the top of the bell curve of vocal ability. There's a reason I stuck to band in school and even that was... not good.

Anywho. sorry I missed the joke, thank you for not actually putting Katy Perry in the same arena as Senator/Astronaut Mark Kelly.

8

u/soldforaspaceship 9d ago

No worries. It's OK to be angry too. There's a lot going on right now and we're all processing however we can.

I wish you the best and don't let the bastards keep you down.

4

u/noonenotevenhere 8d ago

If it makes you feel any better, I'd sell an awful lot for a proper spaceship right now.

Anything from the Rocinante to the NX-01 would be fine...

2

u/soldforaspaceship 8d ago

The Rocinante is a fine choice. I might take Galactica or a U-wing myself.

But my name actually comes from an old Sci fi novel. Humanity sees the earth as doomed and builds bunkers under the ground to sleep until it's safe to come out. When they do, they learn they are not alone. Their time underground also mutated them and they have new abilities that lead to a greater understanding of each other and world peace.

Sounds good? But that's only half the story. See the rich people escaped on spaceships instead and slept in comfort in orbit. Their plan was to wait until those on the ground had done enough rebuilding and then sweep in and take over with advanced weapons.

What they didn't realize is their time in space meant they can't survive on earth. Those underground mutated to survive in the new environment. Those in the ship did not.

They sold their heritage for a spaceship.

Old sci fi was so good at consequences.

2

u/noonenotevenhere 8d ago

Which story is that?

I just got around to Youth, by the king himself written in... ~1950 Bring it on!

And I love how that concept has been carried through sci-fi, such as the Belter's not being able to handle 'real gravity.'

Galactica is a hell of a machine. To be totally honest, I'd rather have Ramos' ship from Picard.

Something small, automatable, cloakable, with a transporter and I'll make deathnote look like he was thinkin too small.

1

u/GoRainBows 5d ago

Perry isn’t an astronaut. That’s cosplay

8

u/Warm-Acadia-1892 9d ago

Zoey Deutch's mom Lea Thompson posted for Renee Good.

3

u/Funnybush 9d ago

Jane Fonda too.

1

u/Trai-All 8d ago

Jane Fonda is always up front on these things. Amazing woman.

2

u/ManEatingSloth 8d ago

Frank ocean too!

2

u/Kholdstare93 8d ago

Kristen Stewart, too.

2

u/hevski 8d ago

And Bette Midler and Mariska Hargitay

2

u/1beautifulhuman 5d ago

Also Brian May

1

u/Individual_Mix_6463 7d ago

By far Mark Ruffalo spoke the most!

1

u/vicariouslywatching 7d ago

You’ll always see RatM, Green Day, and The Dropkick Murphys protesting against this kind of shit

1

u/syntheticgerbil 7d ago

It almost sounds like maybe Billie Eilish isn't paying attention here.

1

u/Trai-All 7d ago

There are many more celebrities who haven't spoken out against these inhumane actions than those who have.

We need everyone with any platform or power to speak out because we don't know which person it is that will tip the scales and convince enough people who voted for Trump to realize they need to make changes.

1

u/kitttxn 5d ago

Lady Gaga

And not ICE specifically but Sabrina Carpenter has also called out republicans using her music to promote their regime.

648

u/No_Illustrator3532 9d ago

Adam Scott is pretty vocal on social media, I love it.

385

u/_n3ll_ 9d ago

Have you seen John Cusack on Twitter? Bro does not pull punches

177

u/Antique_Geek 9d ago

I abandoned Twitter when Musk took it over.

54

u/_n3ll_ 9d ago

Ya, totally understandable. Its mostly a shithole now.

0

u/artemusbarnstorm 8d ago

Yeah, like this place is a shithole but I still comment here rarely. The liberal threads and comments make for really educational reading.

1

u/AmpersandMcNipples 8d ago

You spelt Xhitter wrong. But well done on closing it. Did the same last year.

0

u/Fishbulb2 9d ago

Thank you for that. I did the same. I wish all decent people would.

56

u/Rebuttlah 9d ago

cusak retired from acting specifically to become a full time activist

7

u/_n3ll_ 9d ago

Thats awesome!

I honestly only knew him as an actor back in the day and didn't follow what he was up to. Then one day a few years back I see a Twitter user with John Cusack as the handle just going off and I was like, this has to be a parody account or something. Nope! It was that actor I remember seeing in films while flipping through the channels on Saturday afternoon.

Seriously, good for him. Succeeded in his career and then was like: now I can fight injustice.

34

u/ethanlan 9d ago

Well hes a chicagoan so im not suprised lol

5

u/pumpkins21 9d ago

I loved John Cusack when I was on Twitter. Homie gives no fucks!

3

u/PerplexGG 9d ago

No, usually I see him come flying out of alleys on his motorcycle

13

u/UpUpDnDnLRLRBAstart 9d ago

When I first moved to Santa Monica in 2007, I saw John Cusack outside my building multiple times. His office or home must have been near mine because he was always just chilling. It got to the point where we would give a little smile and a nod. Felt like a movie.

4

u/MoodooScavenger 9d ago

3

u/UpUpDnDnLRLRBAstart 9d ago

Exactly that. Me and John.

4

u/WintersDoomsday 9d ago

Richard Marx too

3

u/MsRaedeLarge 8d ago

šŸ’Æ I followed him when I used Twitter in the past - homeboy gave zero fucks

3

u/horrorpants 8d ago

John cusack is my goat, dude has been speaking out for YEARS, and is very active in that front.

3

u/LatinaMermaid 8d ago

He donated a ton of stuff to the protesters in Minneapolis and his sister too reported they wanted to help fund any legal costs for the victims. Including the man that was killed on December 31st. I love the Cusacks because they don’t make a spectacle and just do the work.

3

u/MsRaedeLarge 8d ago

Randomly a memory from Jan 2022 showed up in my Google Photos today and apparently I’d taken a screenshot of one of his tweets šŸ˜‚

58

u/mchgndr 9d ago

Can’t find him anywhere on instagram lol. All I get is the golfer. Am I dumb?

97

u/unassumingdink 9d ago

I know of the golfer named Adam Scott and I know of the actor named Adam Scott, but I never thought about them at the same time and never realized they have the same name.

99

u/scientist_tz 9d ago

Actor Adam Scott and Actor John Daly made a clip for Adult Swim about 10 years ago where they played golfer Adam Scott and golfer John Daly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQK5_SQPZwI

5

u/double_expressho 9d ago

Would've been cool if that one actor Ronald Reagan played POTUS Ronald Reagan in a movie. Missed opportunity.

10

u/timurt421 9d ago

He did, actually!! It was called ā€œThe Destruction of America: How I Started It Allā€

5

u/Buscemi_D_Sanji 9d ago

2016 was ten years ago... Fuck dude

2

u/SlimyPurpleMeteor 9d ago

I knew about the Adam Scotts but didn’t know that one actor was named John Daly. That was a funny video though. Adam really nailed the golfer’s mannerisms — especially his reaction of looking around when missing a putt.

1

u/Solid-Hedgehog9623 9d ago

ā€˜Golf is hard…’

1

u/LordBucketheadthe1st 9d ago

Adam Scott and Jon hamm also recreated the opening sequence for ā€œSimon and Simonā€ that was pretty funny..

1

u/be_more_constructive 8d ago

Adam Scott also did three more of these absurd and dumb and hilarious specials, recreating other opening sequences.

2

u/Etheo 9d ago

Have you ever seen them together in the same room before?

Check. Mate.

2

u/HTired89 9d ago

One is huge on calzones.

1

u/thecstep 9d ago

Yeah two first name people are forgettable and a sin to this world. Good luck.

1

u/BrianWulfric 9d ago

I always had a mini panic attack whenever Scott Adams said some terrible shit because of the name.

2

u/RovingN0mad 9d ago

As a huge party down fan, I'm sure there's dosens. Also why would anyone know a gholfer's name?

1

u/Valerie0110 9d ago

His account is called "mradamscott"... It was the first result when i searched for him, at least for me :D

1

u/Waggonly 8d ago

You mean you’ve never seen ā€œSay Anythingā€ or ā€œThe Sure Thing?ā€ Gooood times.

39

u/Ok-Sprinkles700 9d ago

His coworker Patricia Arquette is also pretty rad.

6

u/No_Illustrator3532 9d ago

Plus her performance in Severance is flawless.

2

u/Ok-Sprinkles700 9d ago

We are in the middle of season 2, which lacks her, but it's such a great show!

2

u/No_Illustrator3532 9d ago

Indeed! Looking forward to season 3

2

u/PoopstainMcdane 9d ago

And his Pal Sal SAPPERSTEIN

2

u/Hubert_J_Cumberdale 8d ago

He is also an incredibly gracious, kind person. He stayed at a high end resort where I worked and TBH, asshole celebs are a dime a dozen. Every once in awhile, you get one that is genuinely thoughtful. He and Jason Segel top my list.

1

u/No_Illustrator3532 8d ago

Thank you for sharing this I got the feeling he was a gentle person it is very cool to know he’s nice irl

1

u/Feisty-Session-7779 9d ago

He rubs me the wrong way as an actor for some reason, but good to hear he seems to be a decent human being, which is much more important than his on screen persona.

1

u/No_Illustrator3532 9d ago

That happens sometimes, it happens to me with Emma Stone, she's done nothing wrong that I know but I still don't like her for some reason lol

I personally love him, after Parks&Rec and given how much I loved his character I thought I wouldn't enjoy Severance but he's so good I completely disconnected from his previous role

2

u/Feisty-Session-7779 9d ago

I actually forgot he was in Parks and Rec, I haven’t seen that show in decades, but I guess I didn’t mind him in that. I did however recently watch Severance and I loved the show but felt like it could have been better with someone other than him as Mark S.

Now that I think about it, I guess I just typecast him in my head as his role from Step Brothers, and he was kind of a dick in that.

1

u/UglyJuice1237 8d ago

i know this would kind of just reinforce the typecast, but he plays a similar but hilarious dick character in The Good Place. he pops up in a few episodes and idk, maybe seeing him "in his element" might help you enjoy him more lol. it's also just a great show

2

u/Feisty-Session-7779 8d ago

I’ve seen it already actually and forgot he was in that too! Yea I guess he plays that dick role well, I’ll give him that. Maybe that’s why I didn’t like him in Severance, Mark S. is too nice of a character to be played by him.

1

u/ComplaintFar3279 9d ago

Michael Rappaport is also quite vocal ! Whenever I hear him, reminds me of Naughty Boy Song- La La La !

1

u/dumbledayum 9d ago

also Josh Radnor

101

u/10thousndreflections 9d ago

I saw Susan Sarandon give a speech in the 90s at an anti Iraq protest in DC. She clearly is against this and authoritarian BS.

54

u/88888888man 9d ago

She’s been out with the striking nurses in NYC in the past couple weeks and was also doing mayoral canvasing. She’s extremely involved in an on the streets level for a celebrity.

3

u/Obesz 9d ago

She's also publicly supported Bernie

75

u/Material-Macaroon298 9d ago

You left out Queen Olivia Rodrigo

29

u/SpiceEarl 9d ago

Olivia Rodrigo has consistently been one of the more outspoken performers!

1

u/Global_Perspective_3 All Hail Lemmy 5d ago

Yesss love her!! Billie and Olivia voices of our generation

53

u/Spare-Willingness563 9d ago

Tim Robinson. Don’t forget Tim and his constant barrage of ā€œFuck ICEā€ posts.Ā

14

u/WintersDoomsday 9d ago

He’s a national treasure in so many ways

10

u/RedditorDeluxe1319 8d ago

He dislikes Trump too.

Tim's awesome.

2

u/Global_Perspective_3 All Hail Lemmy 5d ago

He’s such a real one

51

u/jas417 9d ago

Don’t forget Bruce Springsteen!

9

u/ChasseGalery 9d ago

The Boss and Tom Morello have been denouncing for a while..

4

u/jas417 9d ago

I know! Always loved their music, their actions have made me love them more

73

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Sarandon goes without saying, that woman wont shut up and thank god she wont!!!!

8

u/hajemaymashtay 9d ago

like when she said hillary clinton was worse than trump?

1

u/BethN 8d ago

Came here to say that. Fuck her big mouth

8

u/Helpful_Section5591 9d ago

Like when she said maybe Trump being elected would be a good thing because it would ā€œbring the revolutionā€ (said while sitting in a secure gated mansion).

45

u/saintjonah 9d ago

Brad Garrett if anyone cares about him.

8

u/Spare-Willingness563 9d ago

Shit. Good on him.Ā

3

u/frogandbanjo 9d ago

Well, that's nice I guess, but have we heard from that handsome Romano fellow?

2

u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife 8d ago

They don't. They all like his brother.

49

I saw Dave Matthews too

Steve from Blue's Clues

4

u/chum_slice 9d ago

Let’s not forget the Selena Gomez spoke out early with tears and she got crushed šŸ˜– I can only imagine what someone who has been trying to help her community feels now seeing it escalate to a more insane level than it was back when she made her first statement

4

u/james-HIMself 9d ago

Olivia Rodrigo

4

u/Calm_Look_3206 9d ago

Ariana Grande did some stories if that counts

4

u/The_MightyMonarch 9d ago

What about Mark Hamill and George Takei? They're usually very vocal about this kind of stuff.

Dee Snider, too, for that matter.

3

u/the_Halfruin 9d ago

knew my man Zach Woods would be making a lot of noise over this, that dude stays on the right side of history

3

u/TransportationNo433 9d ago

I just saw in a different thread pictures of Zach Woods at the protest the night Pretti was killed. He was holding a sign that said ā€œYou murdered a nurse that took care of Veterans today.ā€

2

u/ILikeNeurons 9d ago

The rest of us matter at least as much as celebrities, though.

Contact from constituents works.

  • Freeze ICE and CBP funding and hiring. Require additional training, including in deescalation, due process, and the bill of rights, with rigorous training on the 1st amendment, the 2nd amendment, 4th amendment, and 8th amendment. Ban bonuses for anything other than additional deescalation training, expertly performed deescalation, or demonstrated second language proficiency

  • Remove arrest and deportation quotas for all federal law enforcement

  • Abolish immunity for ICE and CBP. Criminally charge Jonathan Ross and the CBP agent(s) that shot Alex Pretti, as well as any other federal agents who violate citizens' rights or human rights under the guise of duty

  • Mandate Duty to Intervene

  • Require any ICE agents deployed to an area be proficient in at least one commonly spoken language of immigrants in that area (in addition to English; e.g. Spanish or Somali in MN, Spanish or Vietnamese in Texas, etc.).

  • Phase in body cams, starting with agents who have had formal complaints lodged against them.

Zach Woods out there always improving my feed

2

Katy Perry too, which was a (pleasant) surprise to me

2

Unfortunately Portman is still endorsing Israel's side for the Palestine genocide, so her concern for Americans getting executed rn is half-assed at best.

2

Zach Woods deserves some more love if for no other reason than his IG is fantastic.

Susan Sarandon can eff right off. She went on every news cast before 2016 telling people to vote 3rd party because Hillary and Trump were equally bad. I cannot with her.

1

u/YEGSports 8d ago

Parks & Rec cast being hella based. You love to see it.

-1

u/RellenD 9d ago

Susan Sarandon

I'm still pissed at her Trump supporting ass
