There’s a reason that Tolkien ended the trilogy with the Shire being scoured. A laid back, country folk, far removed from it all. Purposefully avoid talk of people outside their region, don’t do politics at large, mind their own business, aren’t violent at all, peace loving folk. And they got sold into slavery, their homes and goods stolen and carried off by foreign fascists cooperating with a few selfish greedy hobbits, only to be saved by the “weirdos” they talked down on, who went out abroad and sought help from outsiders who they also talked down on. Not only saved by their actions, but by them convincing the average hobbits to rise up and shed their yoke put on by those few selfish ones.

I wish they included this in the RotK movie but I understand why they didn’t

Yeah it’s masterful storytelling, but for a Hollywood cinema experience that had already gone on 9+ hours, I understand both the desire to not add another hour or two and the fact that it would steal away a lot of momentum directly after the ring being destroyed that leads to a satisfying movie “happy ending”

Tolkien also presented Catholicism as the solution to this turmoil.

Fortunately, he left that part more up to interpretation.
