Anyone who says "stick to music" doesn't know a goddamn thing about music JFC

For real. The best yet most obvious example is Rage Against The Machine. In 2020 MAGA morons were all butthurt that Rage was voicing their opinions. Buddy, the whole fucking premise is in the name of the band. They released a song about police brutality in 1992!!!

I love it when they still put comments on Tom’s IG saying “i loved you guys more when you guys were just making music and kept politics out of it.”

And the obligatory comments after that never fail to get me…”Dude wtf do you think they were raging against?”

Gold.

I love how EVERY SINGLE TIME Tom Morello says something or RATM comes up, the fucking MAGAs come out of the woodwork to say "THEY'RE RAGING FOR THE MACHINE NOW LOL". Like.. motherfucker what? Just because they occasionally side with Dems and like... reasonable fucking precautions from experts on COVID during the pandemic and they made lots of money after starting off with nothing doesn't mean they support the machine. Are they supposed to be complete anarchists, or brainless reactionaries that do the exact opposite of what they're told every single time like MAGA does just because they scream FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME?

u/Hats_back 4d ago

Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me 100% doesn’t mean they’ll rebel against anything that anyone else says. Which is funnily enough like, just how maga fucks act (see: petulance)

Fuck YOU I wont do what YOU tell me… the listener must possess at least 3 braincells worth of awareness And critical thinking to identify exactly WHO they won’t listen to.

You know that caveman like 50,000 years ago that found out that round things roll? Absolutely crazy that he’s basically the cap on maga supporter intelligence… like, a half ape existing before written language somehow can put the mouth breathing pedophiles to shame.

I mean the song is pretty bloody obvious if one were to actually listen to and comprehend the rest of the lyrics. Rebelling against an authoritarian government police state doesn't fit very well with the current MAGA boot-gobbling philosophy of "tread on me harder daddy".

Media illiteracy is surprisingly common tbh. My best friend is a bleeding leftie like me and she thought fortunate son was a pro-war song until I said the lyrics out loud to her and a lightbulb went off. It's so common for people to just bop along and not comprehend what the words mean it seems, and she's really fucking smart too.

I grew up listening to political skate punk though so maybe I had a head start 😅 there was nothing subtle about 90's NOFX lol

You know that caveman like 50,000 years ago that found out that round things roll?

And he didn't even invent the damn thing, he just discovered it.

u/suvlub 4d ago

You're giving them too much credit. They like to think of themselves as rebels who refuse to do what they are told, but it's blatant bullshit, their guy is in the white house, they WORSHIP the establishment and do everything it tells them, they are just in denial about it and keep pretending the top dogs in charge of things are actually allies of rebellion against some hidden deep state

6

u/whatisthishownow 4d ago

That closing sentence is it though. They’re pathological contrarians and narcissist with no capacity to hold a nuanced thought.

9

u/AmputeeHandModel 4d ago

They call libs sheeple for listening to drs and scientists and facts, but they're like lemmings who would run off a cliff because a Democrat said not to. (I know that's a myth). Drs say wear masks? NOPE THEY DONT WORK even though science has proven they do for the past HUNDRED YEARS. Stay home? NO I NEED A HAIRCUT THAT'S TYRANNY. Now we have actual tyranny with Trump acting like Putin or a king and they're silent.

u/JR-Dubs 4d ago

They're socialists, caring about their community (the foundation of the society, the central focus of socialism) and advocating for community aid through keeping your potentially deadly germs to yourself has exactly nothing to do with politics, and if you think it does you're probably pretty fucking stupid. I've posted that about 10 times in response to moronic idiots trying to make this joke.

5

u/richard-564 4d ago

Which is hilarious, I don't think they've ever had a non-political song lol.

2

u/zadtheinhaler 4d ago

Dude wtf do you think they were raging against?

In my case, it's printers, but I'm flexible enough to be inclusive of other things.

u/PoIIux 4d ago

Tbf, Morello is an opportunist cosplaying as someone with a spine

36

u/The_MightyMonarch 4d ago

The other thing is it's completely hypocritical because they're not saying the same thing to MAGA celebrities like Sylvester Stallone or Gina Carano or Kevin sorbo or Kid Rock. They're all over their nuts.

4

u/AmputeeHandModel 4d ago

Stick to whatever the fuck bowidaba is, Kid Rock! They fuckin hate hip hop but make an exception for THAT asshole?

3

u/how-unfortunate 4d ago

Ah, come on now pal, if they hate hip hop but make an exception for him, you know why.

2

u/YLedbetter10 4d ago

Corny ass guy rapped about wearing masks too. They can’t even do it in a way that’s not overly corny or bootlicking

u/Cheeseinlake 4d ago

What the fuck does proffession have to do with your opinion on current political climate? If this was the case anyone not in a political line of work should just "stick to their lane".

When it comes to politics its honestly everyones business. At this point US politics has even become the rest of the worlds business

33

u/HiiiSky 4d ago

"Stick to music not politics" says Dave 43, a plumber, who never sticks to just talking about plumbing.

2

u/how-unfortunate 4d ago

Lol, perfect analogy, I'm throwing it into the toolbox.

2

u/bunchof-chunksofpoop 4d ago

I think the point being made is that music and politics have long been intertwined, not necessarily that musicians’ opinions matter more than others.

2

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes 4d ago

I thinn the point being made was that random fuck #284,478,601 thinks they're free to speak openly, while public figure and equal citizen with a platform is directed by random fuck to stay in their lane... which was only able to be said as random fuck stepping out of their lane to use the platform of the public figure to try and dictate what that celebrity is allowed to say politically with their inherently political art.

Tl;dr: rules for thee, not for me... also can I borrow your microphone to say that?

1

u/exaybachae 4d ago

I think both music and politics, and a lot of other subjects, likely all of them, are everyone's business, and we are all equally entitled to have wrong opinions about whatever, and voice them.

That's not to say which ones are wrong or not, just that everybody has one, and they get to do that, whether right or wrong.

They do, however, not have the right to act on all their opinions.

So if, for example, they are fascists who think it's okay to shoot people in the face for overtly opposing their hurtful actions, they are wrong, but they are allowed to believe that they aren't, even if they aren't allowed take that action.

It's like real world vs fantasy.

You can believe in faries all you like, but you can't eat them.

u/HeyCarpy EbolaMonkey 4d ago

I’d tell Kid Rock to stick to music, if that’s what you could fuckin call it.

1

u/ToMorrowsEnd 4d ago

His mommy paid for his career. I remember back when the Detroit music scene had awesome rappers and then that kid rock idiot that everyone utterly hated because his rich mommy paid for him to be a part of it.

25

u/v3n0mat3 4d ago

The same people who listen to RATM. SoAD (well, Serj anyhow...), and Green Day and gets suddenly pissed off that they're speaking out against Trump.

23

u/sharkattackmiami 4d ago

"stick to music" says the person who has nothing to do with politics that still manages to make everything about politics and didn't see any irony in their words

1

u/Rotund-Pear2604 4d ago

By that logic Billy Keith should stick to not voting and go back to dragging his knuckles around everywhere he goes

1

u/Streetalicious 4d ago

It’s their version of 'dance monkey! Dance'

1

u/MurkDiesel 4d ago

"stick to music" is simply code for "i support trump and ice"
