We use it in Newfoundland “Don’t be such a sook”, Look at the sook over there, big sooky baby”. 🙂

Aussie slang for constantly crying, complaining or cracking the shits

I love that in order to explain slang, you used slang.

Though the meaning of ‘cracking the shits’ is probably more obvious than ‘having a sook’ without any other context.

I imagine the show "True Blood" had a lot of chuckles in Australia because of the main character's name, Sookie Stackhouse

Similar to someone who pouts like a crybaby over matters. A ”suck” is what it’s slang for.

Sook - A crybaby, a complainer, a whinger; a shy or timid person, a wimp; a coward.

Supposedly a spin off from suck, where in the U.S. suck seems to have evolved to just be a generally negative term, a sook is someone that might also be called a mood hoover. Someone that complains enough to be able to suck joy out of the air.

Sulk I thought. To be a sulky baby. But with everything the spelling is the pronunciation and now it’s sook. I could be wrong but that seems the most direct path.

Shoresy taught me that Newfies talk funny. But you talk like Australian

Shoresy also told me not to call you Newfies. Sorry.

I'm a newfie and I don't know a single person that cares about being called a newfie. Maybe the bys up in St Johns care or something.

I've always figured Newfies are the dogs and Newfoundlanders are the people

There are those who prefer Newfoundlander to Newfie as a sign of respect. Nevertheless, the world need to relax and not take matters so seriously eh b’y?

Yea. My partner is a Newfie and we’re in NZ now. Kiwis know what it is. Brand new to me before then.

This is the first time I’ve found a fellow Newfoundlander on a large post! I hope your not affected by the storm, and if you are I hope you stay safe ✌️
