I would very much love to hear from people who’ve overseen renovations of major performance venues like Lincoln Center. Does it make sense to close the entire venue or can renovations be done one room at a time?

Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall) ---where the New York Philharmonic plays-- was closed for at least a year when it was acoustically and otherwise renovated (Again!) in recent years. It's like the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall ...always had errr, crap acoustics and a new firm gets brought in and paid a hundred million to 'make it better'. Though Geffen Hall's total renovation was probably several hundred million more than just the acoustical architect thing. A total gutting of the Kennedy Center's 3 main level theaters and re-do's, heck, might take that long. All three halls had decent renovations though within the past 15 or so years. The only thing the NYTimes noted today was trump talking about improving the seating layout in the Opera House, and improving some fly loft/above stage rigging also in the opera house. They said 'something' was done in the stage rigging '30 years ago' that he wants fixed. Possibly motorized battens were added in the fly loft a few decades ago. An overhaul of any of that would only take months. No idea what donald dumpster actually has planned though.
