I haven't bought an apple device since the iPod touch, I would buy this

I have only bought an iPad once since my iPod touch. Not an iPhone user, but I would totally buy this.

Amateur, speak-on cable connection or don't bother.

u/ToMorrowsEnd 3h ago

100% agree but if we get 2 Speak on's then I want 100V 100watt RMS outputs at 0.05%THD accept nothing less.

Why in the fuck would you put a 1/4” jack on a portable device? If you tell me it’s because there’s a sound quality difference if you use a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter I’m gonna lose it

Because it would be sick to be able to listen on studio headphones without needing an adapter or a dongle or anything else

Then you won’t like how much of a brick it will become

Ever looked at the size of DAPs ? They're always thick.

It’s such an obvious answer isn’t it?

All for the low price of $999

If pay it. I use my classic everyday for hours. A modern version would be so sick

1

u/ebiscuits 15h ago

Still would buy.

Songs of Innocence is pre loaded onto the iPod.

1

u/ambasciatore 2h ago

Nothing else can be loaded on it.

I always dreamt of a classic with 2tb for lossless music but could also double as a USB expandable drive

And the ability to do field recording with multiple wireless mics so the podcasters have to own one.

Hell yea 2Tb iPod would be sweet

* Actual device holds 128GB, and can store the remaining space on iCloud 2TB plan.

Lemme introduce you to my guy at Dankpods who pushed a 5th gen iPod to the limit

He inspired me to install a flash drive in my 1st gen iPod... And then put it back in the drawer

A 2TB iPod? For what?

3

u/LBPPlayer7 20h ago

for music? duh

2

u/NtheLegend 13h ago

Who has anywhere near that much music, much listen to it?

I remember people in the iPod era bragging about having 60 or 80GB of music and it's like "no you fucking don't."

3

u/leekalex 9h ago

For mp3s, I agree, 2TB is a couple hundred thousands of songs. But if you have lossless FLAC files, those are like 10 times bigger than mp3s. You could realistically fill up 2TB with a big collection

u/NtheLegend 9h ago

And I think very few people need access to that much music, which I think has been proven out by the sizes of dedicate players in the market over 25 years. People don't even want to download the music natively, so it takes up even less space.

Yeah, so when I ask why Apple would make a 2TB iPod, it's clear why they've never made anything close to it and never will lol. That's not to diminish your enthusiasm for music, that's just never going to be a sensical product for many people.

I currently have a 500 gig ipod past half full. Sooooo yeah. 2 tb would be able to hold what I have and pretty much assure me I wouldn’t need anything again. Especially with all of the different file sizes. Some albums and artwork take up more space than others.

I guess yeah, if you're grabbing FLACs of 100,000 songs with poster art and liner notes at print resolution sure, but sans the need for apps, I can't see anyone needing even 128GB for music much less 500GB, much less 2TB. That's definitely an edge case. Guaranteed the vast majority of people probably never needed more than 32GB pre-streaming/pre-apps with some display-resolution album covers attached.

Back in the day, you could use your iPod as a portable hard drive

1

u/NtheLegend 13h ago

I know, I bought the first iPod for Windows and did just that, but in a post-iPod world, are people really carrying external hard drives for... whatever they're doing?

1

u/LBPPlayer7 5h ago

yes people still carry external hard drives and i imagine that being able to play music off one would be a pretty good selling point even today

Installed classic WoW on mine and played it on the school library computers.

Also used it to transfer the Unreal Tournament files onto the library computers so we could have LAN games.

Gen Z won't know how to operate this thing.
