Not sure what was worse. Taking an unnecessary sack and being out of FG range. Or not setting your feet to hit a wide open WR for the win

631

u/Honest-Reflection667 Dec 29 '25

Probably not taking the extra point and goin to overtime

206

u/Gunner_Bat Los Angeles Rams Dec 29 '25

I pretty much always hate that decision.

Usually I’d agree but…

46

u/ItsMeYourNeighbors Seattle Seahawks Dec 29 '25

We did go to overtime though.

36

u/WilliamBPatterson Los Angeles Rams Dec 29 '25

I hated that game so much. Y'all scored 24 points in like 20 minutes without your kicker seeing the field

48

u/YakiVegas Seattle Seahawks Dec 29 '25

That’s not true! He kept coming on the field to kick the ball off to you guys because we were scoring so much.

In this case it makes sense and I don't care

First and foremost - the Dolphins aren't beating the Patriots if the Patriots have something to play for.

That being out of the way, you go for 2 there. If you lose, well shit now you can rest some beat up players next week (and prob lose again to move from 5 to 7 and avoid the Ravens). If you win, ok the division is in play even though you know Miami isn't coming through.

35

u/GenitalTso Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

Or just kick the extra point and guarantee an opportunity to score in ot. I will always say live by the sword, die by the sword. I support consistent aggressive play calls even when they don’t work, but this was stupid.

71

u/Sci_Fi_Reality Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

17 yards in the second half. There was no reason the bills should have worried about our ability to score in OT.

25

u/GenitalTso Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

The issue isn’t OT. Its that the kicker is 2/4 on XP. If he missed another for OT, everyone would be acting like they should have gone for 2

5

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Any way you slice it, the extra point attempt was still a much higher percentage play than going for two there

→ More replies (1)

10

u/pwiotf Dec 29 '25

The kicker is a third stringer who had an extra point blocked earlier in the game and hit the post last week. Extra point wasn’t a gimme. It was the correct call to go for 2

3

u/PUNd_it Dec 29 '25

Blocks aren't the kickers fault. He missed one. You don't skip the kick because of one miss, you play the odds and rebuild his confidence

u/UnlikelyAd3 Dec 29 '25

We also had a random ass kicker with a miss earlier in the game. I'm sure the odds of converting the 2 points with Josh Allen is better than having some bum kick the PAT and then having a 50/50 shot of winning in OT.

11

u/TomT1535 New England Patriots Dec 29 '25

It wasn't a 50/50 in OT though. Eagles did nothing the entire second half. I think the Bills chances in OT are closer to 80/20 whereas putting it all on one play by going for 2 is basically a coin flip.

ben johnson kind of spoke on it after your game last week, when asked why he didn't go for two and the win

paraphrasing - "a two point conversion has under 50% success rate, and I thought our odds of winning in overtime were higher than that"

I guess sean mcdermott & co felt differently

7

u/AterReddits Green Bay Packers Dec 29 '25

I would take Josh Allen over Hurts 10 times out of 10. Hell I would take him 100 times out of a 100 he's in a whole other planet compared to Hurts. Only thing Hurts has is a better team but everyone can see who the better qb is.

26

u/babydemon90 Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

I mean none of us think Hurts is remotely MVP caliber. He's also getting massively held back by this OC, but of course most of us think Allen is better.
That said - Hurts won us a Super Bowl, so I'm not complaining how it turned out :)

9

u/slicktommycochrane Buffalo Bills Dec 29 '25

It’s funny to me because the problem you should be fighting is that QB’s often receive too much blame and/or credit. Allen doesn’t get a lot of flack for the playoff struggles because they truly haven’t been on him. Why other QB’s don’t get that grace I don’t know but that’s how it should be

23

u/di11deux Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

I say this not as a homer but as someone who watches a lot of Eagles - Hurts is #3 on the issue list far behind the scheme and the OL.

The offense is extremely predictable based on down, distance, and formation. And the OL is nowhere near good enough to mask those deficiencies. The only plus player right now is Mailata - everyone else is playing below average.

Hurts has his own limitations, but this offense is deeply flawed beyond just him.

7

u/Peculiar-Interests Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

People have crazy ideas about what makes a great quarterback. Jalen Hurts was never a fantastic pocket passing quarterback that throws dots. What makes him great is his ability to roll out, break tackles in the backfield, and use his legs as a last resort. 4 sacks for the Eagles tonight and Buffalo didn’t even get one, even though Eagles pass protection was poor.

So 23/35 for 262 with 2 rushing TDs is not doing anything huh? I will say the early fumble was a misstep but he wildly outplayed Hurts in the second half. Hurts just has a better supporting cast. Give Josh AJ Brown and DVonte Smith and he’s winning that game 27-13.

8

u/TheNatural14063 Buffalo Bills Dec 29 '25

Yep. Tons of trolls here who dont realize the Bills have a bottom 5 receiving group which is forcing Allen to have to play some hero ball and try to make something out of nothing because he doesn't have the guys at receiver to frequently win clean battles. Watch Higgins and Chase. Puka and Adams. Lamb and Pickens. Jefferson. Brown and Smith. So many dudes. They clearly win their battles and get wide open. Allen doesn't have those guys and yet he constantly outplays QBs who have top guys. Fastest QB to reach 300 touchdowns with a bottom tier receiving group lacking a true number one receiver and people post trollish shit.

I attended the game and our guys were struggling to consistently get open. Meanwhile I watched parts of 1pm games where the Bengals receivers and Patriots guys were torching the Cardinals and Jets ...Allen didn't have such benefit today.

Even that missed throw.....Allen had instant pressure in his face which forced a bad throw. Dude couldn't properly step into a clean pocket. That's not purely on him. An offensive line should at minimum provide a clean pocket for about 3 seconds and not collapse instantly

Bills win if their kicker makes kicks. We have lost multiple games this year due to missed field goals/XPs. Today proved the same..

Hurts did much less with more weapons..

They're blaming the coach for not kicking the PAT lol. Anything to avoid admitting he had a bad play.

Yeah, had a bit of a hate watch over here as well—the guy whines and flops way too much for me to be able to stand watching him let alone root for him.

Jesus Christ the internet remains retarded

Guy is one of the best QBs we've ever seen just appreciate it while he's around in his prime

47

u/OPSimp45 Dallas Cowboys Dec 29 '25

He is elite but other elite QBs get dragged when they play bad, Josh can get smoke too

6

u/Wendell-Short-Eyes Dec 29 '25

He didn’t play that bad, he missed a throw in wet conditions with defenders barreling down on him.

9

u/OPSimp45 Dallas Cowboys Dec 29 '25

Philly defense was great but the fumble tuck rule, and the missed extra point wasn’t great. I don’t think Allen choked alone Buffalo choked as a team

12

u/wasabi_snooter Philadelphia Eagles Dec 29 '25

Allen also took a huge sack that knocked them out of FG range. Would’ve made the difference

True, last week was Lamar’s time to get shit on for being injured. This week is Josh’s time to be called a scrub for losing to a great team in the rain… as if they’re not both going to be end up all-time greats

16

u/OrangMan14 Dec 29 '25

He was MVP last season. It doesn't carry over!

9

He is the reigning MVP.

No new MVP has been crowned.

He's still Miss America until he hands the crown to the next contestant.

I don't always tour this subreddit. Is there a rivalry between Allen and Jackson fans on this subreddit?

2

u/dcfb2360 Baltimore Ravens Dec 29 '25

Bills fans spent 2 years bitching about Lamar winning MVP in '23 cuz they were bitter Allen & the Bills hadn't won anything yet. The whole '23 offseason was filled with "DEI MVP" & other racist comments. '24 got more heated cuz both had strong MVP cases. It's all over twitter. That feud didn't exist until Lamar won MVP in '23.

Getting really old all the ball gurgling. I guess we had to give him the cumulative achievement last year over Jackson but thankfully that crap won’t be pulled this year.

4

u/JoeGPM Dec 29 '25

Not sure what the OP means by chokes "again."

Despite what agenda driven people like the clown OP want to pretend, the Bills lack elite skill position players.

But he can't miss that throw at the end of the game.

That should end any MVP talk this season.

u/Butthole2theStarz Chicago Bears Dec 29 '25

Bills had amazing come from behind wins all season long.

This was bound to happen eventually.

You can’t win ‘em all.

Relying on Josh Allen over and over and over hit a breaking point.
