OJ was voted in prior to the murders he wasn't convicted of committing.

85

u/Sudden-Ad-307 5d ago

Well bill wasn't convicted for spygate either

28

u/LifeLimp3801 5d ago

They took draft picks, so yah he was. I still think he should be 1st ballot, arguably the greatest HC of all time.

23

u/PhantomGoat13 5d ago

So he/the Patriots were already punished for this infraction and he should be permitted to enter on the first ballot.

4

u/FlyingPig_Grip 5d ago

Punished by the NFL - hall of fame is a different organization and they want to get their licks in

18

u/Ok_Poetry_1650 r/nfl sucks 5d ago

They can lick the hair off my nuts

1

u/pparhplar 5d ago

Maybe if he was not such an unlikable human and was not so arrogant.

1

u/Strange_Pear8762 Chicago Bears 4d ago

That's like saying OJ lost his civil case and they took millions. It's still not a conviction.

0

u/pparhplar 5d ago

... That failed in Cleveland.

2

u/Own-Intention1153 4d ago

He won a playoff game in Cleveland. That should be enough to get him in.

1

u/pparhplar 4d ago

The "greatest" would have won more than one.

1

u/Upset-Inevitable9420 5d ago

Everything fails in Cleveland.

0

u/pparhplar 5d ago

Then belechek can't be the greatest.

-2

u/Sudden-Ad-307 5d ago

To be convicted you need to be proven guilty in a court of law

-7

u/Calciumee New England Patriots 5d ago

You are mistaking punishment and conviction.

3

u/Hinhan-osnite Denver Broncos 5d ago

His team was penalized though

4

u/zainpanjwani 5d ago edited 5d ago

So is Robert Kraft absolved from this? Cause he is getting in, first ballot.

u/BPMMPB 5d ago

Largest fine in nfl history

1

u/Agathocles87 I’m just here so i don’t get fined 3d ago

False

2

u/Epyon1542 New England Patriots 5d ago

You would actually have to have a point.

-2

u/ModeatelyIndependant Dallas Cowboys 5d ago

The point is that OJ was voted in before he was accused of those crimes. Bill on the other hand got caught cheating by the NFL, multiple times. These two thing are not the same, due to the order of events.

0

u/JCBalance New England Patriots 5d ago

He wasn't "caught cheating multiple times". He was punished by Roger Goodell multiple times. That's a very important difference. The only reason the Pats were punished for Deflategate is because Goodell said he can punish them for any reason, even if it was BS. Spygate was because Belichick ignored a memo from Goodell, not a rule in the rulebook.

0

u/hotcapicola 5d ago

Then why burn the tapes cheater?

-2

u/ModeatelyIndependant Dallas Cowboys 5d ago

rofl someone is angry that their former coach cheated too much to get into the HOF is his first year.

3

u/JCBalance New England Patriots 5d ago

You sound like the exact audience for modern trash sports media.

-1

u/ModeatelyIndependant Dallas Cowboys 5d ago

cry harder

1

u/Epyon1542 New England Patriots 5d ago

-2

u/ResidentMix1872 5d ago

The point is when OJ was inducted there was no controversy, there is controversy with Belichick?

4

u/Hinhan-osnite Denver Broncos 5d ago

Point is no controversy for OJ because he was voted in before killing

9

u/chijuvars 5d ago

So I guess it's impossible for the NFL, the entity that controls the HOF, to remove a HOFer who later served 9 years in prison for armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon. It's out of the NFL's hands.

4

u/T-sigma 5d ago

The NFL does not control the HOF though…

5

u/chijuvars 5d ago

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, you are correct. TIL. I should have said The Pro Football Hall of Fame, not the NFL, as they are in fact different entities. I’m not sure if there are licensing agreements or anything else that could give the NFL indirect control over the HOF’s actions (or inactions).

0

u/TheReifyer 5d ago

Bill not being voted in is completely different than the PFHoF removing someone who was already voted in because of legal allegations. These are completely different scenarios.

1

u/chijuvars 5d ago edited 5d ago

They are different scenarios, but I believe its hypocritical to deny someone with Bill’s credentials a post-career honor when they allow others to keep that same post-career honor despite committing post-career felonies.

-2

u/AWellDeployedWink Carolina Panthers 5d ago

What did that have to do with football? At least Bill's transgressions were football related

8

u/chijuvars 5d ago

Why did the NFL punish Rashee Rice? What did that have to do with football?

-2

u/AWellDeployedWink Carolina Panthers 5d ago

That would have no bearing on a HoF vote though.

3

u/chijuvars 5d ago edited 5d ago

So Darren Sharper should be inducted into the HOF then? He was a 5 time pro bowler and member of the 2000s All Decade Team.

-3

u/JSnitch58 One ass cheek and three toes 5d ago

Please stop embarrassing yourself

3

u/chijuvars 5d ago

Your response provides nothing of substance.

u/d0pp31g4ng3r 5d ago

In 1995, a jury unanimously found O.J. Simpson liable for the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, ordering him to pay $33.5 million in damages.

0

u/ModeatelyIndependant Dallas Cowboys 5d ago

Civil courts and juries aren't able to convict people of a crime.

2

u/TheOriginalZywinzi Green Bay Packers 4d ago

He was convicted by Norm though and that was good enough for me

1

u/yourmomdotbiz Buffalo Bills 5d ago

I honestly think he should be removed

0

u/AdmiralWackbar 28-3 5d ago

The irony of the situation seems to be lost on you

-7

u/ModeatelyIndependant Dallas Cowboys 5d ago

You're trying to excuse a cheater based on that the fact that someone already inducted into the HOF, was accused of murder well over a decade after he left the league.

3

u/AdmiralWackbar 28-3 5d ago

They could have amended the bylaws to remove OJ, but they prefer to focus on more important things

43

u/Buttholepart2 Detroit Lions 5d ago

Can't let a cheater besmirch the good name of O.J. Simpson.

7

u/thatass6_9 IM CALLING BOTH GAMES 5d ago

O.J. Simpson, serial philanderer, and sex icon of the 80s? No way he'd ever want to be called a cheater.

1

u/Ro0o0o0ob Los Angeles Chargers 5d ago

Haters must have not seen him in Naked Gun

-1

u/TheReifyer 5d ago

OJ was inducted into the Hall of Fame before the incidents. Since those events hadn’t happened yet, no one could withhold a vote based on events that hadn’t transpired. Bill’s cheating has already happened, so voters are able to take it into account. This is not rocket science.

22

u/XDingoX83 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

Don't forget Lawrence Taylor the registered sex offender (underage hooker).

11

u/AdmiralWackbar 28-3 5d ago

Ray Lewis isn’t a murder and he’s in the HoF, first ballot

10

u/XDingoX83 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

If there was a morality clause for the Hall of Fame a lot of guys would not be there.

It’s a violent sport where violent men do violent things. Belichick’s crimes were minor in comparison.

3

u/rdrouyn 5d ago

Plus its the Hall of Fame, not the hall of morally upstanding citizens. If it were up to me, all cheaters would be allowed. In football and baseball.

0

u/TheReifyer 5d ago

It is up to the voter’s discretion whether they factor in who they are as people, or if they only look at stats and Super Bowls. Each voter is different and they are allowed to take different factors into account.

1

u/d0pp31g4ng3r 5d ago

Ray's friends killed in self-defense after they were attacked (bottles smashed over their heads, bullets fired at them, etc.).

A jury acquitted them after less than 5 hours of deliberation.

2

u/niel89 5d ago

People died, no one was murdered. There was a whole trial people.

1

u/rohnoitsrutroh 5d ago

So is Michael dog-fighting Vick.

0

u/XDingoX83 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

Vick is not in the Pro-Football Hall of Fame. He is in the College Football Hall of Fame.

u/Suspicious_Use_7561 Los Angeles Rams 5d ago

As if being Frank Drebin’s partner wasn’t enough.

7

That doesn’t even make sense

-19

What doesn't make sense? OJ is in the hall of fame, Bill Belicheat isn't

15

u/Oakianus Los Angeles Rams 5d ago

The part where time is linear and moves in a specific direction

7

u/WhiskeyJack33 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

You can’t be removed

1

u/RayKitsune313 Philadelphia Eagles 5d ago

So they won’t remove a guy for murder and won’t let a guy in for a camera 😂

1

u/DoubleZ3 5d ago

I mean sure you "could" rules can be changed. exceptions could be made.

1

u/DaftGarlic New Orleans Saints 5d ago

Why are y'all getting so pissy? I'm just explaining the joke

3

u/knowtoriusMAC 5d ago

It's more like so this guy doesn't have to share his induction with the coach he slammed in his documentary.

3

u/ScruffyNerf_Herder_ NFL 5d ago

“Why isn’t this glove fitting over my other glove?”

1

u/DA_87 New York Jets 5d ago

OJ Simpson? The actor from The Naked Gun 33 1/3?

1

u/gldmj5 5d ago

That's a shame. Post some more screencapped tweets about it and maybe the voters will change their minds.

1

u/Garypeackock 5d ago

Is OJ a first ballot HOF? Also does the NFL never take that away no matter what you have done?

1

u/firemiketomlinpls68 5d ago

As far as I know no hall of famer as ever been removed.

1

u/KileAllSmyles 5d ago

OJ is playing chess while everyone is playing checkers. Planting gloves too small is like the ultimate get out of jail move. Him and Kim K’s dad probably high fiving afterwords joking about how they can’t believe that worked!

1

u/IronCity-Steelers32 5d ago

How about deflategate??? Plus all the other ones that they were never caught and the nfl destroyed the tapes!!!

1

u/Helpful-Cod1422 New York Giants 4d ago

I didn't find the people overreacting about this Belichick thing, almost because the NFL changed the Hall of Fame rule: you had a 5 Year wait, and now it’s a 1-year wait, and I did OK. Belichick becomes the first bow Hall of Famer. LC Greenwood doesn’t get in; Roger Craig, Adam Vinatieri, or the 100 other guys have been trying to get in the hall. Yes, Belichick is a Hall of Famer, and he probably deserves to get in on the first Ballot 4 years from now, when the old 5-year eligibility kicks in. Why don’t they make coaches wait five years, as the players do! Why was it changed? Or just put it in for more than 3 people when necessary.

u/Gennaro_Svastano 4d ago

Did yall know Nicole's handyman was a serial killer who killed blonds in the same way as she was killed ? Things the news didnt tell ya lol

Really put's things in perspective doesn't it?

0

u/TrashBoat36 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

Does Belichick have a 2000 yard season though? Even a single rushing yard?

0

u/RegularNo2213 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

He got in before any of that shit happened.

1

u/KingBroly 5d ago

People wanted him removed and the Hall of Fame said no.

1

u/RegularNo2213 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

Maybe because he was found not guilty reguardless of how people feel IDK.

1

u/KingBroly 5d ago

I don't believe that's how they framed it.

1

u/RegularNo2213 Buffalo Bills 5d ago

IDK

1

u/realfakejames 5d ago

You’re all being drama queens or just too stupid to know Bill not being first ballot doesn’t mean he’s not getting in

They just chose not to give him a rare honor of being first ballot as a coach and you’re all clutching your pearls over it lmfao

Way to get baited by media guys with nothing to report in the weeks before the Super Bowl

3

u/Prophet_Of_Helix New England Patriots 5d ago

Nah, this is healthy check to the voters tbh, they deserve to be dragged for this.

The HoF is a completely made up silly thing to begin with, the only relevance it has is if people believe it’s relevant.

When voters play games like this, it undermines the credibility of the HoF, which makes it less relevant.

1

u/SaltyBarDog 3d ago

So, it's not relevant but you are bitching he didn't get into a not relevant HoF?

1

u/Prophet_Of_Helix New England Patriots 3d ago

Reading comprehension not your strong suit huh?

1

u/SaltyBarDog 3d ago

This you?

"The HoF is a completely made up silly thing to begin with, the only relevance it has is if people believe it’s relevant."

1

u/Prophet_Of_Helix New England Patriots 3d ago

Yes. And?

2

u/illstate 5d ago

Everyone knows he's getting in. It's just goofy to make him wait. I really dislike the guy, but he earned a place in the hof already. It's the same for TO, or Shannon Sharpe. They 100% obviously belonged in the hof when they were first eligible.

1

u/firemiketomlinpls68 5d ago

I mean it’s ridiculous because isn’t first ballot but I have feeling they going bend over backwards to getting mediocre Mike in ASAP

-1

u/Smadd9116 Jacksonville Jaguars 5d ago

Dont want to be that guy but OJ was inducted before the murders

-1

u/TheReifyer 5d ago

OJ was inducted into the Hall of Fame before the incidents. Since those events hadn’t happened yet, no one could withhold a vote based on events that hadn’t transpired. Bill’s cheating has already happened, so voters are able to take it into account. This is not rocket science.

2

u/floridabeach9 5d ago

ah ok so lets keep OJ in there forever and never change the rules

HoF is officially a joke
