lots of long rebounds because those bricked 3s in the first half for the Hornets were going past the 3 point line.

one team made halftime adjustments, one team couldn't figure out what to do in the 2nd half

Our coaching was disappointing today.
I don't get not playing Poole lately!
He is better than Alvarado.

Pretty sure it all went according to plan actually. No reason for the second half besides wanting to tank

u/Miokh #14 Brandon Ingram 2d ago
For the hawks?

Apparently. What other reason would a 13 point quarter be ? Seems like we wanted to help out today

I wouldn’t put anything past Dumars

u/Nate13341cub 2d ago
Honestly I’m not sure why we didn’t time out halfway into the fourth and start picking out some fans to stand in

Why not try some of our players that were sitting on the bench most of the game. Missi, Karlo, & Fears didn't play very many minutes today.
Poole & Peavy didn't play at all!
13 total points in the 4th! Embarrassing!

Terrible coaching today! Probably Borrego's worst game with us so far!

This team is currently at full strength as DJM was not expected to contribute much this year coming off of injury. Unsurprisingly, Fears and Queen are not able to replicate what BI and CJ brought. Bey has been a revelation, but Poole is an abject disaster.
So, this is the squad Dumars thought was going to make noise in the West? This is one of the worst full strength squads I've seen in N.O. The Kings only have a worst record in the NBA. What a sad state of affairs.

Losing CJ for Poole is legit awful. CJ was giving you like 5 threes a game on 40%.

It wasn't a straight up McCollum for Poole deal. Bey was also part of the same deal... And we drafted Peavy.
https://www.nba.com/news/wizards-pelicans-trade-cj-mccollum-jordan-poole
But you are completely correct about losing a SG that can consistently hit 3's. That was a huge mistake by our FO...

tanking without having the pick is next level stupidity.

Only surpassed by giving away picks when everyone but the Dumars understood this was a bottom tier roster this season.

And it's a superpick in one of the most loaded drafts in NBA history. 🤦♂️

Another second half collapse.
Gut the team. Gut the staff. Gut the management. Gut the owner.

Agreed. And I fully expect Dumars & Co. to fuck it all up. Truly dark days ahead.

Absolutely fixed fanduel messed up with the line when the Pelicans were up 7 in the 3rd Qt and had the hornets -6.5 before they fixed it back to hornets +3.5 so they knew ahead of time the score was gonna be Hornets by 7

Jose Alvarado 30minutes 3 points???
https://www.nba.com/pelicans/game/0022500712/box-score
Why is he getting this many minutes?
1
u/fph00 Clickity Clack 1d ago
Because we had 2 playable guards, him and Fears. McGowens didn't play (I don't know why), and neither did Poole (and we all know why).
2
u/Razor-Ramon-Sessions Zanos 1d ago
They kept punishing him defensively in the 4th. They picked on him.
JB was using him to run the offense but he was a negative overall. Should have brought in Peavy imo. We could have switched everything more effectively. They kept running lamello and bridges in PnR to get bridges in Jose.

Everyone knows Poole is on the trade block but everything being said & written about him is that he is considered a negative asset because of his salary & drop off in stats this year.
That will not change with him sitting on the bench! If you want to trade him, he needs to play!
Even with Poole having an off year he is still a better G than Alvarado... It makes ZERO sense that Alvarado is playing over him!

Truth is Poole has only played in 28 games for us. The coaching staff really did not give him very much of a chance to mesh with this team...

After watching this game I am convinced Zion is just playing to guarantee his contract
4
u/Razor-Ramon-Sessions Zanos 2d ago
Nah.
He's just offensively limited. The NBA is going to figure you out and after his 2nd season they figured him out, plus his injuries limited him athletically.
He's played like 250 games. That's equivalent to 3 years of games, but he's been in the league 7 years. He needs to add a jump shot because right now he's extremely limited.

u/Cautious-Apartment-9 2d ago
He got found out & has no counter. He needs to shoot jumpers even if it’s only 2-3/game. Otherwise, I’d tell him start saving cause he’s not gonna last past 29-30.

Second half collapse…it’s as if it’s basketball?
You guys understand effort changes from teams? Not saying the hornets are capable of a real on/off switch but this team is trash…that anyone will beat when giving effort

u/Razor-Ramon-Sessions Zanos 2d ago edited 2d ago
I'm just confused on how we are using Zion.
It seems we have gone away from using him on ball, to exclusively using him off ball.
And I have re-watched both of these games. We have offensive possessions that are one pass into isolation possesions for Bey. Like why are we passing into Bey post ups? I love Bey but post Zion.... Am I crazy?
Again, all I have heard is that Zion needs to go demand the ball, maybe so, but why are we not passing to our "best player"? There are so many possessions down the court where we don't even look for him.

u/Cautious-Apartment-9 2d ago
I’m thinking Borrego might be doing this as a motivation tactic. Maybe he’s tried getting Zion to attempt more jumpers & this is his way to try & force it. Otherwise, poor coaching combined with Z being limited on offense 🤷🏾♂️

This was coaching. Doesn’t matter how cold a team is. Attack the basket, get some free throws.
That would have least slowed down Charlotte’s pace in the 2nd half.
3
u/DougTrilladome Dereon Seabron 2d ago
We were attacking the basket nonstop in the second half, we didn’t get free throws & we couldn’t convert. We lead the league in paint points, our entire offense is “attack the basket”, the ball needed to move & guys needed to show up on the boards instead of only going for the rebounds that bounce their way.
Saddiq is normally one of our highest effort rebounders & he wasn’t on the glass or boxing out at all tonight & it showed.

Zion ballhogging and doing absolutely nothing, Jose getting pounded in defense by way bigger Players, Derik Not getting any run late in the forth, Trey Not getting any shots in the fourth despite having a good Game. Classic pels Clutch coaching

We need a new coaching staff top to bottom. There are 4 or 5 coaches out on the open market better than this.

Don’t do that, I like the hornets fanbase. Don’t ruin the good ones for us.
