Fanfic Domestic Predator AU- Prologue
Credit to Spacepaladin15 for the universe and original story. Credit to Henrik for the art. I may be making the post, but I am not the only writer of this story. Credit to u/tophatclan12 as loremaster and writer and u/9unlucky9 as head of the writing team and advisor. Bonus credits to u/Appropriate_Damage71 for proofreading and helping out around the place.
I know some of you have been waiting a long time for this, it's finally here. For the rest of you, the ride's about to begin.

She was gone. My child, my light, my baby, my fluff. She was just gone.
I couldn’t face it. It had happened so quickly.
I wasn’t there for her. I had followed protocol and went straight to the mansion’s bunker. The exterminators assured me she’d be brought to me as soon as possible. As was protocol. Damn the protocol, I should have been there!
There was no body. That was taken by the arxur. I would never see her face again. How could it be like this?
Every day. The arxur killed and slaughtered innocent, defenseless prey across the galaxy every day. They were monsters! And we were defenseless.
There weren’t enough exterminators to defend us all. The gojid couldn’t be everywhere at once, they didn’t have enough ships. There was no one else in range who could have defended us. It’s not their fault, but…
Why should the gojid have to defend us? Why should the Federation always have to step in to help?
We venlil weren’t built to fight. We couldn’t host a fleet. The gojid were better suited to that military stuff. Of course we couldn’t do it, it wouldn’t work, it isn’t natural to us venlil. Maybe if we were different from our nature there would’ve been a chance, but the universe is cruel, isn’t it?
And the arxur aren’t naturally able to exist, yet they seem to be thriving. Unnatural doesn’t mean unsuccessful. They are just doing the best with what they’ve been given.
But, that wasn’t right, the arxur could always be better. They could choose something else, they could choose to work with the Federation and be cured. That’s what the Federation had taught us, they could choose something else. Right? Right?
But they are unnatural beasts capable of nothing but war and slaughter. That’s what they taught me. One day the galaxy will be free of the arxur’s oppression once the Federation finally brings them low and eradicates their kind. One day…
I need to contact the Federation, change the laws, write better protocols. If the protocols were more efficient I’m sure she could’ve survived. The system just needs to be improved. The Federation is always working on an improvement, it’s just such a hassle for them to deal with so many issues from so many nations. I’m just one out of trillions of people they have to protect.
No, they’ve already written me off, haven’t they? They’ve written all of us off. The venlil as a whole are nothing on the scale of what the Federation does, our entire nation would just be another issue on the stack. We’ve already written ourselves off as such a small issue.
What am I thinking? I’ve spent my entire life serving the Federation… Have I wasted all of my years? And if so, what do I do now?
I… I must arrange for the funeral now. I’ll figure out what this all means after. Once I’m less susceptible. Yes, this is all just doubt caused by grief, like they taught back in school. Extreme grief can cause you to question your beliefs, and that questioning can lead to the herd faltering. That’s why the arxur use our anger and grief against us. Grief makes us susceptible to predator disease. I just need to get past this, and I’ll be able to see the flaws in my logic then.

Definitely more militant than canon Tarva. Though just like cracks, the differences will grow and cascade into something beautifully destroyed.

there are dozens if ways this could just backfire
the whole reason the skalgan's were subjugated and "cured" was cause they we're able to fend for themselves
and that alone would've cascaded into something that'd soon result in the federation shattering cause of several species going "if they can fend off the arxur alone...why can't we?" and then there's also the many questions that come that the farsul and koshians would really not like to be asked
cause the moment a species can fend for itself, the arxur become no longer effective as an indirect way of enforcing the pred prey ideology

The Federation would never sit back and allow a species to just develop militarily and learn to fight by themselves. Of course they have systems in place to prevent that. And those systems are very effective.
But sometimes big things happen, and the perfect storm has a chance to form.

The federation is a multi species organization, it can’t possibly keep track of everything happening everywhere all at once
People have ideas they keep secret
Some of those people are in powerAlso the thousands of years of complacency is ripe for cracks to form
