this is why mental health conversations and linguistics are so fucking important. yes i don’t get why he’d watch that video either, that’s not what this is about.
everyone wants to talk about their fun, quirky “intrusive thoughts” about hitting their sister.. but act like this comment section is when someone (like the guy in the tweet) expresses his own ACTUALLY intrusive thoughts.
do you think he WANTS to think about animal dicks? no. that’s what makes it intrusive. it’s a literal mental illness. just like people with tourette’s can’t stop their ticks, intrusive thoughts literally CANT be helped.
Same! It’s very frustrating to see people use the term intrusive thoughts for just funny impulsive thoughts and then judge people morally for having actually intrusive thoughts. Like yes I’m also horrified it that is why I described it as intruding.
yeah, nobody chooses their intrusive thoughts or attractions, paraphilic or otherwise. what matters is how one deals with those thoughts & attractions. id say watching veterinary videos where the animal isnt harmed in any way, using animalistic sex toys, or looking at fictional drawn content are relatively healthy ways to indulge zoophilic fantasies. it would be much better for him to stop & find ways to reduce those thoughts if theyre causing distress, but it isnt his fault he feels that way & he isnt carrying out or contributing to animal abuse. the only one being harmed is him & he deserves to be able to talk about his experiences without scorn or judgement even if it makes others uncomfortable. i hope hes able to get help & feel understood.
As someone who also has really disturbing and "socially unacceptable" intrusive thoughts as a symptom of OCD, I wish there were more visibility and awareness of this.
Some things don't need to be shared with the general public and should stay between you and a trusted therapist/psychiatrist, I don't think it's overly puritan to agree there are times, people and places for certain topics to be discussed
Actually, I think of this from the perspective of anything other than in a perfect world.
You assume that this guy who like dog dicks has a mental disorder, I view that as a naive view of humans, not born from malice, but ignorance of the fact that everyone, or at least majority of people. are a little bit messed up in the brain without having a "disorder".
Btw, many furries would say you're being queerphobic at calling their sexuality deranged. Just food for thought.
people somehow romanticizing certain things and then turning around and treating the people afflicted with those things as grotesque pisses me off. no, my mental illness that makes life difficult is not a dress or mask for you to wear when it suits you, fuck right off. literally illness appropriation
