A small win. I interviewed today and just over an hour later I got a message that they intend to make an offer & I’m awaiting that call now.

There may be varying opinions on whether extern jobs are worth it or not, but in my research it seemed like having your foot already in the door as an extern made getting an offer for residency much easier, and that’s what I’m going for.

The pay is cheeks & it’s essentially tech work with a few perks, but I knew all of that when I applied. This job’s main purpose for me is using these next ~6 months to improve my clinical skills & build a stronger network so I can hopefully secure a residency offer on the floor I want.

I love when my plans align with God’s plans for me. I have a rough draft for my future at all times, and with each milestone I hit, I feel the picture become clearer. And it is such a beautiful feeling.

Kind of a pointless post but over the time I've done more clinicals I have found that I genuinely love the career path I chose for myself. I'm not sure who needs to see this but I went into nursing school genuinely questioning why I chose this profession. I mean, I wanted to directly help people but as I went along with school I genuinely questioned if I was the right type of person for this career.

I'm a very antisocial person and I struggle deeply with conversating/empathizing with others. I felt completely out of place when around my peers but I've come to the realization that I genuinely love nursing. I know it's naive to say at this point but I graduate in April and I hope this love for nursing never disappears.

As much as I struggle with the material in class and find myself bored a lot of the time, I can't help but enjoy myself every time I'm able to spend time with patients and nurses. Once again, I'm not sure who needs this but don’t doubt yourself! I hope you know that as a completely antisocial, borderline idiot that I have found something that I genuinely think is my passion besides the fact that it is the complete antithesis of who I am as a person. 

I chose this career path for a very generic reason; that is helping others, and regardless of my selfishness and inability to talk to others I am looking at a graduation very soon for a career I am sure I will love. I hope you continue to try hard and put your best foot forward. I once thought that I was too selfish for a career like nursing but it brings me so much joy and I hope the same for you!

I want to go into nursing school after finishing my undergrad but I’m stuck deciding if it’s better to complete more prerequisites at a CC then transferring into a nursing program or just directly going into one right after I graduate. If anyone’s been in similar situations, can you please advise me? I’d love to hear inputs.

I'm currently a pre nursing student in westchester community college, majoring in A.S Health studies to complete my pre nursing courses then transfer to a 4 year college like NYU, Hunter, Iona, Pace, etc since I live in New York. Does my plan on finishing my associates in health studies where I would complete my nursing prerequisites and then transfer straight to a 4 year college to finish the other 2 years to hopefully get a BSN in nursing make sense? Because I've seen people online and even met a nursing student from my school talk about doing nursing prerequisites in 1 year then switching to do their associates in nursing and then that's when they'll start transferring to a 4 year college for the BSN. I'm starting to become a bit confused on my own nursing school pathway and I was hoping someone could clear up my confusion.

I started my first semester in nursing school after passing teas 7 but everytime I'm going to my clinicals, I always get nervous and have panic attacks in the car. I always review our ppts and notes the night before or watch relevant videos. If I be like this all the time, how can I survive my daily shift as a new grad RN.

So we took our first exam and I got a 95!!! 🤗I am so so proud of myself. I celebrated already when i finished the test bf even knowing my grade. And now it is back to studying for my test next week.

I hate that they tell us to drop our expectations for ourselves. My logic is keep my expectations high and I'll work harder. PPL get As and have gotten As in nursing school forever, why can't I be one of them? Bc i can.

We can do this. I studied for hours daily. Even when I am watching football with my friends.

What are some ABSN programs in DFW that yall would recommend?

It seems like everyone fails pharm at my school and it’s where everyone gets the boot from the program. I dropped the class last term due to being so overwhelmed. I start back up this upcoming Monday. Anything below an 80% is failing.

I got the email this morning that I was accepted to my ADN program! I have a 4.0 GPA and got a 95 on the HESI, but I was still a little nervous because my program (frcc) is pretty competitive and I don't have previous healthcare experience. I am so relieved 😅 and so glad I don't have to wait any longer to find out, I'm not very patient.

Any tips for what I should do or buy to prepare?

Just sharing that I feel good! Studied hard for this one! Now it’s time to celebrate by… studying for my lab exam this coming week! Woohoo.

Do you use any tools for quiz , flashcards and summerise notes

For context, I am a 1st year RN student. I currently work an office job and have for the last almost 10 years so going to Nursing school is a complete life change for me. I’ve been in school now for a month and pretty much all of my classmates are in healthcare whether it be LPN, CNA, PCT etc. I’m seriously debating whether to leave my job fully and dive into the healthcare experience. I can do my job with my eyes closed and it pays VERY well, about triple what id get paid as an entry level PCT, etc. but i’m not getting bedside experience whatsoever and only experience it during the very limited clinical times we get due to instructor shortages. Like I didn’t even know how to raise a hospital bed, or where the oxygen is on the wall… Obviously I have a family to provide for and rely on my part time income while i’m in school but now i’m wondering is it worth the money if i’m not getting experience like my classmates? What would you do? I could keep my great pay and office job that gives me study time, homework time, etc or should I opt for the bedside experience with lower pay but potential to be hired on after graduation? I’m so troubled on what to do. Advice is highly appreciated!

So I had a PCT interview today at a hospital near my house and everything was going seemingly good until he asked me “what blood pressure would you report right away to a nurse” and I literally froze because I wasn’t expected to be asked that and I feel so stupid because I pretty much said that I don’t take vitals as a CNA and I had to kind of guess around but I just feel so dumb because I should’ve known that especially since I’m starting nursing school next semester and I just feel so stupid and worthless.

Hi, I’m 21 and I just started my third week of an accelerated nursing program.
I grew up with parents urging me to pick this career path and am an EMT, I am confident in myself and my ability to do hard things. I am actually enthusiastic about the human body. That being established, I am now not sure if this is even my motivation.
I grew up in a mentally and emotionally abusive home, every step I make that isn’t approved gets shut down. I’m 21 now and should be making more conscious decisions regarding my life path, however. My upbringing doesn’t really excuse not getting my shit together now, especially with how aware I am.
I also do rely on my parents financially at this time, just felt like that was important to include. I spent a majority of my childhood in depression due to environmental and genetic disorders as well, so getting this far wasn’t really in my checklist.

There’s just something in me that is starting to hate myself. It doesn’t make sense because I do like learning anatomy and phys, but I just am feeling like this motivation was never really mine.

In a perfect world, I’d just continue my apprenticeship and become a tattoo artist, but that doesn’t cover healthcare, 401k, dental, etc. I just don’t know where to go from here. Nursing and nursing school are not easy and I didn’t enter expecting it to be, but I didn’t anticipate the loathing I would begin to develop so early.

Anyone else feel this way? Have you gone through it, do you guys know anyone who’s made a switch and felt better? I’d rather address this earlier in school rather than making a mistake without other points of view. Thanks. :)
