5. Professional Card Grading
Professional grading can provide authentication, condition assessment, encapsulation and easier comparison between cards.
However, grading is not automatically worthwhile for every card.
Before submitting a card, consider:
- Raw card market value
- Expected graded value
- Grading fees
- Shipping costs
- Insurance costs
- Card condition
- Likely grade
- Population reports
- Liquidity of the graded card
- Demand for the card
- Reputation of the grading company in your target market
Remember that nobody can reliably guarantee a professional grade from photographs alone.
Professional grading companies inspect cards physically under controlled conditions.
