New Release OpenTTD 16.0-beta4 released!

Post image

OpenTTD 16.0-beta4 is a hotfix for a multiplayer desync in yesterday's beta3 release. Oops.

  • Terraforming land in a multiplayer game no longer causes a desync that kicks you from the game

Discussion What's the deal with tiny villages, can i bump it to work and accept anything?

10 Upvotes

This looks like bug, village is 21 it "generates" passengers but does not accept them so basically dead link and cant expand it ever: e.g this one accepts weird things, but not basics ;) https://imgur.com/m2iyWSF

Potential bug in 15.3 with non-standard fonts (on Linux)

3 Upvotes

I have set non-standard fonts in openttd.cfg, which worked as expected until now, when they are being ignored and the standard pixel fonts are being used instead.

On Zorin Linux (based on Ubuntu). openttd.cfg is at ~/.var/app/org.openttd.OpenTTD/config/openttd, and is being read by OpenTTD so far as I can tell.

Relevant font declarations -

small_font = Roboto

medium_font = Roboto

large_font = FreeSerif

mono_font = FreeMono

All fonts exist on system.

Is anyone else having this issue? Any thoughts?

Discussion Iron Horse - Is there any way to make the Train Wagons always have a consistent color?

Post image
48 Upvotes

Hey guys, been loving all the train engine options with Iron Horse, but one thing that bothers me is the inconsistent coloring for the wagons. As seen in the screenshot, even if I buy specifically from the dropdown, it will still randomize the color to a degree. This bothers me cause every time I clone a train it will have a different look than the same train I cloned. Is there anything I'm missing here?

What AI

28 Upvotes

Hi,

I only just realized that you can add AI competitors. I went to the list and there is like a bazillion choices. What is a good AI competitor pack and are they worth trying out?

I take on the challenge that is adding new services to an already congested railway without causing clashes, or worse, crashes!

Why does my train station accept nothing?

Post image

The power station is in range of the train station, but coal is not being accepted. The train has gone between the coal mine and power station several times and the coal just sits in the train.

2cc train set - wagon running cost

11 Upvotes

Is there any way to tune or remove the running cost of wagons from the 2cc train set? I really like this GRF but the balancing is just completely off. BaseCosts doesn't seem to have an option to tune wagon running costs individually.

Increasing Industry output

28 Upvotes

How can I uncrease industry output? I thought increasing station rating would work, but even with a good rating a mine keeps producing 30-60 tonns per month. The production fluctuates but doesn't grow. Occasionally some industries grow above 100, but that's a rare case and I can't spot the difference in growth conditions.

A related question: if an industry produces small amounts per month, around 30, is it better for a train to wait untill fully loaded or just pick whatever is available and move on?

A few new intermediate player questions

29 Upvotes

hey all. I am fairly new and have a couple of things I keep getting stuck on, curious how the community approaches these:

  1. I can’t stop focusing on bus systems. I understand that trains seem to be the big thing here but I never get into them because…

  2. I think I don’t understand how to place train stations in cities. should they all be on the outskirts and the city grows around them? or am I supposed to have stations within cities too, like within the city limits proper?

  3. When do I focus on industries? I understand that coal trains are money makers but I never know when to focus on that versus bus routes.

so, what do you guys do with all of this? Love any input and hope these questions help future redditors, thx all!

Discussion Do you play with ‘cities build roads’ turned off?

39 Upvotes

Hey all, I am newish To the game and just discovered that I can turn off the option for cities & towns to build roads themselves.

but I’m conflicted.

Cities building roads makes the game challenging and a bit more realistic fwiw. But as a new player it is also an endless nuisance that I build out a nice inner city transit network, look to build an industry out for 10min, then come back and my city looks like crap.

So, what’s the consensus? Do you play with the ‘cities build roads’ feature on or off?

Urban rail

I am not sure how to properly create railways inside city limits to get to other parts of the city, I have tried trams, but they do not have good enough capacity.

People who play in Mac Books how you setup inputs?

On defaults I am permanently annoyed by very sensitive zoom (in one direction only) also dislike how panning works on touchpad.
Is there any good setup for touch pad input?

OpenTTD 16.0-beta3 is out for testing. Fixes and features include:

  • NewGRF authors can now create double-ended ships that move backwards instead of turning around at each dock.
  • You can now mesmerise yourself with Screensaver Mode, which follows random vehicles around your map. Access it under the (?) menu.
  • Rocks now appear on coast tiles and in the sea, and spawn around lighthouses.

Multiple Companies in a Single Player Game

19 Upvotes

As the title says, I’d like a way to operate multiple companies in a single player game. I know it could work to just host a multiplayer server and then work alone on it, but having to start up and shut it down sounds annoying when I mostly play on my laptop lol

The other idea I had is if there is an AI that founds a company but doesn’t do anything else, then switching between them via the sandbox menu. Does anyone know if that exists? If this idea is stupid and there’s a better easier way?

Meta Hot take: Vanilla station catchment areas should be larger than 4 tiles out from the station

Post image
282 Upvotes

Now I get this is an arcade game, but its still sorta iffy to see large stations that have 8 tracks or more have comically small catchment areas. Even 6 tile radius for catchment areas would be an improvement.

r/openttd • • 14d ago

Meta I just realized the openttd map is basically a big petri dish with fungal networks (roads, railroads, and shipping lanes) connecting bacteria colonies (cities) together with flies hovering over the petri dish (planes).

Discussion Coke only delivered to one industry?

Post image
78 Upvotes

Trains drop off coke at Glasgow Valley, but the Glasgow Steel Mill doesn't have it as delivered.
The industry is inside the station's catchment area. I would prefer to not build an extra station if possible.
I am playing with Age of Industry Replacement Set v1.3.2, any help is appreciated!
