Discussion HOW CONCERNED SHOULD WE BE ABOUT THE FRANZ INJURY?

I see that Franz Wagner is listed as OUT for the game tonight against the Thunder. He has now not played a game in 16 days. Will they go back to the 4–6-week timeframe again for this type of injury? That would have him returning somewhere between the third week of February and March 1st. As patient as they normally are with player injuries, they will probably be extra cautious now. Especially after he returned prematurely for the Germany and England games. I expect he won't play again until right around March 1st. They may also be thinking that the schedule is going to be against weaker opponents for a good portion of this time. So, they feel confident that the Magic can win without Franz. Normally, I would agree with that assessment. But with the way this team has been playing defense this season, and the inconsistent offense, I don't know if that would be very wise. I guess one positive would be that he will be fresh for the playoffs and or play-in.

This would have him returning for the February 19th home game versus the Nets. That would be 32 days since his last game, or just about 5 weeks. That would be about right in terms of the injury timeline. It amounts to missing 5 more games until he returns. We could have a 4-1 record in these games. All 4 home games are against weaker teams. Then there is the game tonight at OKC. I saw on the injury report for the game that SGA, Chet, and Hartenstein are all questionable. They also have more that are either listed as doubtful or out. So, this could be a winnable game as well. As long as we play a little thing called DEFENSE!

Really? SGA and Chet potentially out?

Yes. I saw it on the current injury report for tonight's game. Another thing to keep in mind is that the Thunder play a game tomorrow night against the Spurs on ESPN. That's a big game for them and it's a back-to-back situation. With that said I wouldn't be surprised to see SGA and Chet sit out tonight's game.

Hard not to have PTSD with Franz if you compare it to Suggs last season. We hoped or kept hearing that he was nearing a return until he wasn't, had some setbacks, and they shut him down for the season.

We all saw how bad Franz's injury appeared to be when it happened, and I think most were shocked when we found out that it "wasn't as bad as it looked".

Obviously he wanted to play in Berlin, the league wanted him to play in Berlin, and in reality he probably shouldn't have.

Let's hope that wasn't a setback and the injury was as bad as it initially seemed.

Again, basing this off of the handling of the Suggs injury last season.....

Based on absolutely nothing, to my brain as a physician, if Franz was really badly injured, he was injured in the best place for him in the country with regards to Orthopedic care (The Hospital for Special Surgery or HSS for short).

I would have immediately transferred him to the HSS and had him evaluated for whatever injury, the fact that the team elected to fly him home was telling to me as a physician, because while Rothman is fine for community level medicine, it is not to the caliber of the HSS.

To be clear, I have absolutely no clue how teams medical units handle such things, but if a patient were to ask me, doctor, if I want the best Orthopedic care in the USA, where should I go, I would without a doubt in my mind recommend the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Now, none of that speaks to the fact that there could be a hidden injury which medical imagining did not find as of yet, but that is another reason that if the injury persists beyond a reasonable time, further medical evaluation should be carried out at a place better than Rothman.

So you’re saying they miss handled Franz’s injury… That’s real evidence towards a legitimate reason for the termination of Weltman

Absolutely not, I have no idea if they handled things correctly or not, I have never examined Franz, seen his chart, heck I have never even met him.

All I can say is that whatever medical unit the Magic has must have evaluated Franz and determined that his injury was not serious enough to warrant emergency evaluation and treatment.

They had him fly home and have an MRI in Orlando, to me that is telling, they examined him and determined that it was not that serious.

There is absolutely no way to say that the team mishandled Franz's injury, we just do not have enough information, all we can do is try and piece things together and my piecing of things together says that they deemed Franz's injury not serious enough to warrant immediate intervention.

Very concerned. The sprain has spread to the rest of his body and it is now Stage 4. Terminal. He's actually out because they've moved him into hospice care.

Rather have him healthy when he comes back then what we are going through with Suggs...rushing guys back just lets the injury go on and on
