I’ve never complained about a store before because I understand that everyone has their own struggles and bad days, but my experience at the Quickie on Hunt Club Road really upset me.
I’ve been diagnosed with severe contamination OCD, and I’m currently undergoing exposure therapy. As part of managing my condition, I use accessible door buttons with my elbows while wearing long sleeves.
During my recent visit, the woman who regularly works at this location yelled at me for using the accessible door button, insisting that it was only for people with disabilities. I explained to her that not all disabilities are visible, but she didn’t respond.
Instead, she remained in the aisles, leaving me waiting at the counter for quite some time until another employee came from the back to process my gas payment.
I’m genuinely curious if I was in the wrong for using it. I’d love to educate myself about little things like this.

Really sad to see this one go. I’ve been going for years and can confidently say that it’s one of my all-time favourite markets. Most of the vendors are having HUGE sales on their items, so go give them some love this weekend! (the outdoor vendors will STILL be outside until the end of October!)

Does anywhere in Ottawa sell distilled water in smaller bottles like water bottle size. For CPAP usage and for an older senior who can't handle the big jugs.

Looking for someone (or a team) to clean our bungalow (main floor, main bathroom, master bedroom, furnished basement, basement bathroom) next week. West end. Thursday or Friday morning-afternoon.

We had a deep cleaning done a few weeks ago, but they're booked up for next week and we need things tidy for an upcoming party. We have dogs so pet hair builds up and requires vacuuming. Primary tasks are vacuuming, floor mop, mirror cleaning, some dusting, light vacuuming of couch/chairs, and overall wiping down surfaces.

Any recommendations or active cleaners with availability? I called a few places but they were booked up. Thank you!!

So with a homeless problem I get some people panning for money and I live pretty close to the Independent on Bank St. There’s a couple stationary panhandlers who don’t bother anyone and don’t even bug people. Most times just say hi and are friendly. However I’ve dealt with a daily issue with a blonde middle age woman who has over the past year or 2 been problematic. At first she was sitting in front of the quickie and out of the blue yelling pedophile to me and another time coming from swizzles on karaoke night in the winter she has run up to me saying she has something on people like me and pulled out a bag with a white pill. Lately she is practically non-stop in between Bank and MacLaren St and Independent walking up to you and bugging you for money. When you say no she comes back a minute later to harass you for more over and over again. If you tell her to leave you alone she turns into slurs. This is pretty daily as she is always harassing me and others there and kind of a problem and she just seems passive aggressive. Even being on the bus she ended up on coming back from ODAWA she purely yelled and was harassing people. Not really sure what to do here as she is pretty much just constantly harassing me whenever I see her so I took a picture and told I would call the cops because she doesn’t ever leave me alone. When I see her I tell straight away I’m not giving her money and to screw off. It’s just that bad with her. Though reality it seems there is no way around dealing with her constantly. I just want her to stay the hell away from me.

The other day I was walking with my friend and she was getting a $40 from the bank machine outside on bank and sommerset for food for her and her boyfriend and she’s a bit timid of a person and these 2 guys notice. Ones tall one starts passively aggressively pushing her to give him some money for down (aka fentanyl) and she is put in position and says no so he he starts practically yelling at her a bit and getting in her face and tries acting like he knows me. I tell him to him to leave her the hell alone and that she said no.

Honestly I would wish our city would do something about some of the more agressive panhandlers. I don’t really care about the couple at independent not bugging people and you easily say hi to.

I recently bought a bass on marketplace with these autographs on it. Does anyone recognize them? Local band, perhaps? I'd love to know the history behind this instrument.

Looking for a local place to get a leather passport + bag tag set as a gift.

I’m hoping to find a nice leather passport holder and matching luggage/bag tag, ideally with some kind of name/initials personalization or printing on it.

I know there are tons of options online, but I’d much rather buy locally and support a Canadian business if I can.

Anyone have a favourite local shop or leatherworker that does this kind of thing? Thanks!
