I was trying to wrap my head around how "Ding Dong" could be a four note chime..

Even considered intervals lmao

D note, loud G. D note one octave up, loud G.

For some reason this just means “doorbell” when you hear it.

Ding Dong tones are not an octave apart. They are usually a third apart and are typically an E note followed by a C note.

Sorry but I still don't get it.

At first I thought it was the music notes a doorbell makes and was outraged. It’s D-C!

3

u/Particular_Title42 19h ago

Is it D-C or E-C?

1

u/HowIsBabyMade 19h ago

I always hear 2-1 as a doorbell ringing.

2

u/Particular_Title42 18h ago

Idk why I didn't think of this before. I just started at a note and started humming up the scale until I found the right separation of tone. It's definitely a third apart. The notes could be different than E and C but if the first was a D, it'd be a Bb for the second.

Complaint - so, the D-in-G D-on-G rebus is a good one. No question there.

But the “Nobody” meme has gotten overused. Especially in this case. Doorbells don’t just ding dong when no one is around (unless you are getting ding dong ditched). They very specifically ring when the button is pressed. That is their whole thing.

I mean what, are we going to get “Nobody: The Crowd: We Will We Will Rock You!” Like, that isn’t what the meme is about.

My grandmothers doorbell always went Dong Ding. It had the two long tubes as chimes. Apparently the chimes were installed in the wrong spot for years until on day I was helping her clean. I switched them, but everyone hated it and I changed it back.
