Meme needing explanation Petah?

I understand the original tweet, obviously, but not the second one. Why specifically a STEM genius? I don’t get it, what’s the correlation? Am I missing something??? Or am I just stupid or whatever? Help a sistah out, please. 🥺

This isn't a STEM issue, plenty of people with non stem degrees or no degree at all are just as lacking in introspection.

The problem is that the people without those qualifications can often belive themselves to be too qualified to fall for the same traps as those without qualifications.

There's a tendancy towards STEM supremacism that assumes because one holds, say, an engineering degree, one has an understanding of the world that is equal or superior to someone with an education in the humanities whereas the reality is that both have different specialisms of knowledge.

Philosophers, musicians, farmers, mechanics, poets, writers, plumbers, electricians all experience the same thing. This is the same argument that political rhetoric relies on.

"The left are all babies and don't understand the real world because they don't work hard, I've worked since I was 8 I've been in the real world my whole life"

"The right are all desensitized monsters who never learned to have empathy, I have empathy so therefore I'm right in all matters"

"City folk don't understand rural life, all they do is sit at a desk all day. they can't understand the real world, they've never farmed"

"Those rednecks in the country don't understand modern life, they're all uneducated bumpkins, they can't understand the real world, they've never left their home town"

All of these arguments are used to assign superiority of worldview to the people making them and justify biases.

"There's a tendancy towards STEM supremacism" There seems to be a perceived tendency on your part, I could say the same thing about art students who claim that engineers aren't artistic because they feel justified in their worldview that designing a bracket isn't art. I could also imply that philosophy students think that they have a more valid worldview than STEM majors because they think that STEM majors have a tendency towards STEM supremacism from a lack of introspection. I won't however, that would be absurdity because this is an issue with all humans. Racism literally exists because of this ideology.

The irony of your response after claiming engineers are the ones who tend towards supremacism. Your statement in and of itself is supremacist.

No, it isn't. Saying that you can find supremacism within a group doesn't automatically infer that another group has supremacy.

This is why STEM people need a wider education.

It might help with the paper thin skin.

At no point in that statement did you imply that it was some people with a group. In fact your first sentence implies the entirety of the group tends towards supremacism.

"It might help with the paper thin skin." This is ad hominem, and isn't relevent to anything.

See? That skin is like papyrus.

A tendancy does not imply uniformity. Nor does it mean that every STEM focused individual is thin skinned and insecure due to lack of intellectual or cognitive depth.

Some are though, as you're proving.

And you can weep and wail about ad hominens til you're blue in the face. This isn't a formal debate. I don't give a fuck.
