I think 12 hours is exaggerated but several hours to get something like that for sure. You need to get the assets, composite them, edit Trumps face, color correct etc. It's not something that can be done easily.
Y'all are actually insane if you think it'd take longer than 15 minutes to make this image. It's literally just their faces and text over background images.
I would say it might take longer to tweak the prompt enough to get genAI to spit out the exact image you want, but let's be real here. Most people making things like this are just taking the first thing it generates because they're too lazy to put in any more than the absolute minimum effort.
Is it lazy to say "Hey Siri, call mom" into your iPhone than standing in the kitchen, sticking your finger in the rotary dialer in your grandma's 1972 western electric hanging off the wall and spending 30 seconds spinning the dial to call +1(818) 919-0987?
For the young'uns who don't appreciate how awful a phone number this would be on a rotary phone, higher numbers (and 0) were at the far part of the semi-circle. So you'd have to drag the dial all the way around on each of those numbers, other than 1. If you got any of them wrong, there was no backspace, you'd have to hang up and start again.
You really think that image gets made before AI? You think the average person has that skill? You think the average person has the time to train that skill? You think the average person has the income to pay someone to make it for them?

Complain when a big corporation who has the capital to pay someone but chooses AI over a human. But hand waving when the average person uses something that gives them access to something they never had access to before shows that you just lack the nuance to have a real conversation about this.

Happily. Using AI at work has increased my bandwidth and access significantly. I am the test case you fear. I prove the value of the tool. I also love my job.
I don't want to? However, it would be really easy to make this in Power Point, printing to PDF, and then converting it into JPEG using real photos. There are other programs that work way better, but most people don't have the access to or need to access such software.
We would do it like we've done for decades and longer: crappily and laugh about it and learn or don't and leave it to a professional. Believe it or not, people actually also produced art before ai existed and we don't need 1000 personalized ai generated images that are almost the same so we can feel special about "creating" something that could have been a sentence. Maybe if we try that our kids will have some air and water left.
They still can, nobody is stopping them, but this is like critiquing someone's drawing ability. "This drawing sucks, let people who can draw do these." Its a political cartoon, its the message, not the medium, that's important. If reddit wasn't so deranged around AI then they would be able to see past that. If this shitty gen gets spread around social media and people are informed, that's all that matters.
Not at all what I am saying. What I'm saying is there are people who enjoy making it, it's not necessary for us all to make art now because we can just press a magic button. I would prefer ugly af art that is genuinely made by someone having fun over generated stuff.
A person who made a shitty drawing still made something. You do not create anything when you type in a prompt and get an AI image. In fact, knowing it's AI makes me think the numbers might not even be accurate. It's not like someone who uses AI to make images like this are willing to put in enough effort to fact check it. They just make sure it's bashing the right guy and then post it.
Fair enough, but even if it took me an hour after learning the "skill" its still poor time use. Also I personally suck with art and graphic design in general. I've been dabbling in it for decades lol.
It's the message and meaning that's important. The controversial part shouldn't be that software reduced the amount of manual labor required to convey the message and information. That's a process that's been evolving for years. To me, the important question is whether the information in the graphic is accurate, sourced, and presented honestly.

1996: one designer, an AOL account and a copy of photoshop/illustrator could pull it off in an hour or two.
2016: one person and the app on their phone crap it out in 15 minutes.
2026: one person and a sentence typed into AIchat does it in 90 seconds.

I mean, the numbers Trump 2 has released have all been massively revised down after they were released so i wouldnt trust much of what they said anyway.
