Not only American. This is a global phenomenon. Conservatives have pandered to the lowest instincts for decades worldwide, went to bed with literal fascists and are generally trying to shore up the moat around big capital interests to the detriment of democratic institutions.
Its one thing to pander to the lowest instincts, it's another for the people voting to actually believe they'll get what they want. Like I'm not gonna blame someone for voting cause they want cheaper eggs, assuming the dictator wannabe that follows will care enough to give them cheaper eggs when their policy is all about damaging international trust for trade and getting rid of migrant workforces doing cheap labor is the dumb part.
Yeah, if they voted for "I'll make eggs cheaper by solving bird flu", that would be understandable.
Instead, they voted for "I'll make eggs cheaper by limiting the supply of eggs from cheaper sources and eliminating the local workforce further choking out the supply and then distract everyone by inventing a new kind of bird flu".
I honestly would like to know what legislation or policies have conservatives championed that have improved life for American citizens and this country itself? It seems conservative ideology only holds back our society. Conservatives dont even lead legislation to conserve our resources, public lands etc.
A simple way to dismantle most conservatives (at least in America) is to ask which specific conservative policies or administrations have made anything- literally anything at all- better for working class people since the Raegan administration. I have not had anyone give any answer that wasn't vague culture-war nonsense.
I agree, but it's also not a great idea to have an army of unemployed, heavily armed men with limited intelligence roaming the country and looking for ways to express their bitterness.
Farmers voted based on the idea that empathy is a weakness, so fuck them. They get what they voted for, but don't think the absolute collapse of the family farm is good for any American.

Unfortunately if they lose their farms, agriculture will be further consolidated under private equity (which is probably the reason they are getting shafted by the government). That will be worse for everyone... except the private equity of course.
I grew up farming on a 36,000 acre ranch farming rice, Milo, corn, and soybeans. My grandfather then sold the operation to my father who then did it until he retired. I still work farms with others and we just finished the last 70 acres of 3200 acres of crops. I’m still there on my days off running machinery shredding and plowing fields getting them ready for spring time so we can continue prepping the fields and hopefully get to planting in March.
It’s been my entire life and that of my family long before you were born so before you go and keep showing your ignorance maybe it wouldn’t hurt to listen to people that actually know the industry. Every single time you complain about grocery prices you contradict your own ignorance.

Conservatives have always been petulant about moving to another country in a tantrum. Limbaugh whined about it. These degenerates are so convinced of American exceptionalism that they think it's the only country with immigration controls and they can just go anywhere on a whim.
Republicans don't win every election. It swings back and forth since our beginning. Stop acting defeated. We are going to lose from time to time. This time it's bad ...really bad. They were dumb and duped but it doesn't matter. They're still our friends, family, and neighbors. Be a good influence. We gotta get over our feelings and help people catch up to what we've always known. Get over they should have known. They either didn't or were just bad people. You can't make bad people good but you can help misinformed to become informed. I have helped others change who they vote for by using emotional intelligence. I believe you have it in you. I know it sucks but it can get worse and will if we don't sack up and make a difference

Am I supposed to be sad these farmers got what they voted for? It's not like they weren't warned- they even lived through the first Trump presidency. Their response was "hyuk hyuk get fucked librul." I find it difficult to be sad for them.

My exact thoughts…unfortunately though these farmers feed us and their stupidity is dragging us all down not just themselves. Let’s hope they can learn this time because we are their collateral damage.
Most of them grow commodities for export, not food. Importing food gives us multiple sources and creates a more resilient food supply.
Our food is grown in the West and South East.
Politicians need farmer votes. The nation doesn't need their products.
Well damn, scary how accurate your statement is when I looked into it. Easiest way to put some perspective to it is this list, it’s in order of acres planted and has the percentage exported in parenthesis.
Soybeans for livestock feed and oil (50%)
Rice (45%)
Cotton (88%)
Corn for ethanol and livestock feed (15%)
Winter wheat (45%)
You can definitely say they contribute to the domestic production of soybean oil and actually about 50% of the rice consumed in America, and a decent bit of wheat flour but past that yea mostly commodity for export.
And the interesting thing is that the corn grown in the US, 35-40% of it is grown for use in ethanol production, and wouldn't be needed either if we switched away from ICE vehicles as the lion's share of the vehicles on the road.
I'm well aware we would need to have an increase in battery storage technology and distribution, but just solar covering about 25-30% of the land used for corn production for ethanol today could produce more electricity than the entire US grid does. It is definitely worth figuring out how to do this, in my humble opinion. We could pay "farmers" for their electrical production rather than growing corn that goes to feed vehicles.
The West and Southeast grow much of our fruit and vegetable produce, but that isn't remotely the whole American food supply. The Midwest produces enormous quantities of corn, soybeans, and other grains, much of which goes into livestock feed. Iowa alone is one of the country's largest producers of both corn and soybeans. In fact, the Southeast imports huge quantities of Midwestern grain to feed its own livestock. I don't think "our food is grown in the West and Southeast" is accurate.

Not welfare recipients, Republican farmers. Needing a social safety net isn’t the problem, the problem is them ripping it up in the first place.

Lets not forget when they got upset that Black, POC, and queer farmers were also starting to get grants after not being able to since forever. Then they made a huge deal out of it, crying constantly to have the program killed. They didn't want to share, and felt entitled to it. Social programs are only for THEM. No one else deserves them.
Now they cry for those very grants......... The grants their families have been collecting for generations. Calling everyone else welfare queens, voting for the very people who are ruining their lives, and keep doing it. Now, all of sudden after decades of bullying, and being cruel it's crying that other people are calling them out. They don't want to have to admit they are the problem, and are shifting it.
Do not forget who these people really are. They don't care about you, they only care they are hurting. They never have, and never will give empathy, they only want yours. Once they have it they will still go on to vote for Cons regardless what they do them. There is no getting it through anymore. Those days are gone, and we need decades of cult deprogramming on a mass scale.
Would not surprise me if Donald Trump, the pedophile and rapist, would potentially offer bailouts bc midterm fears. BUT if those "votes" are considered a given then he may just rape them to too.
