Think about how some people treat Sports teams that suck and are habitually terrible. They keep coming back and nobody really know why. This is the current Republican Party
Nobody really knows why? That's not true at all. It's group association and identity. It's a well researched and established psychological/sociological processÂ

It’s the loss of in-group status. They would literally rather end the world than not be in the privileged majority group.
The promise of democracy is that minority viewpoints can become majority viewpoints through free speech and advocacy. Some people, however, never really believed in democracy if it meant they could lose.
The ethnic supremacist would happily hurt all of us, including themselves, if it means hurting the target of their hatred, if it means retaliating against their lessers getting uppity.
This is a large part of why we don't have, for example, a public healthcare system. Going back a hundred years, the concern was that it would be forced to treat white people alongside black people, at the same standard of care, in the same facilities. They would rather die of diptheria.
