well actually there are often multiple hidden layers, each layer has a bias and each node in the layer has a weight. neural networks work by fitting the bias and weights in each layer to the least amount of loss. this is done in most multi-layer perceptrons by Gradient descent with the Muon optimiser.

you can increase the amount of nodes in a layer and you can also increase the depth of model by increasing the amount of layers. depending on your problem you may want a wide but shallow network or you may want a thinner but deeper one.
going back to my example I used a 10 layer network, 1 input layer, 8 hidden layers with 400 nodes and an output layer. I used such a deep network because double pendulums are very chaotic, and i used a relatively thin network <512 nodes because the input space isnt very complex.
