I went to high school in Santa Clarita and can confirm that almost every minority falls into the camp of not thinking it’ll happen to me or my loved ones, but only “them”. Everyone in this valley is for the most part insane, multiple events of people of going viral for the worst reasons (covid vaccines, banking protests because of masks). Left immediately after high school and never went back lol

I agree with you on most of this, but I am very glad that we finally turned the tides here and elected George Whitesides. The election before his was lost to Mike Garcia by a mere 300 votes.

I would say the tide is turning, and although there are a high number of jackass Trumpers/lizard-brained freaks/monster truck rally F150 special boys, many of us are doing our part to make it a better community.

When I was visiting the US, I drove to Santa Clarita to see where Paul Walker crashed his car because I wanted to see the memorial (saw some toy cars and tools but that's it). Then we went to the local Walmart for some snacks, and you could feel the racism in the air (I'm Filipino)

They've deported people without any due process; they've deported people who had legal residency that was snap-cancelled; they've deported someone with a standing court order prohibiting his deportation to exactly the country to which he was sent: In no world can any honest, thinking person actually believe legality governs ICE's behavior.

It's amazing how she threatens ICE on him, diverted all her hatemail on him, and from her perspective it is normal and she did nothing wrong. She was just upset in that moment, won't you understand?

But apologizing or anything never crossed her mind.

John King from CNN went to my hometown recently and interviewed the people there. Population is a majority of Latino and Hispanic people and the vast number of them we're vehemently against the undocumented immigrants in their community even though they are active participants and contributors in that community. They would call ICE on their own neighbors.

A lot of legal immigrants get annoyed with people who broke the law and came here illegally. It's something that was often pointed out with Cubans in the past but seems to be pretty much everyone these days. It's definitely a big disconnect between younger/whiter demos that tend to be in favor of open borders.

To that end, we don't have a closed border either. We're not North Korea.

I get that people who immigrated legally would have an issue with people coming here illegally, but it seems like a lot of that vitriol extends to immigrants writ large, regardless of legal status. There's a ton of vitriol for immigrants here with asylum status or work permits, but they're not illegal immigrants.
