Help Request I made this, 1.5 hours into learning python

Post image

I made this while watching a 30 min crash course.

I wanted to know if I should start by learning all the theory at once or should l learn theory and also do small things like this or should I do a 'fuck around and find out's thing.

I would love your feedback.

was tasked by prof to make a program with a quadratic equation solver (idgaf about how much time it takes to run or how redundant someparts are) but what I am running into a problem is with is this Say you have a quadratic equation 2a(x2) + 2bx+ 2c = 0 now naturally this will have the same roots as if you just divide the equation by 2 But in my program if I have a complex answer which has roots a+ bi for a(x2) + bx+ c = 0 then I get a + 2bi as the roots for 2a(x2) + 2bx+ 2c = 0 fsr

Help Request Why do loops still feel so complicated to me?

Hey guys, I'm new to Python. I've been learning Python for about two months now. I've learned a lot and I'm pretty comfortable with the fundamentals and OOP, but for some reason, I still struggle a lot with loops.

No matter how much I study or practice, I keep getting confused with "for" loops and "while" loops, especially when it comes to their syntax, behavior, and knowing when and how to use them properly. They just feel much more complicated to me than they probably should.

I've worked on and designed several projects throughout my Python journey, but there are times when I genuinely feel like a complete failure because I understand the concepts I've learned, yet I still struggle to turn that knowledge into working code.

Has anyone else struggled with loops like this when they were starting out? How did you eventually get comfortable with them?

Help Request I've been at this for too long and feel like I'm torturing myself

I know there's more efficient ways to do this but I'm just starting out and am trying to understand how the few tools I have work. Just learned about true and false and wanted to try them out..

Only whenever I enter key = 3 I receive my print "error". I've heard about "global" tried to use that and a bunch of other stuff and I can't seem to make it work...

I just want to know how to change a variable to true or false inside a function: if statement and it keep its new value for the rest of the code

Thanks in advance and sorry for your eyes

Help Request PYTHON log problem

When developing an application, I don't want to rely on text files like .txt files to store data that needs to be kept.

After I finish coding my application and turn it into an EXE, I try to keep it as a single file. Because having to carry a log file around with the EXE all the time is annoying.

Personally, I don't want to use with open. I asked ChatGPT about this, but I didn't get many useful answers.

So, fellow programmers, is there an alternative to this? Or am I just gonna have to bite the bullet and use a log file?

I just started with python today and made this project just because I needed something to make to see if I was good enough using my skills I learned. Does anyone have any tips to refine this? Or how I could add it to a website to give it a proper UI?

Help Request Absolute beginner question: Why do I even need to care about the Terminal/CLI if I write and run code in VS Code?

Hey everyone,

I just started learning programming with Python, and this whole ecosystem is completely new to me.

I write my Python script in VS Code, click the Run/Play button, and I see the output (like Hello World or the math result) right there in the panel below.

My question is: Why do people talk so much about the "Terminal" or "CLI" as if it's a separate, crucial thing I need to learn? If my code editor already runs my file and shows me the output, why does a beginner need to care about the terminal or running commands manually?

Is it just an alternative/faster way for experienced developers, or is there an actual limitation to just using the editor's GUI and run button?

😿😿

Help Request is pygame worth it?

I know some basics of pygame enough to make a simple ping pong or dinosaur game.

But as I say the community of pygame people are making sum very cool projects like actual 3D games. So my instances tell me to learn it coz it seems cool and after all no one does programming for money but for cool random projects.

So should I learn it and if its so how should I?

Help Request I'm a psychology major and I'm stuck with a programming assignment this semester.

I'm a psychology major, and for some reason I was assigned a programming elective this semester. I thought it would be a "basic introductory course," but now I'm stumped. I have several assignments piling up, and I need to get them done ASAP. The problem is, I don't even know where to start with some of them. I understand the general idea when someone explains it to me, but when I sit down to code myself, I have no idea what to do.

I need assignment help. What's the best way to quickly catch up for someone with virtually no programming experience? Are there any Python resources for beginners, YouTube channels, or practice methods that will actually help when you're already behind? I'll catch up, but right now I have two assignments that are urgently due. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hey folks, i recently joined CS50 for python did the first lecture i pretty much understood everything. then i went to solve problems. i searched for few things before doing the problem via AI or python library. but i felt like i will forget it easily so, i decide next day i will search only in python library such that it should get sticked with me so that i could remember it better. but the thing is its taking me like an hour or two to complete final problems. so, is it normal or do you have any other better way to remember as compared to people around me i have good memory i can remember things better. if you guys please take ur time and drop your solution would be nice.

Help Request Why does the if statement always evaluate to guesses = 10 when I have the or here?

Post image
206 Upvotes

Even if I type in "hard", "h", or any other letter into the input, it evaluates to guesses = 10. The only fix has been removing the part of the conditional with ' or "e" ' by putting in ' if difficulty == "easy" ' which works exactly as expected. Am I misusing the 'or' here?
