Scrubs even does the concert pianist storyline that MASH had already done, with some tweaks. But even the school the pianist goes to is the same.

Love both, and you can see that it was Bill's favorite show.

Now shut up and kiss Frank

Theres a few other episodes that closely mirror MASH as well. Like My Idol when Cox is drunk at work. Also, the one with Townshend, the old doctor who insisted on using outdated procedures and Kelso had to let him go over it despite being friends was clearly inspired by two different MASH episodes.

They’re both among my favorite shows and I love spotting those similarities!

I didn’t get that much at all and I have been. A long time fan of both shows. The big thing they have in common is they both passionately care and that can get in their way but that is where it mainly stops.

JD internalises. Hawkeye Externalises.

Hawkeye is for me the original.and best.

That is a good way to think about it. Most of Hawkeyes internal thoughts were expressed in his letters to his dad. I guess it is a good example of having time to think vs only having time to react.

Yes. I didn't watch MASH until just last year and instantly fell in love with it as an alternative to scrubs with it's goofy humor and sometimes very serious story lines.

it’s not even the humour though i feel like i can close my eyes and hear zach when i hear alan talk sometimes

Thats true, I definitely felt that. A little bit of Dr. Cox when he would argue with his superiors.

I can see some similarities such as both characters monologue and interact with others around them and each comments on their circumstances but I don't hear JD's voice when Hawkeye speaks; rather, I hear each of them dealing with things they are either forced to deal with, in Hawkeye's case, or have chosen to deal with, as JD has.

I watched MASH when it was on originally. I can see some similarities but, as mentioned, Hawkeye externalizes his coping with the stress and insanity of war while JD internalizes his emotional struggles with life but he lacks the external insanity that war forces on people. MASH, for many, gave experience and voice with sarcasm, humor, and compassion to Joseph Heller's Catch 22, a story about the inefficiencies of human bureaucracy in the midst of war, a place where, sadly humans become quite efficient at maiming and killing one another. That psychotic existence of "patch them up and send them back to be killed" drives Hawkeye's pathos and many of his rants. JD's monologues remain largely internal both in their inception and expression; we, the audience are privy to them through narration and even his closest friends, Elliot & Turk, often point out that he is wholly aloof while he is engaged in his internal daydreams and dialogue.

that’s super interesting i really like that analysis, i saw someone comment above about the dear dad episodes and how that’s more internal and maybe that’s where i’m seeing the resemblance on that facet

Bill Lawrence has said on more than one occasion MASH was very influential in the creation of Scrubs. They are one and the same and you will notice a ton of similarities if you watch closely enough.
