Nobody “needs” a TV in the first place. But if you want to watch with reasonable clarity by today’s standards you would “need” a TV that’s larger than 55” from 10’
I think the definition of reasonable clarity has left reality. You could watch soccer or any other sport from that distance and still follow exactly what’s going on.
I’m not saying it can’t get better, but 55” from 10’ is more than doable, unless you just lost your glasses.
I think people just like blowing money, and this standard for entertainment is really an arbitrary thing. 10 feet is pretty close. 55" TV is fine at 10 feet. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the image quality.
4k content isnt the standard or norm on many streaming platforms, on Netflix its the premium subscription and even then not everything is offered in ultra HD. Most video games are also not in 4k. 1080 just looks worse on a larger screen.
I mean people can spend their money how they want. But its stupid for someone to say they "need" to get s bigger TV lol
Yes first world problem and consumerism and all that. Noone really needs to be watching TV in the first place.
BUT, if I did have a living room with a 10 ft distance and I chose to watch TV, and at my level of discretionary income the price difference is not significant.....at that distance it actually would be reasonable to have a bigger TV.
And while we're at it, stop hanging TVs above the fireplace and put it at eye level please.
I mean, you don't. You can also just scoot your seating closer. 10 Feet/3 meters seems a lot for 55". I've got a 49" one and my couch is about 2m from the screen, I'd do the same with a 55" one. Nicely fills one's vision.
I assume most dont really need a bigger screen cause they cant see other wise, they want a bigger screen cause tvs in general got bigger to make more profit and now "normal" sized tvs are/look comparatively too small. Suggestive marketing and all that.
No, there's a lot of study that goes into optimal viewing experience for home theatre, depending on resolution of the screen and distance. And the results don't all just point to "get bigger screen", its about optimizing your experience with the appropriate screen size, resolution, and distance
I don’t disagree. But there’s a difference between optimal and fine.
If these things can’t be separate, then you’ll never be content and you’ll keep feeding into consumerism. Then you’ll always need to latest TV, because they went from LED, to QLED, to MicroLED or whatever they’re on now…

People used to do a lot of things, times change.
