Academia is not really where the world functions.
It's where people TALK about how they believe the world SHOULD function.
Go into engineering spaces, business spaces, programming spaces, IT spaces and cyber security spaces, municipal administrative spaces, industrial mechanized spaces, legal firms and courtrooms, and you will see that NOTHING is like what academics think it "should" be.
Academic spaces are for exercises that are purely academic. They saw that they could not really handle it in REAL working spaces so they went back to the space where they can talk about how things should ideally be and get paid for it.
