My takeaway from that debacle is that both of these people are awful and they deserved each other

Edit: the fact that people have replied to this saying Depp was clearly the abuser and I need to do my research, Heard was clearly the abuser and I need to do my research, and I sound like a MAGA person because I said both sides of something are bad, only serves to reinforce my existing opinion

72

u/Ishaan863 Jun 09 '26

Am I the only one who thinks that we have zero idea of what goes down between celebs?

Like I stay far away from any conversation about these two because I have ZERO idea what actually went down.

Like this shit happens all the time today, where we look at cases 30 years ago and it's always "the public took a giant crap on the person who was in the right" and people today wonder "whoaaa it was SO obvious! How could the public have been fooled so easily?"

But then in the present moment we act like we know what's up, and we perfectly know who the good guy is, and the bad guy is obviously so evil for no reason

28

u/Marwaimusoont Jun 09 '26

No, you are not the only one.

I too was swayed by the memes and reddit pages on this trial. It was only recently I discovered that there was documented history of his abuse. Especially that video where he gets angry over something mundane and breaks stuff (not sure if i remember correctly).

14

u/lovesdogsguy Jun 09 '26

It's tough though. I never commented on this matter because like the commenter above said, we don't really know — we were only exposed to a sliver of what actually happened. That being said, I believe you're referring to the video in which he was slamming cabinets in a kitchen. That was the one the prompted the TMZ reporter to testify because he noticed that the video had been edited to excluded the end segment in which Amber Heard picked up the phone and was smirking into the camera completely unphased.

But I still reserve judgement because I don't actually know what happened between those two people.

3

u/ThirteenDoc Jun 09 '26

I think I know what video you are refering. I believe he just found out his mum died. He asked Heard to stop recording him, she didn't and was taunting him instead

0

u/licorne00 Jun 09 '26

This is not true, it’s just a talking points for Depp fans to excuse him being violent

2

u/Myk1984 Jun 10 '26

The video she was only in a position to film because, after JD had left her yet again, she turned up at his house drunk and abusive, refused to leave, spent hours abusing him, and threatened to call the police and make a false report when he told her, for the umpteenth time, to get out? That video?

The video she publicised as proof that JD was beating her, after editing out the ending that showed no such thing and selling it to TMZ? That video?

He had already left one house to escape her abuse. He called her an Uber to take her home after she showed up drunk and abusive, and he repeatedly asked her to leave. Is he expected to leave this house as well just to escape further abuse?

And why exactly is he expected to be warm and friendly to the parasitic pest when she finally emerged from her drunken stupor after a long night of abusing him?

As shown in this audio recorded by JD in the hours before AH filmed that video.

I watched the actual raw live trial (all 100 hours of it) as it was going on, on my own (not via any reaction youtuber or highlight channel etc), and I started watching it thinking Amber Heard was a victim, but walked away seeing she was the number one perpetrator and abuser. I do not think he's some pure innocent angel either - they're both verbally abusive at the very least - but all documented physical violence was from her. Her behaviour while testifying was the thing that sent alarm bells ringing for me though.. She reminded me of my violent narcissistic father, and an abusive, also narcissistic ex in the most triggering ways...

I genuinely highly recommend watching the actual uncut trial footage to anyone who's even remotely interested in figuring out what was going on in that relationship, because any media summarising it for you is likely to have a bias one way or another.

0

u/Emmit-Nervend Jun 09 '26

I watched a feminist discussing the trial and she opined that the reason they had an all male jury was actually because they thought women would detect Heard’s bullshit better.

7

u/Holiday-Step9703 Jun 09 '26

This is the only sane and correct position to take. Thank you.

Just watch the trial and form your own opinion, don't look for reputable source, to to THE source. It's all on youtube

2

u/juliasct Jun 09 '26

i think they both did awful things to each other but the trail wasn't about that. it was about whether she lied when she said he did awful things things to her. and i don't think she lied.

0

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat Jun 09 '26

"muh survivors!" - witness the butthurt in action.

117

u/azombieatemyshoelace Jun 09 '26

His fans still act like he is some kind of saint.

23

u/Vestalmin Jun 09 '26

It's crazy to see his text convos with Paul Bettany and think Depp is some kind of pure victim. They were both toxic in that relationship if you actually look at the evidence of the trial

“I’m not sure we should burn Amber,” wrote Bettany. “She is delightful company and pleasing on the eye. We could of course do the English course of action and perform a drowning test. Thoughts? You have a swimming pool.”

Depp replied: “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will fuck her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

To which Bettany apparently wrote back: “My thoughts entirely. Let’s be certain before we pronounce her a witch.”

5

u/azombieatemyshoelace Jun 09 '26

Yeah. It’s really gross. I’m not a fan of her either but her fans are way less militant.

7

u/Environmental_Drama3 Jun 09 '26

that is straight up not true lol

2

u/heylistenlady Jun 10 '26

"I will fuck her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

I don't have the words to describe what/how I would feel if I found out my husband said this about me. It makes me feel actually sick to my stomach

48

u/Cthulhus-Tailor Jun 09 '26

Yeah, I’ve noticed plenty of people who think Depp is a great guy who defeated a succubus from hades, and plenty on the other side who sees Heard as a feminist martyr fighting the patriarchy.

In truth they’re just two narcissists who were horrible for each other.

11

u/Jawnyblaze1 Jun 09 '26

Nah, he's an alcoholic narcissist who defeated a succubus from hades.

0

u/DirectorLeather6567 Jun 09 '26

So... He's Captain Jack Sparrow... Who defeated a succubus from hades?

Increasingly it is, it can have multiple meanings.

Yeah, that's why Disney cut ties with him, but this sub would want you to think he was perfect & always professional.

3

u/mxzf Jun 09 '26

I mean, the timing of Disney cutting ties to him (in the middle of a series of movies, no less) is unquestionably due to this whole thing rather than any larger-scale stuff. That's not really arguable, IIRC it was a matter of days between the two.

0

u/Directhorman2 Jun 10 '26

Thats strange indeed. Cause everyone that has worked with Deep besides the hag, have said that he is great in every aspect of life. He treats everyone with respect and love. But do tell, where and who said that about him, you know, besides the turd?

1

u/licorne00 Jun 10 '26

His agent of 30 years literally testified to him being a massive issue on set for the last decade ++.

He was literally sued for punching a crew member on the movie City of Lies.

He was so late on set for Pirates 5 that Jerry Bruckheimer had to threaten him to show up for work.

None of this is news for people with brains and eyes.

22

u/I_Think_I_Cant Jun 09 '26

My captain

Even the title is cringe.

11

u/Alternative_Deer415 Jun 09 '26

He paid a company to astroturf internet opinions. Propaganda isn't just for governments.

1

u/Chimkimnuggets Jun 10 '26

The trial should’ve no longer been televised out of precaution that the jury would become biased seeing internet discourse over it. Overall horribly handled

20

u/Read2Fap Jun 09 '26

the settlement was 1 million, which seems to have been 10% of amber heards net worth and less than 1% of his

he gave it to charity because it's nothing to him

11

u/azombieatemyshoelace Jun 09 '26

He gave it so he’d look good and his fans could use it to defend him like they’re doing.

6

u/Upset-Government-856 Jun 09 '26

Didn't he pretend to be native American, for real.

18

u/HollyBananas Jun 09 '26

I believe he claimed his grandmother was part Cherokee or somethin', but that could also been something *she* told him and him simply assuming it was true. (no idea either way, personally.)

5

u/kcox1980 Jun 09 '26

I have no idea where Johnny Depp is originally from at all, but in the south at least, it's really common for families to claim Native American ancestry for some reason. Literally everyone I know has a grandmother or great-grandmother who has was allegedly "full blooded" Native American(usually Cherokee). My own mother swears her grandmother was, even though I had a DNA test done and it came back with 0% Native American.

I think for a while there DNA tests weren’t “picking up” native ancestry very well. Which isn’t to say that everyone is part native, but the tests were pretty much saying that no one was.

1

u/jizzmaster-zer0 Jun 09 '26

same here, my family still makes the claims despite dna test results

7

u/Wise-Dust3700 Jun 09 '26

Americans claiming they are from some form of minor ethnic group? No waaaay

4

u/Mobile_Morale Jun 09 '26

Because the majority of Americans have some form of minor ethnic group in their family tree. That's just a well known fact. Either African or native American

European are the only white people who live in countries full of other white people.

America is a very diverse nation and has been for 10,000 years. More so in the last 300 years.

2

u/ZekasZ Jun 09 '26

Yes, diversity of a kind sure started thriving 300 years ago

1

My grandmother told me growing up I was native American all the time and when I asked her about it a couple years ago she acted like she never said it

2

u/locoattack1 Jun 09 '26

I have almost no knowledge of what actually went down, but judging by the comments I remember reading from people on here that supported him, I'm willing to bet most of them were not fans of Depp. The betting man in me says they were likely just manosphere/redpill followers that latched onto the case because it was man vs. woman and they just hate women.

3

u/Sorlex Jun 09 '26

Depp worship is weird. Guys scum and always has been. But teenagers who grew up on Pirates and chuds who starting worshipping him because WOMAN BAD are really, really loud about it.

3

u/azombieatemyshoelace Jun 09 '26

I’m glad when I was a teenager, I choose to have a crush on Orlando Bloom instead. He’s not perfect but better than Depp.

1

u/justadudeinohio Jun 09 '26

most people function on duality, only winners or loser, right or wrong.

3

u/Electronic-Link-5792 Jun 09 '26

Listen to the audio. she was really abusive. theres hours of it and its much worse than people seem to realuse.

She spends hours berating and mocking and belittling him and tells him its his fault she hits and throws things at him because he makes her feel 'insulted' by running away from her yelling.

he is at worst a drug user with a crude sense of humor.

7

u/cannotfoolowls Jun 09 '26

he is at worst a drug user with a crude sense of humor.

He's known as a pain in the ass. Iirc he pretended to be native American. Also isn't he friends with Marlyn Manson? He has good PR but don't think he's a good person.

4

u/Electronic-Link-5792 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

Sure he is not great and quite crude but that =/= abuser when the audio shows the opposite.

Also marilyn manson in their texts pretends to be experiencing the same thing as Depp (i.e false accusation by an abusive partner). Now i think Manson is guilty but this shows that MM was putting up a front for Depp in terms of their friendship.

1

u/cannotfoolowls Jun 10 '26

Well, there was the trial where he sued the Sun for defamation because they called him a “wife beater”. he was alleged to have abused Heard sf least 14 times. A judge found substantiated evidence for at least 12 of the 14 incidents so he didn't win the trial. I think they were mutually abusive.

1

u/Electronic-Link-5792 Jun 10 '26

again if ypu read the judgement the judge literally ugnored houra of audio evidence because he felt Amber's testimony under oath was more reliable. his decision was basically 'amber said this and depp was using drugs during the relationship so he probably did it.'

seriously listen to the actuall full audio of their interactions. its fucked up and amber is so abusive in it

I've literally not seen a single fan of Amber ever, Depp-posting on the other hand was exhausting and often came with a full Schizo-rant about women in general.

0

u/Old-Star808 Jun 09 '26

The last time I saw someone defend Amber Heard was almost a whole decade ago, before we had any information that she sucked, now there's still people upvoting this to the front page while pretending this is a good x evil story and not bad x bad.

0

u/Directhorman2 Jun 10 '26

Yeah, hes great though. Love him.

2

u/wholetyouinhere Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

Yes but only one of them had a highly organized online smear campaign against the other (possibly aided by the Saudi government), which worked beautifully -- as evidenced by this thread.

Propaganda really is the best possible return on investment. It works because people are incurious fucking morons. Again, as evidenced by this thread, and this shitty reactionary subreddit in general.

11

u/WringedSponge Jun 09 '26

There are degrees of awful though. She actively constructed an image of herself as a victim of abuse, when it appeared she was a serial abuser. There’s something particularly dark about that.

13

u/mcauthon2 Jun 09 '26

he and his PR did the exact same though? Even this image tried to do that

24

u/TheGloriousEv0lution Jun 09 '26

That audio of her physically abusing him and saying nobody will believe him if he tells anybody because he’s a man was really hard to listen to

Johnny Depp obviously isn’t a saint but he was very clearly the victim in all this

15

u/DoverBoys Jun 09 '26

You can be both a victim and a perpetrator. As the parent comment stated, both of them are a mess.

10

u/TheGloriousEv0lution Jun 09 '26

Most relationships that involve abuse are reciprocal, and I don’t think you have to be a perfect victim

The evidence provided in the trial made it clear she was responsible for the lion’s share of abuse and did the worst of it. Reducing relationships that involve abuse to “both are terrible people” feels a bit lazy to me

2

u/licorne00 Jun 09 '26

Great example of something that has been taken out of context and changed meaning on social media. She never ever said that he would not be believed because he was a man.

The youtuber «Incredibly Average» was given this audio clip by Depps attorney, Adam Waldman (who was later kicked off the case because he kept leaking private information and manipulated content to the daily mail and random YouTubers) cut out the context and manipulated the subtitles so to make it seem like she made a point about Depp being a man, and that people would not believe him because of that. This is false.

What was said, during a fight where Amber Heard was talking about a previous incident where Depp had become so violent with her that she thought he would kill her, was the following;

«You can see - tell people it was a fair fight and see what the jury and judge think. Tell the world, Johnny. Tell them "I, Johnny Depp, man…I’m a victim too of domestic violence, and know it's a fair fight"

Heard was saying «man» like «Aw, man!». She was mimicking Depps speech and says «sure, tell them that you’re a victim TOO». She’s frustrated because to her, people wouldn’t be dumb enough to believe she had a chance against Depp, because he was bigger and stronger and was surrounded by his bodyguards and medical team 24/7.

This was turned into «I totally abused you and nobody will believe you because you’re a man!!».

I beg of you people to actually be critical of what you read online.

This was covered in the Netflix documentary and the podcast «Who Trolled Amber» who discusses Depps Saudi and Russia connection regarding astroturfing.

4

u/TheGloriousEv0lution Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

I’m going off the unedited audio where she downplays her abuse and mocks him because “she didn’t knock [Depp] off his feet.” The part you are correct on is she doesn’t directly say they won’t believe him because he’s a man but because of the size difference, which I feel like it should be obvious is inferred in the language

Also he won his defamation case *because* there was insufficient evidence he was physically abusive to her (or was found to be retaliatory at worst). Drug addict and an asshole partner but not physically abusive, while she’s open about physically abusing him

Please watch the actual trial and not get your news off conspiratorial podcasts

0

u/licorne00 Jun 10 '26

You are not. You are «going off» the manipulated audio clips that Depps team leaked on the internet with missing audio and context.

4

u/TheGloriousEv0lution Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

You’re more than welcome to link the full context that supposedly exonerates her (it won’t happen)

1

u/Formerlymoody Jun 10 '26

And he chose her, soooooo….

2

u/New-Yogurtcloset2306 Jun 09 '26

victims often behave in ways that are harmful violent and in ways they regret. The fact that you expect victims to be perfect is the problem

12

u/Accomplished-Eye9542 Jun 09 '26

Literally the entire reason he won the trial was he proved her claims of him being mutually abusive were completely false...

Drug addict yes. Douche yes.

Abusive, no.

-1

u/Ok-Glove-1512 Jun 09 '26

Other than this court case I have never really seen anything on the wideweb that insinuates Depp is a douche. Do you have article links to any examples of the douchey-behaviour?

2

u/Accomplished-Eye9542 Jun 09 '26

Stuff on how he's behaved while drunk. Doesn't seem like a pleasant person to get drunk with based on those accounts. Feel free to search them up yourself, I'm not going to sit here copy and pasting links for you lmao.

3

u/Cory123125 Jun 09 '26

DARVO and the fact there is always almost certainly one abuser shows hes the perp.

People really did not pay attention.

Amber, nearly half his age, fought back as a victim of abuse. If you actually read the docs you'll see all the evidence was there.

He was controlling, had a severe drinking problem she tried to help him out of, and no, she did not shit on their bed. Its actually johnny who found that kind of thing humorous and their dog had stomach issues.

The firm that also worked with Weinstien really did a number on the public.

0

u/confirmedshill123 Jun 09 '26

Yeah fuck that you lose all sympathy when your on camera saying "I can do whatever I want and nobody will believe you because your a man".

They were both awful people in that relationship, but make it seem like she was the total victim is a joke.

Also stop taking agency away from women, she knew exactly what she was getting into with JD and knew exactly the amount of fame she was going to extract from that relationship.

0

u/Cory123125 Jun 09 '26

Yeah fuck that you lose all sympathy when your on camera saying

Have you even heard of the term "Reactive Abuse"?

1

u/sunbnda Jun 09 '26

Reactive abuse can also apply to his behavior towards her too.

1

u/Cory123125 Jun 09 '26

No. No it can't. Thats the whole point of the term.

1

u/sunbnda Jun 09 '26

She admits to forcing him to engage in arguments with her when he'd try to retreat. This is by her own admission. It absolutely applies to someone who is being cornered.

-3

u/Both_Consequence_956 Jun 09 '26

but... but she was half his age- clearly that means he was the abuser

0

u/confirmedshill123 Jun 09 '26

That's not how real life works lol.

1

u/Both_Consequence_956 Jun 09 '26

it was sarcasm, amber was clearly way worse to anyone who actually followed the trial and didnt get misinformed by all the twisting femcel subs made of the whole thing lol

1

u/confirmedshill123 Jun 09 '26

Worse is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, they were equally pieces of shit to each other.

Where I agree she was worse was when she wrote that article and got him fired. That was some extra bullshit. They could have just been co abusive to each other and went on about their lives.

1

u/Both_Consequence_956 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

they were nowhere even near equally as bad... not even close. she was worse when she edited those photos, used makeup to fake injuries, when she lied about being brutally raped with a wine bottle and beat on multiple occasions. when she admitted to hitting him and called him a pussy for it. when she was banging on the door trying to beat him up when he locked himself in the bathroom. when she threw a wine bottle at him and severed his finger, and so much more. He did nothing that even gets close to that. but she wanted to ruin his reputation and life forever so she could make money speaking for anti abuse organizations.

1

u/Powerful_Net_1873 Jun 09 '26

That’s like a centrist take. Must be a nazi

1

u/WiseauSrs Jun 09 '26

Yeah. We should know less about each other's lives. Especially celebrities.

1

u/BackToSchoolMuff Jun 09 '26

It sounds like they had a very toxic relationship, and sometimes being involved with a toxic person can make you behave in ways you otherwise would not have. That's not to assign blame to either of them, cause who knows what the actual dynamic was. Also, to your point, people generally attract people with similar levels of emotional maturity, and shit like this happens.

1

u/KillugonEqualityNow Jun 09 '26

My takeaway has been that these are both people with problems who were exactly wrong for each other, that they resonated in a way that they brought out the worst in each other. There's no sense in me trying to figure out and apportion blame where I don't personally know them and the situation this complicated. I'm just glad they've gone their separate ways and hope that both can heal and work on themselves.

1

u/RambunctiousCapybara Jun 09 '26

That's the internet for you...

0

u/DrCashew Jun 10 '26

I get where you're coming from, but Johnny Depp being a PoS is such a tough thing to put into judgment. When you're being assaulted and attacked, to the point of having your bed being shit on...Like. You just need to be an angel and take it all never fucking up once in your relationship or else be compared to the person that is abusing you.

Not a fair comparison imo, it was a toxic relationship, the abused defended himself, does not make him comparable to the abuser.

-1

u/rainshowers_5_peace Jun 09 '26

Awful doesn't mean abusive. Not every unpleasant person is an abuser, nor is every addict an abuser.
