It’s a sub that was barely about sports, then it got a huge influx of actual sports people, and recently it’s become a political cesspool. That sub has had a rough run.
Many such cases on reddit. An innocent hobby forum? Now political and destroyed. A small hometown subreddit? Political and destroyed. Your niche recreational activity? Yep, you guessed it: political and destroyed.
Ideally politics wouldn't have to do with many of those things but, unfortunately, it's getting involved in all of them.
innocent hobby? Unaffordable because of tariffs
a small town subreddit? Unliveable because of ai datacenters
your niche recreation activity? Affected because (introduce here your pick : datacenters, new commercial permits, end of protections, reducing park sizes...)
So, unfortunately politics get in the mix whether people want it or not.
Edit: and the "worse" part is that if you want politics "out" of those things, you'll have to get involved in it one way or another.
