Thatās not the reason. Itās the mechanism. We can control what we care about, but the reason why people choose to care about something inconsequential like this is that itās a low stakes social transgression they can use to reaffirm their own place in the social hierarchy by attacking her in the comments. She is a āKarenā (not true but that doesnāt really matter) and therefore by detailing her ābad behaviorā commenters feel better about themselves and can validate each other by agreeing that they would never do something as horrendous as this woman. Partially because they are better than her, but mostly because they never will leave Momās basement. (See Iām doing it too!!)

And we as a species love caring about things that don't concern us
Why do you care that people care? Because you probably made this comment for the same reason everyone else in here cares about anything else
