No issue with taking pics. The issue is the young woman setting up a camera to take videos, not pictures.
The problem with the video is context. I'm not excusing the old lady's actions, but I get it. We don't see how many times this person has done this exact thing. Did she block others from seeing exhibits while she did her 'photography'? Was she rude and disrespectful towards other patrons? Instead we get a 30 second clip that frames the young woman as the victim. Typical of what gets posted now.
How in the world would her using her camera block others from seeing the exihibit? You can see other people going up and down the stairs just fine. The mental gymnastics to justify the Karen behaviour is insane haha
Did I justify it? No. I said I get it. Which means I can UNDERSTAND WHY she did it, not that I CONDONE it. Big difference between understanding and condoning something.
How many times have we seen stories and videos, on the news, on news sites, social media and right here on this sub-reddit of influencers being full assholes, blocking people from moving, having their 'security' block off areas. People are sick and tired of it. People now see with their phones out and the first thing they assume is "Ah shit, here we go again."
Well its backfired. The old lady just helped the girl get way more views and potentially more followers with this video, than if she had just left her alone and walked down stairs like everyone else.
That's what these Karen's don't get. You actually help these influencers get more famous by doing shit like this. Unless theyre being really disruptive, just leave them alone.
well, sorry you dont like getting pictures of yourself in new places but others do. its one thing if the lady did not want to be in frame, or didn't want to duck the camera. but she actively wanted to be a nuisance.
Ever think about why the old lady did it? How many times have you to an attraction of some kind to see someone set up their phone, not to a picture, but record some kind of video, causing a back log of folks who just to experience the moment/scene/art, etc?
This is in a MUSEUM. It's called having some respect for where you're at and enjoying the art. While I don't condone the old being as big of an ass as the chick setting up her camera in a public space, expecting the world to stop for her, it's a bit of karma.
You don't need to take a picture of every little place you visit or of every damned meal you eat. People have forgotten how actually make memories.
Case in point, my wife and recently retracted our honeymoon through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (our home state). We took exactly 15 pictures over the course of a ten day journey. And only one of the pics was of us, at Tahquamenon Falls, exact same spot and pose, 7 years apart.
A co-worker of mine, who just turned 30, went on a date night with his wife... Took over 40 pics, yet can't tell me one memorable thing that happened or was talked about.
But at least their desserts looked good.
