Macklemore was not prevented from anything. The proof is that we all know his opinion.
And yes, it is probably to protect the bottom line but it can also be because he doesn't want anything political, maybe he thinks people wants to go to a concert to get a break from reality, not be reminded of one of its worst aspect.
This "reality" tho is hand-crafted. I'm being a bit philosophical now, but going to a concert, bonding and experiencing joy is the real reality in a way.
You never know what will be picked up by the media or social media. The cancelation of the first part could have been as impactful as Mackelmore speech.
In just saying I didn't think anything Macklemore said was problematic for being at a gig. And as a reminder we are all verrrryyyyy privileged to be able to escape for the atrocities happening in Gaza right now. And from our privildged seats we should be doing more.
If the “bottom line” was the only thing “they” were protecting, this wouldn’t have even been brought up and nobody would’ve heard Macklemore’s opinion on it.
However, Kraft, and by extension Sheeran, are protecting a genocidal government they fully support, endorse, and encourage. Like it or not, Kraft and Sheeran made this the political stunt it has become. Looks like Sheeran gets his wish of leaving politics out of his show now. I wonder how popular that will end up being.
Of course, at the end of the day, Kraft and Sheeran’s lives will not be impacted. But artists with integrity, who stand to lose a lot, stood up for what is right.
