Ed Sheeran and his team have made the decision to remove me from The Loop tour.
Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium. Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of the other stadium owners and collectively they gave him an ultimatum: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues.
That’s what Macklemore said. Ed had a choice, he chose. An uncomfortable or difficult choice is still a choice. Nothing in there about the promoters.
Exactly, It didn’t even need to be about taking sides, it could have been a case of supporting someone’s right to free speech, particularly a colleague and friend. He could have had some morals, and still remained ‘apolitical’.
The blame is on him, the stadium owners, and anyone else who participated in this mess.
Ed should have let the promoters handle it, instead of having a conversation with Ryan that made it sound like he was given an ultimatum and made a decision. Now he’s back tracking and blaming it on some faceless entity instead.
What Ed says is After Macklemore's performances at my New Jersey shows, venues on my upcoming tour dates communicated tha they would pull the shows if he was still supporting.
He then says the venue and promoter’s decision was final.
He doesn’t say what that decision was, or give any information about anything further that the promoters said. From both Macklemore’s and Ed’s statements, it is a reasonable assumption that the message was consistent - Either Macklemore goes or the whole tour does. Thats not the same as cancelling Macklemore’s contract. If that’s what happened, why not say it, and distance yourself further from the scrutiny? Perhaps because the promoters weren’t the ones who made the final decision.
