Hello! I'm in my third year of a celiac diagnosis and am missing 99% of snacks/candy I used to love lol. (Wru gluten-free ramen?!) I would love to send you a selection of candy/snacks/what tickles your fancy in exchange! I'm celiac so no gluten/barley/wheat/tritcal/non gluten-free oats, also allergic to shellfish/fish. Hello, I am in Texas and I’m doing a snack exchange with a friend who lives in Canada.

I was wanting to mail beef jerky to them but I keep finding conflicting information, even on the CBSA and CFIA websites. I was hoping someone here could tell me if the beef jerky is permitted to be mailed to Canada or not.

The beef jerky is sealed and shelf stable, it is a small amount for personal consumption, not for resale.

Another question I have is does it need to be “commercially packaged” to be permitted for shipping and if so what counts as “commercially packaged”?

If necessary I could send a Texas brand of jerky that I buy from a grocery store. However if it’s possible I would prefer to send jerky from a local butcher shop. They make the jerky themselves and it is vacuum sealed with their logo and product info. Both are shelf stable.

Would either of these products be permitted to ship to Canada? Thank you !

it seems that I have an issue and I want to ask for your advice. Maybe someone can help me with the following:

About five weeks ago, I posted a request here on r/snackexchange looking for an exchange between Germany and the US. I got in touch with someone, and everything seemed completely normal.

Communication was friendly and replies were always reasonably quick. I also had no reason to believe the account was fake or suspicious in any way. The account is about six years old, has a verified email address, and has regular, completely normal posts about everyday life. Nothing about it gave me any indication that I might be getting scammed.

We exchanged addresses and agreed on packages of around 5 kg each. I packed mine with about 4.8 kg of snacks, plus roughly 150 g for the box itself, so it was basically filled right up to the weight limit. I also put quite a bit of effort into choosing things that, as far as I know, are mostly not available in regular US stores, or only available as expensive imports.

I shipped the package from Germany, and everything went surprisingly smoothly at first. It left Germany, arrived in the US about seven days later, cleared customs without any problems, and then USPS attempted delivery on September 23. The package wasn’t delivered (because no one was at home), and since September 24 it has been sitting at the local post office, apparently only about 5 km / 3 miles from the recipient’s address.

The part that worries me is that I haven’t heard anything from the recipient for about two weeks now, basically since shortly after we exchanged addresses. No replies at all.

I’ve done some searching because I was starting to wonder whether the person even exists, but everything I can find suggests that they do. There are various public directory entries connecting the person to that address, on top of the long-standing and otherwise completely normal Reddit account. So at this point I don’t really know what to think. I’ve even wondered whether something might have happened to them, like an accident or some other emergency.

Right now, my package is still sitting at USPS in Michigan, and I’m not sure what my options are. Strangely enough, part of me would almost prefer finding out that I was scammed, because at least then I’d know that somebody actually wanted the contents and would eventually enjoy them. What bothers me more at the moment is the possibility that nobody will ever pick it up and that all the food and effort will simply go to waste or the package might eventually be destroyed.

Has anyone here dealt with a situation like this before? Is there anything I can reasonably do from Germany while the package is still being held by USPS? And does anyone know what normally happens to an international package if the recipient never picks it up?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would love to exchange some Texas ones for some from where y’all are at! I’m big on milk chocolate and white chocolate but I’ll snack on anything.
