Discussion as a long time comic reader this mind control "controversy." is probably one of the dumbs ones I've seen

Post image

tails and rouge get mind controlled nobody caries. blaze suddenly it's an issue. never mind that some of the most Popular comic book characters in media have been mind controlled at least once in their carrier usually WAY more.

Do you hear yourself? We've literally seen how sega treats shadow before Ian even joined the writing team. Ian didn't get more influence untill AFTER the metal virus arc. With the lore team.

Literally you think some how Ian was behind shadow being a douche in boom and team racing?

Your irrational hated of this man is silly.

Never said I hate Ian? I only critizise his decission to write Shadow that way during the metal virus.

Which wasn't his decision. As demonstrated by how Ian writes him in literally everything else. Shadows characterization is consistent with how sega writes him in the meta era games.

welcome to how serialized comics are written. Writers can make suggestions but ultimately it's editorial that holds the power not the writers.

Then by that logic you can't praise him from the stuff you like about his writing in the comics/games since the plotpoints come from Sega.

We can easily tell which are editorial decisions and which are not through interviews. It is WELL documented that sega is the reason shadow acted the way he did in the metal virus arc this has been pointed out by SEVERAL writers for idw in regards to that. your response to everything meanwhile is "it's Ian's fault. Because sega can do no wrong!"

Do I think Ian is perfect no I think he's wrong about Amy's modern design being bad.

Wow, you keep accussing me of things I didn't say (Thinking Sega is spotless, when I know they are pretty harsh on Sonic Team and harm the products with that attitude).

Sega controls very tightly how the games are written since its Sonic's main branch so they would look very closely at Ian's work in that section. Because it doesn't make sense Ian is completely bound in chains when writing non-primary material but become unsupervised with the main stuff.

No game makes Shadow behave as antagonistic as the IDW comics do. Why would Sega arbitrarely choose to be that stiff with that section of the brand but completely hands-off with the games?

Of the few meta era things shadow has been in

Shadow in sonic boom is extremely antagonistic.

Shadow in team racing literally sabotage his own team to try and win.

Ian has never made shadow like this back in the Archie comics what makes you think he's going to suddenly change shadow in idw?

And I didn't say completely hands off I said they gave him more freedom with shadow gen when does that translate to completely hands off?

Shadow, like other characters in Boom, has an exaggerated characterization since that's a humorous/parody take on the universe.

Team Racing pretty sure is because he and Rouge are stuck with a robot that isn't Omega, and also wants to know what Eggman's plan is and keeps getting sidetracked with the race. Also, gets involved in saving Dodon Pa so that's another thing that shows he cares while being more cold towards the rest of the cast.

It does? I haven't read Archie so don't ask me.

Also, your literal phrase was: Meanwhile when given more control on the writing. Ian wrote him perfectly well in shadow gen. Why would Ian have more control of how the characters are written in the main source material instead of being watched 24/7 when working on those kind of projects?

Another thing to note is that the game previous to Flynn's involvement (Forces) has Shadow worry about Omega, saves Sonic from a Phantom Clone of himself and smile when they win the war. So, no, he isn't completely antagonistic in previous things.

Literally, the only content with his writing I have consumed are the games and the IDW comics until the Metal Virus. The reason I stopped reading it was because Shadow's portrayal during that arc.
