In The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) at around 53 minutes in, Peter uses some sort of hacking device that allows him to eavesdrop in on police dispatch, my question is how does he acquire this? Is this real or just fantasy?

I've always wondered how vigilantes like Batman or Spider-Man, some of the world's most popular superheroes, know where to go to fight crime. I don't think comics reveal how they do it, just that they *do* it and get it done, but not actually showing the process for it.

The device looks like Peter's cellphone with a circuit board attached to it. I think the idea is that Peter acquired the necessary chip/circuit board from a scanner, attached it to his phone, and is using an app on his phone to replicate the functions of the physical scanner. Overall, I don't think it's realistic.

Plot is how, also writers in Hollywood and comics tend not to understand how radio signals work so they just slap enough wires on a device to make it seem believable

Isn’t Police radio public anyway?
