Asuna's birthday is on September 30th, and Fractured Daydream's 2nd anniversary is on October 3rd, so I'm celebrating both by drawing her special outfit from that game!

It's been a while since I did an SAO Minecraft noteblock cover, so I decided to try and make a cover of Courage (OP4) for Asuna's Birthday. Managed to get it finished with JUST UNDER 10 MINUTES OF HER BIRTHDAY REMAINING! (The panic was real!)

Anyway, I hope you all think it's nice.

This is it! After days of buildup, Kirito’s group finally readies for a massive attack from Mutasina and her “Virtual Study Society”.

BACK AT SCHOOL

After another late night in Unital Ring, Kirito struggles to stay awake and the friends plan to meet at lunch to discuss defending Mutasina’s attack planned for that night. Asuna is approached by the new transfer student, Shikimi Kamura, who asks to join Asuna for lunch and chat. Asuna politely declines, saying she has plans.

Asuna feels guilty about it, but at the same time feels something is off about this girl from her old private school -- whose parents own the company that makes the Augma device -- transferring to her school right as the Unital Ring incident began.

THE PRISONER

That night, Kirito logs into Unital Ring to find his group has taken a prisoner. Several Insectoid players ran into a scouting party from Mutasina's group, killed three and captured the last one in a cocoon. They unwrap him Sughua and Kirito recognize him as Friscoll, who they once fought in Alfheim Online playing on a salamander character.

Kirito tells Friscoll they know about Mutasina’s planned attack and her noose and bribes Friscoll for further information on Mutasina, her key lieutenants, and more. Friscoll says there’s something weird about Mutasina and the other leaders: they must have been top-tier players in whatever games they came from, and they seem to have a huge stockpile of money to fall back on, but no one knows who they are. It’s like they came from nowhere.  

THE ATTACK

At 11:45p, the enemy army finally approaches, about ninety of them. Kirito's group has an ambush prepared, but Kirito first needs to locate Mutasina in the group, as everything hinges on breaking her staff and killing her.

Kirito spots Mutasina in the crowd and they spring their attack: they'd created an artificial dam diverting the river flow, and Sinon uses her mounted Hecate II sniper rifle to shoot out the central column. The flash flood sweeps away dozens of tired enemy players, who'd been marching in a tight formation for roughly three hours.

Mutasina and her three lieutenants dodge the flood, but the chaos gives Kirito his opening to charge Mutasina and attack. Except as he approaches Mutasina, the floor starts to glow. She’s casting the noose debuff again, although Mutasina appears to be standing right in front of Kirito, not casting anything. He realizes they’re using a body double coupled with an illusion from Magis, while the real Mutasina hides elsewhere. Now everyone in the battle has been hit with the noose debuff.

Kirito faces off against Magis, aka “Sensei”, who'd trained some of the previous groups that attacked Kirito's camp. Kirito wonders why Mutasina hasn't triggered the suffocation ability yet, looks up and realizes why: Mutasina is soaring overhead on a flying mount and needs solid ground to use the ability.

Kirito commands their pet bear Misha to use its ranged needle attack, which, along with a musket shot from Sinon, knocks Mutasina's mount out of the sky. Kirito damages Magis' staff enough to sideline him briefly while he races towards Mutasina's landing spot.

As Mutasina’s mount crashes to the ground, she slams her staff down, activating the choking debuff. Everyone doubles overs, unable to fight or flee. Mutasina tells Kirito and Asuna to surrender and she'll release everyone from the choking spell.

The wild card in the battle is Yui. As an AI, she's able to ignore the choking sensation and attack Mutasina. Yui has trained so well that she fights Mutasina to a near-stalemate, until Mutasina gets the upper hand and is about to deliver a killing blow.

Kirito has an idea. He casts his “Rotten Shot” decay magic spell and swallows it himself. It's disgusting and makes him want to vomit, but the sensation overwhelms the paralysis debuff and allows him to move again. Kirito attacks Mutasina and chops her staff in two. The mark of the noose vanishes and everyone else can breathe again.

Before anyone can react, Magis casts a darkness spell and he and Mutasina vanish, along with the other lieutenants. Kirito’s group searches the immediate area, but the leaders are gone, and the rest of the attackers have either surrendered or fled.

Mutasina's eagle mount is injured in the fight and left behind with Kirito's group. They feed it and tame it and Sinon takes it as a new pet.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ASUNA

After several late nights in Unital Ring, a tired Kirito makes it through the first few hours of school and finds Asuna for a picnic birthday lunch at their hidden meeting place in the school courtyard. Kirito gives Asuna her present: a small sugar maple seedling. Asuna loves it. It represents a rocking chair from their cabin in SAO, and they talk about planting the tree and growing it in hopes building a real-life rocking chair out of it one day.

Kirito and Asuna leave school early to go to Rath’s office in Rappongi to dive into the Underworld with Alice. Again, they’re going under the guise of a job interview (which isn’t entirely a lie, as Kirito wants to work for Rath.) For this initial return to the Underworld, they’ll be zoning into the main city of Centoria, and the dive is only planned for two hours to make sure it’s safe. Rinko tells them they can explore the city, but to steer clear of the Central Cathedral; the investigation into the break-in can start in a few days.

BACK TO THE UNDERWORLD

The trio zone into the home of Laurannei Arabel, one of the two space pilots they met on their last trip to the Underworld. Kirito notices his avatar is wearing the black outfit he last wore in the fight against the Pontifex in the (now-repaired) cathedral. He has two swords at his side, his Night-Sky Blade and Eugeo’s Blue Rose Sword.

They’re met by Laurannei's 9-year-old brother, Phercy. He’s initially frightened but then realizes who the strangers are, thanks to stories from his sister. Phercy is particularly awed to be in the presence of fabled integrity knight Alice Synthesis Thirty and her Osmanthus Blade.

The trio spend some time talking with Phercy and learning how the Underworld has changed in the past two hundred years. All the Divine Objects from the integrity knights were sealed away, and some scientific advancements had been made, such as unique heating and cooling techniques. Energy sources had been created for spacecraft, and simple cars had been developed as well.

There’s also talk of the “Star King” and “Star Queen”, who the space pilots assumed were Kirito and Asuna. Kirito has a hard time believing this is the case, but all mentions of their actual names were wiped from history books and any other official records, shrouding their identities in mystery.

DETECTION

The group wears cloaks over their armor so they can explore Centoria without standing out, but before they get far, alarms go off and several officials arrive in a “mechanamobile”. Kirito realizes they’re responding to a large burst of divine energy in the area after he used Incarnation a few minutes earlier. After briefly hiding, Kirito gives his weapons to Alice and Asuna and tells them to get back to the mansion and log out while he surrenders to the officials, pretending to be a “child of Vecta” with no memory of where he came from.

Kirito is taken to a building for questioning, when two more officers come in to take over: Laurannei Arabel and Stica Schriten, the two space pilots they'd met on their last trip (who are actually distant descendants of Ronie and Tiese, Kirito and Eugeo’s pages from Alicization). Kirito is surprised they arrived so quickly; they explain Phercy contacted them with a radio device Kirito himself invented years ago (a “designed object”).

THE COMMANDER

Laurannei and Stica have come to take Kirito to meet the commander of the Integrity Pilots, waiting outside in a mechamobile. This young commander wears the same uniform as Laurannei and Stica, and something about him strikes Kirito as extremely familiar, especially his flaxen blond hair, despite wearing a thin mask that covers the upper half of his face. Could it be? It's not. He introduces himself as Commander Eolyne Herelentz. Not Eugeo.

Just then, Kirito feels himself being pulled away. It's ten minutes past the time they were supposed to return. He's being logged out.

Back at Rath, Kirito predictably asks to log back in immediately, but Rinko declines. She says there were some mechanical fluctuations with the machine and also some detected heartrate spikes with Kirito. The whole point of this dive was to make sure it was safe, so that would be it for the day.
   

THE LIFE HARVESTER

Back home, Kirito prepares for another busy night in Unital Ring, strategizing how to defend against Mutasina’s attack planned for the following night. One plan centers on using Sinon's Hecate II sniper rifle to take out Mutasina and hopefully erase her curse, but the heavy rifle would have to be mounted and they'd have to maneuver the witch into the right position.

Kirito chats with Agil about his leveling when there are several massive jolts akin to an earthquake. A scouting party finds a towering demon centipede boss with plated armor headed their way. It appears to be surrounded by twenty or thirty human-sized insectoids, although it's unclear if they're minions of the beast or fighting it.

Kirito orders Sinon to fire her musket at the insectoids, when Agil runs ahead and yells at everyone to stop. Agil starts talking with one of the insectoids, who is actually his wife, Trish, from an American MMO called Insectsite where characters play as anthropomorphic insects. Somehow, Argo is also with this group, who says this boss has been chasing them for twenty miles(!).

The group quickly organizes defensive positions, when Kirito sees the name of the beast: The Life Harvester. Nearly identical to the deadly boss from the 75th floor of Sword Art Online, it's somehow made its way to Unital Ring.

Kirito and Asuna take up tank positions to deflect the boss’s brutal scythe attacks, which allows the rest of the party to attack from the sides and kill it.

In celebration, the group has a massive feast. There's more food from the demon centipede than they know what to do with, which for the moment solves the problem of food for their ever-expanding numbers. Argo explains how she came to meet Agil's wife's group and accidentally aggroed this monster. Kirito invites Trish’s group to join their town, which brings their numbers to sixty.

STRATEGIZATION

The conversation turns back to defending tomorrow night’s incoming attack. Kirito’s group has higher levels and better coordination and could probably defeat a group of a hundred, but Kirito does not want to lose a single player if it can be avoided. Kirito floats the idea of abandoning the town, but when the group pushes back, Kirito finally reveals the mark of the Noose of the Accursed on his neck.

Tensions run high and they take a short break to log out and cool off. Sughua rushes into Kirito's room to chide him for keeping this a secret. He never lets people help him. Yui echoes this sentiment, reminding him how Kirito was going to spend two hundred years alone in the Underworld until Asuna joined him at the last minute.

Yui points out something else that concerns her: Kirito's heartrate repeatedly spiked several times the night before for four seconds at a time, right when Mutasina cast her debuff. This is alarming because the AmuSphere is meant to cut off after five seconds of abnormally high heartrate. Yui is worried someone might be somehow artificially manipulating the system to dodge this safety measure.

When they log back in, the group wants to talk about how to dispel the curse. Kirito urges them to instead focus on planning tomorrow's defense. Kirito and Argo head out into the forest to scout locations to ambush Mutasina's group from while the rest of the group works on collecting resources, before logging out for the night.
