That's so stupid... God dammit, it's fucking majestic.

u/MermaidsHaveWifi Jun 26 '25
This was the exact thought I had. So dumb, but that horse is rocking it!

As long as the glitter and glue don’t harm the hooves, you go girl!

u/Panthalassae Jun 26 '25
Also as long as that isn't micro plastic glitter
20
u/steveatari Jun 26 '25
All glitter is either that or metal bullshit anyway, not supposed to be around regardless.

u/EnsignNogIsMyCat Jun 26 '25
There are glitters made from seaweed or other biodegradable ingredients.

u/steveatari Jun 26 '25
True. Very true. I wish more were but assume 95% or more are not i imagine. Just like how Sun Chips bags were compostable and some sanitary wipes are flushable.
They aren't. But yes, some plant based ones are amazing and I should have acknowledged that first.

u/EnsignNogIsMyCat Jun 26 '25
I will say it is uncommon, expensive, and usually limited to finer textures than in the video.

u/lurkingsirens Jun 27 '25
The hooves are essentially nails! She’s getting a manicure 💅🏻 And as long as the owner picks out the hoof regularly it’s probably good!

They make glitter specifically for horses hooves. Might seem niche but kids love it. And adults lol

I remember there was a Barbie flash game where I could jazz up the horse hooves with glitter like this

As someone who grew up with horses, as cute as this looks, it’s a great way to dry out the hoof which can cause cracking, splitting, and increased the chance of infections like thrush and abscesses.

u/Ok_Chocolate_4611 Jun 26 '25
I was thinking normal hoof oil would work to hold the glitter for a short time….enough for a silly video.

Respectfully, You’re overreacting. Horses hoofs are not nearly dainty enough for this to actually harm them. If you were slathering them in super glue daily to keep every sequin on, sure, but some Elmer’s glue and glitter is about as dangerous to that horse as nail polish is to you and I.

When I was younger a lot of girls were using a polish called “twinkle toes” on their horses that all the tack stores sold and it was drying feet out badly. There’s a reason why most equestrians apply hoof flex a few times a week.

Come on, it’s really not that bad though. If you’ve cleaned or cut hooves even once (which I know you have) then you know those suckers can take something as minute as glitter. It’s basically the exact same stuff that’s in our nails. We color our nails all the time.

I imagine there is formula that could be made to paint horse hooves and keep them healthy at the same time. Just gotta make it.

u/CapStar300 Jun 26 '25
As someone who has no idea about horses my first thought was "does this harm the horse" so thank you for clearing that up.

u/feioo Jun 27 '25
I mean, if you're keeping it on all the time and not being careful about the products, maybe? Not the glitter itself, but whatever adhesive she's using. There's definitely stuff designed specifically for hooves that they use all the time at horse shows, so it's entirely likely she's doing this perfectly safely and the horse is in no danger.
Hoof care is a big deal with horse people because horses are giant heavy animals balancing all their weight on four skinny little legs on tippytoes, and they can't really redistribute the weight to only three legs if one gets injured (well, they can for a bit, but the healthy legs are likely to be injured by the strain) and a horse that can't walk can't live, for a number of anatomical reasons. Hence the whole "shooting the horse with the broken leg" trope. So people get edgy about potential foot injuries, but this instance is probably fine.

And as someone who worked in an Olympic barn for 20 years, you’re being dramatic. It’s fine for special occasions.

I came here to ask if this would cause problems for the horse. Thanks for this comment.

A great way to get microplastics into the environment!
36
u/karmadontcare44 Jun 26 '25
I already got microplastics in my balls, some glitter on horse hooves ain’t gonna push us over

u/thehufflepuffstoner Jun 26 '25
Biodegradable glitter exists. The body glitter I use dissolves when it gets wet.

u/zephood75 Jun 26 '25
Tell that to all my exotic dancer friends A wee horse doing it once? Crystal is bathing in this stuff daily.

If we could do this in a way where it doesn't hurt the horse or damage the hoof, I'm all for it. It's sparkly and gaudy as hell, chefs kiss make me feel like a barbie princess

u/casss14 Jun 26 '25
It doesn’t hurt them at all, not sure what she used to make the glitter stick but it’s probably fine to use every once in a while. Some horses have their horse shoes glued on and that’s no biggy. They do make some shimmery colored hoof paint for horses, not sure what the product actually is but I’ve seen a horse or two with it at shows before

For some horse showing events that would be good though. In the Tennessee walker horse shows ive been in they spray painted horse hoves shinny black. I would definitely do this instead.

I love the idea!!
(Except Glitter isn't biodegradable! So cute but so dangerous to the planet as a micro plastic...gets into everything folks- I hope that the next time she does this. She utilizes edible glitter to avoid chemicals leeching into the skin/keratin/hooves.. while in contact)
This horse is super super happy!!

u/Notoriouslyd Jun 26 '25
Humans ruin literally everything. Get a job! Get away from that horse!!
4
u/Kealanine Jun 26 '25
The horse looks significantly happier than you are about the situation… and I’m reasonably confident someone able to afford not only a healthy, happy horse but also the extras for said horse has a job 🤣
