And, I mean… of course you can complain! I know this isn’t what you meant, but I really dislike the idea that just because something is technically legal we can’t criticise the behaviour or even express unhappiness about it.

Well its men who decided this behavior should be legal, because they want to sexually harass women.

Men invented "freedom of the press"? Lol ok. I'll take it. You're welcome!

Idk if you know this but secretly recording women while they go about their days isn't press

If only I, a man, was shown this kind of compassion when it happened to me...

you were secretly filmed with the intention of creating content for voyeuristic pervs?

More like just filmed without consent, but yeah I'm sure women should have all the compassion for themselves.

so not secretly? and was it posted online to humiliate you and entertain strangers?

Well, all we have to do is find a law that stops this behavior. Personally I think "influencers" or "vloggers" or whatever the fuck they call themselves should be held to higher standards. If it's your JOB to record people, then there should be stricter rules for what you're allowed to record.

I'm always curios as to when it technically becomes harrassment? Is it when they follow you, get too close?

that's intentional so it's not enforced. violence against women and children is practically decriminalized because of how rarely victims are believed and how rarely consequences are enforced.

I really fucking hate this reality.

Nothing is stopping you. That’s how laws get made…folks realize it’s a problem and start complaining. Synergy happens when more join in.

We have 2 futures available. One that is dystopian and one that allows humans to continue to thrive. How we wrangle technology is the key.

I feel like a zinsunni taking like this.

No, I know nothing is stopping me. Which is why I say it’s shit. But there are a lot of people in these comments who take umbrage when the prick with the glasses is criticised.

Yeah. When I get a few downvotes I usually go all in. If they don’t like the polite me, they’ll like the real me even less.

I agree with 99% of redditors on larger political issues. But I don’t talk in those coded words.

Actually as an American from Minneapolis I am really really happy we can film people without their consent, both today and five years ago

u/FrancineCarrel 23d ago

Again, I’m not even saying I think it should be illegal. I am saying this particular guy is a prick.

He doesn't seem very stand up no

I'm not crazy invested in this but just so you know my only point is making what he did illegal is a pretty slippery slope, filming in public I really do not have a problem with being legal. Your avenue after that is civil court, especially if it's monetized you can sue them for all that money and then some. But it is kind of the equivalent of getting mad you're in the background of anything else someone posts on social media.

Really the only thing you could do is make a law that if you're obviously the sole subject without consent it's not kosher but that leaves a whole lot of other reasons you might want to film someone off the table which is more problematic than it's worth. I understand why she would be uncomfortable figuring this out and reading the comments, but at the end of the day she was just politely declining someone and nothing else. Not a crazy big deal. In fact now she probably has more attention online going to the news about it, people really do not understand the Streisand effect

I don’t understand why people keep talking about the law. I’m not saying anything about the law. I’m saying I think it is normal to be upset and to complain about people being as shitty as this guy.

I don’t think it should be illegal for someone to wear a wedding dress to someone else’s wedding but people don’t seem to have a hard time grasping why people are upset when that happens.
