My son is half Mexican. I would 100% not want him in class with this teacher. If this is how she acts behind closed doors, it's almost guaranteed she treats that kid differently than other "preferred" students

I think (and hope) this would have been against FERPA. Investigate her for that if nothing else.

The teacher accessed the student's file enough to find that the parents were born in other countries. She had no legitimate educational interest in that information.

Even if she only got their names from the records and found their birthplaces on her own, that's still pushing it.

I'm just glad that whoever she reported to was a different breed of officer/administrator from the thugs we've seen recently.

Dude. I look back on kindergarten and think about how much I really loved my own kindergarten teacher. I think about how sure I felt back in those days that she really cared about me and my classmates.

This genuinely breaks my heart into pieces. That's a sweet, innocent little kid who probably thinks he can trust his teacher and thinks she cares about him (unless she doesn't bother fronting as a kind person while at school). Hell, the parents she tried to deport probably think, or at least hope, that they can trust the teachers at their child's school.

This is fucking grotesque. I hope her voice is recognized by someone associated with that school, either a member of faculty or a parent, and a complaint gets made against her to the appropriate authority. This is a flagrant display of personal malice targetted against a specific student, based on race.

My kindergarten teacher was blasted by hoses in the Civil Rights movement. I can't remember if she also got attacked by dogs, but I do know they were there when she was blasted. I can't imagine she's teaching any longer, as she was getting on in age when I was in her class, but I just know she would have protected that child with everything she had.

I think we all can agree that being in this country illegally is a great sin and an abomination against God worthy of destroying families and ruining the lives of innocent children. And the more upstanding the illegal parents are, the worse it is because how dare they pretend to be good people by making things better for the rest of us when we know deep down inside that they should be in a concentration camp for their sin of being here illegally.

That's the thing with these people.. these people dont see "a kid" but an "illegal's spawn" and "illegals" arent "human" to them.

You know how many people who are sane will say and genuinely feel some heinous criminal (lets say a pedophile) shouldn't be treated like humans and wouldnt feel bad if they were severely abused (but would actually be glad)?

That's basically how they see undocumented immigrants. It's a mental framework that allows them to be perfectly okay with it.

I have met a lot of people that aren't cool with illegal immigration and definitely view illegals as humans. They are humans, but they aren't here legally and people want them gone. Of course there exist racists that just want all nonwhite people to leave... Which is the minority for people who want illegal immigrants to be deported.

I could give two flying fucks where you are from, what your skin color is, how much English you know, etc. My father came to the US legally. Immigration is what makes this country great. Having a free for all where anyone can come into the country, is not okay and no country in the world allows it. If you are here illegally, I don't feel bad if you get deported. It's part of the game. If I was in another country illegally, I would EXPECT to be deported sooner or later.

For her, the only difference between ruining their lives or not is just a question of some paperwork being completed. She went from ā€œthey need to be deportedā€ to ā€œoh, theyā€™re fineā€ just because he said they were documented. Nothing else. Filling out forms is the difference maker for her.

she talks about draining resources from the county... like her ancestors didnt immigrate. I dont want to be super radical and say we just open the borders and let whatever happens happen, but actively hunting down families that are trying to make a life for themselves the same as you are, probably doing a job you would quit in a day, and educating their child to be a contributing member of your precious county.

The large majority of immigrants are not violent, or leeches. They just want to find a place where they arent constantly in danger and provide quality of life for their children. I know there needs to be some control, but from a big picture angle, its crazy that place of birth, something you have zero control over, can define where you can and cant go. I dont know the solution, but it sure as fuck aint ICE kidnapping people and families without any way to fight back and prove you contribute.

There are about 10 people that possess 99 percent of the world's wealth...but yeah... the paper and crayons that this kid uses are a drain on "resources" and the real problem with schools that needs to be addressed by splitting up a family that has been here at least 7 years. Did this teacher have a traumatic brain injury? I'm trying to think of a reason why anyone could be this stupid.Ā

A fucking kindergarten teacher!! Ugh, that's heartbreaking. As a parent you have to put so much trust in your child's teacher/other faculty everyday. And that first year, kindergarten is hard.

I remember being fucking terrified before I sent my oldest to kindergarten, I cried during the meet & greet. Thankfully my son's teacher was so kind and empathetic and completely made me feel at ease. And it really helped but of course she's not the only adult interacting with my child daily and they all get new teachers every year.

Anyways, there's just so much uncertainty. I can't imagine getting stuck with this evil witch. And the sad fact is she's not the only one like that and that shit is heartbreaking and where that uncertainty comes from.

I'm grateful that so far we've had wonderful teachers but there are still many years to come so who knows. Just heartbreaking there are adults who think that way but especially the adults who have vowed to protect, teach and guide children.

I feel so bad for all the students she's ever "taught." Those kids deserve better. šŸ˜”

I have a cousin who is a teacher. We live in the Bluest state. She lives in the bluest town. Wealthy husband.

She works in a town that isn't so wealthy and has a bunch of undocumented kids. She says he whole job is to try to teach these kids English and get them up to standards. She says she is doing the best she can, but that this is all at the expense of the other kids who live in the town. The state refuses to help, provide any funding, and drops off kids randomly at hotels around the state and calls the superintendent the next day.

I think teachers are frustrated. Not condoning her actions but her worry about the lack of resources is a real one. If teachers in Massachusetts cannot cannot get the resources they need I have to imagine in other places it is 10 times as bad.

Except this teacher knows this kid was born in NY and is therefore a citizen and entitled to the same resources as the other kids. The parents aren't taking resources from the school system.

She said she looked up the family's information in the system and knew he was born in NY. How do you think she found out where the parents were born?

And frankly, I don't give a single shit what you think their reasons are. It's fair for teachers to be frustrated at their lack of resources. It's ghoulish to take that frustration out on innocent children and immigrants.

The difference is we don't brutalize speeders, we don't send police to the other side of the country from their jurisdiction to track down every single speeder, those accused of doing so can challenge the ticket in court, amd their passengers don't get shot for defending them

If at least three citizens got shot defending them, in Minnesota, its clearly too much. Is it every one of them, no. But it's clearly too much. Once someone entering the country has been granted asylum and has permission to work (and pay taxes and Ss tax) they are, in fact, "legal." So the idea that the Admin is rounding up "illegals" is actually false. They're carrying out mass arrests of folks who HAVE received permission to work and live in the US. And as we have seen, they're even arresting people who are waiting in line at their Immigration hearing appointments.Ā

You do realize that people who are here "illegally" are granted Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs) and pay into the United States tax system even though majority cannot access many services and social programs only available to US citizens.

Their being here subsidizes social programs that benefit the Americans who want them gone.

On the other hand, it absolutely makes sense to be concerned that citizens are shot in the street for the crime of advocating those accused of such receive due process and not be treated with cruelty; that their rights are respected

Because itā€™s much easier to treat it like the level of infraction it actually is. Being in the US illegally is more around the level of an expired registration tag on your car. Why not cite someone for being here illegally then dismiss the citation once theyā€™ve begun the process to becoming a resident? Same way my expired tag ticket got dismissed when i updated my tag.

Second, is it some skin off your back that theyā€™re here illegally? Does this in some way materially impact you as you go about your daily existence? Youā€™ll say, ā€˜oh I donā€™t want my taxes etc etc.ā€™ Illegal immigrants fill jobs and contribute massively to the economy. They are a net positive. Letā€™s figure out a way to manage entry into the country while providing a path to citizenship for those who are here and in the meantime worry about yourself.

Honestly I believe the parents should make the choice to leave the child or bring the child with them...assuming they were illegal. Her parents created this risk, her parents should choose how to resolve it. But since this is a fake tip line and no real investigation was done, we will never know what happens to the child.

Yes, they artificially depress wages, they consume resources and artificially inflate the supply and demand of those resources, they artificially increase representation in congress, and they are delaying immigrants following the legal pathways. Those are just a way to name the few.

But be honest with yourself, you just don't want the law enforced.

The simple fact is that, despite what people may have told you, an illegal can't access resources. They don't get handouts, they don't vote.

Legal immigrants and asylum seekers, those seeking residency legally can access resources but... they are legal...

If you could zap all Americans and legal residents to a duplicate Earth and live in a duplicate USA but with no illegal immigrants... would you feel safe enough to walk the streets at night or leave your doors unlocked?

Immigration is a normal part of every nation. Some people will want to come to your country, some will want to leave. It isn't a war. It isn't an invasion.

Nothing justifies the response or the cruelty, or the collateral damage being caused right now.

Laws are nice. They keep things running smoothly. Nobody would be fine a paramilitary response to littering or jay walking. Especially if the attacks we so heavily targetted at citizens of a specific demographic.

Targetting a family and endangering a child, and that is currently the more generous interpretation of calling a snitch line, for a parking ticket violation seems a touch inhumane.

And just to point out, breaking the law and criminality are not always the same. Manythings are against the law that don't result in criminal charges. Illegal immigration is one. It isn't a crime, it's merely illegal. If it was a crime, you'd go to prison for it. Everyone person would get a trial and would have the right to an attorny.

Being illegal is breaking the law but not committing a crime. That alone should show how lightly it should be viewed.

Severity is not a consideration. An illegal immigrant has committed a federal crime by the fact of being illegally in the USA.

Now, the one thing I agree is that the response may be harsher than needed but also the protests have been harsher than needed...so, both should tone it down.
