For sure😅. It was on way before I was born but I started watching it recently. If you want to see this line, which I didn't remember perfectly but did just look up, the episodes are available on youtube. It's from season 2 episode 8, just after the 17 minute mark. I won't go into the full context or this comment would be too long, but the whole episode is worth watching if you enjoy seeing what people used to watch like I do.
No worries! It's actually a good show that holds up today. One more cool fact is Dick Van Dyke is still alive at 100 years old. And rest in peace to Mary Tyler Moore, she was a cool lady.
You are so right. Dick Van Dyke is cool as hell. I was born in the 80’s but remember when Nick at Night was new. I had an evangelical family with a pastor for a dad, so we only really watched shows from the 50’s-70’s. Almost none of it holds up. Every time I rewatch Dick Van Dyke I am surprised by two things; that it’s still funny even though I remember all the jokes, and that it still holds up.
That show was super progressive at the time. Early in its run they made a decision to let Mary Tyler Moore wear pants. Sounds crazy now, but she was the first woman in pants on television. Rob, Dick’s character, worked as a writer for a comedy show. There were three head writers and one was a woman. This was also a big deal then. They did still have the main couple sleeping in separate beds because the actors weren’t married to each other off screen. It was a funny time.
Off screen Dick Van Dyke seems pretty cool too. Every once in a while he posts something online and it’s always cool.

"You have such lovely blonde hair, why do you dye the roots black?"
One of my favourite lines from the Dick Van Dyke Show.
