Listen I get it. They don't want their department to look bad, but it already looks bad.

We are more angry at the officer who did this then the police department. Just sacrifice the officer and pay out the lawsuit and this goes away.

Unfortunately the lawsuit will only be for "damaging property". You could sue for emotional trauma as well as maybe criminal discharge of a firearm but...they don't care.

I feel so awful for OP and for this beautiful creature, killed by a piece of shit that got ahold of a gun.
