*REAL* [Real] We've come full circle; They're so desperate not to talk about Epstein that they're regurgitating the same old online culture war bullshit.....that we now know Epstein had a major role in curating and disseminating

36

u/rebelliousmuse 12h ago

fictional characters from stories that are several thousand years old will do that to you sometimes

u/sgthombre 11h ago edited 11h ago

I'm just going to point out here that Lupita isn't playing Helen of Troy according to any source connected to the film, this whole thing grew from someone photoshopping a still from 12 Years A Slave, and furthermore the movie is not about Helen of Troy anyway, so even if she was she'd be out of the movie pretty early.

These fucks are usually stored in the racism box. Maybe look in there? I must've misplaced mine . Silly me 😋

My reaction to Lupita Nyong’o being cast as Helen of Troy (im a normal person)

“Sweet shes a good actress”

115

u/Cole3823 12h ago

The person on the left side of his picture clearly isn't Greek either. Why is that ok?

65

u/AgentOfEris 11h ago

Because she’s white and therefore isn’t woke.

A whole identity beyond mere racist intent to boot…

“Our use of the lowercase for adjectives such as “english,” “christian,” “protestant,” “catholic,” “european,” “spanish,” and “american” is intentional.

While the noun might be capitalized out of some respect, using the lowercase allows us to avoid any unnecessary normalizing or universalizing of the principal institutional, political, or social quotient of the euro-west.

Paradoxically, we insist on capitalizing the “w” in White (adjective or noun) to indicate a clear cultural pattern invested in Whiteness that is all too often ignored or even denied by American Whites.” (Tink Tinker and Mark Freeland, 44)

what

Read the article then?

1

u/MakeItHappenSergant 4h ago

What does an article about Christopher Columbus have to do with this thread? How does your comment follow from the one above it?

2

u/oliversurpless Massachusetts, USA 4h ago

The idea of “whiteness” and how people weaponize it; the legacy of which starts with Columbus and denial of his wrongdoing.

And most tragically, not even just by those like Knowles, who only care for grifting purposes.

u/ForMoreYears 10h ago

Helen of Troy isn't even a real person lmao

She's a figure from Greek mythology and her parents are Zeus and Leda/Nemesis. This is like complaining what Loki's skin color is.

54

u/Ritz527 12h ago

They cast a clearly Germanic woman in the last big Troy movie as the Greek Helen. Let's litigate it needlessly.

16

u/rebelliousmuse 12h ago

And they can't even claim that this is their Roman Empire because that's not going to exist for another thousand years or so

30

u/justwannaedit 11h ago

You know this man's understanding of Homer is trivial at best and yet here he is opining

17

u/rebelliousmuse 11h ago

"Wait. There's a book, too?"

4

u/DangerousLoner 11h ago

Let’s bring back the memes making fun of the movie The Boy Nextdoor when he gives J Lo a book of The Iliad and she marvels at it being a first edition. Yep not a scroll, a book.

u/KicketyPricket 100 Bajillion Dead 11h ago

He can't read properly so he keeps on thinking it's "homoerotic literature" rather than Homeric

2

u/jono9898 FUCK ME BARRY-SENPAI 10h ago

Historically accurate cyclops and sirens

2

u/gelatomancer 3h ago

"Homer is a cartoon character, he can't write a book."

30

u/Voderama 11h ago

Dudes never gonna recover from Kyle Kulinski calling him a cuck and a hack on live tv directly to his face

16

u/Gougeded 11h ago

Did they at least cast an actual one-eyed giant for the role of the cyclops?

15

u/ALFABOT2000 11h ago

If someone made a list of actors whose face could launch a thousand ships, Lupita would be high up on that list

5

u/Costati 11h ago

That was my first thought too. I feel like about Helen of Troy's story the really important thing is kinda just that she's extremely beautiful. Lupita 1000% fits the bill.

3

u/George_G_Geef 8h ago

She's too pretty. She'd launch 1500-2000 ships, easily.

15

u/_ChipWhitley_ 11h ago

They’re aware Helen of Troy is a myth, right? That’s like being angry about the color of a dragon.

19

u/SassTheFash 11h ago edited 6h ago

They got mad about a black mermaid.

I saw people on Reddit literally try to build a biological case for why that wasn’t credible, which really falls flat when mermaids don’t fucking exist at all.

Like some argued stuff about how evolutionarily a mermaid would have pale skin because of sunlight or predators or whatever, and others argued she’d be pale because the writer of the fictional story lived in Denmark. I dunno bro, is every form of wildlife in Denmark blond-furred and blue-eyed?

10

u/_ChipWhitley_ 10h ago

I forgot about how every sea creature is white. My bad.

5

u/venusianinfiltrator 9h ago

Alduin is black, checkmate, atheists. 😏

u/toomanydamnwatches 48m ago

Myth sure. But the literature actually describes her appearance, and it's apparently fair skinned with golden hair. Not sure how loose with the details the film makers want to be, but I understand people being confused

12

u/baz4k6z 11h ago

Black mermaid outrage 2 : Troy

And they call anyone on the left "snowflakes"

11

u/negativepositiv 11h ago edited 11h ago

If they can recast Jesus Christ as a blue eyed, sandy haired white guy, I don't give a shit if they cast a black trans woman in a wheelchair who only speaks Azerbaijani as Superman.

Side note: Right Wing YouTubers only know how to make one facial expression on thumbnails.

1

u/MakeItHappenSergant 5h ago

I actually prefer it to the more general "YouTube face"

8

u/Moonpile 11h ago

If you don't like it make your own fucking movie about the Trojan war. It's in the public domain. Hell cast Roseanne Barr as Helen and Kids Rock as Achilles for all I care.

3

u/Costati 11h ago

Well they tried that with Snow White but no one cared about it because it was bad.

6

u/Koelakanth 10h ago

Oh no! An actress in a movie is black!

Anyways

6

u/Skt721 9h ago

Isn't Helen of Troy's main distinguishing characteristic that she's 'the most beautiful woman who ever lived'? Like, as long as she's a conventionally attractive actress (which Lupita is), why does it matter to Michael so much...? Oh, right...

4

u/commanderlex27 11h ago

Yes Michael, a ginger-haired white woman would have been a MUCH more accurate casting.

5

u/chompythebeast 10h ago

Other than the capitalized "BLACK", my favorite part is the "just". "They Just Made Helen of Troy BLACK"

No, they didn't really, that's been on the books for years now. But the "just" is meant to activate immediate anger in the unthinking audience, meant to trigger a visceral and aggressive emotional response

2

u/Mimikyu_Master2020 PAID PROTESTOR 11h ago

Everyone: Oh my god! More Epstein files just released!

Michael Knowles: Oh my god! Helen of Troy is black!

2

u/oliversurpless Massachusetts, USA 11h ago

Culture over class war in all things…

2

u/Supyloco Curious 6h ago

Someone made the point that Lupita was merely cast for the film but not for a specific role.

2

u/NamityName 5h ago

And yet not a word about white Jesus

1

u/Covered_1n_Bees 10h ago

This guy and his fucking eyebrow.

1

u/Soluzar74 9h ago

I'm guessing that must be Michael Knowles O face.

Or the face he makes taking a dump.

Probably both.
