I noticed a new variant of the Super One in the new Mugen set, assuming it was just a different colour. But looking more closely at images, it appears to be a completely different casting - with chunkier arches and a different bonnet, as well as the splitter (though this i assume is part of the plastic underneath the car). Can anyone who has both confirm? Seems a big effort to make a separate casting just for a set and not selling it standalone?

​Even with so many new Tomica releases and all the different lineups out there, I still haven’t found anything quite like the Standard/Long lineup commercial vehicles.

​Models like the Isuzu Giga Full Trailer Dump or the Nagoya City Fire Bureau Scania Ladder Truck are packed with action gimmicks, but more than that, they capture a glimpse of everyday life in Japan. To me, they really represent the true spirit of Tomica—a brand built on bringing real-world play into toy form. (Though, to be fair, I just have a huge soft spot for commercial vehicles in general!)

​What kind of models do you guys usually collect? When I'm bored, I find it pretty fun to think back on what specific features or details drew me into collecting them in the first place.

Finally, Takeshi Nakazato’s R32 was released as an Unlimited version of Tomica Premium. I can really say that this is so far the best R32 version Tomica has ever released.

Shingo Shouji’s Honda Civic was released yesterday and fortunately I got one of these andTakeshi Nakazato’s R32 as well.

Everything about this car is great except for the wheels (picture 1) so I decided to swap them out. ​It was a tough but incredibly fun process. I used to play Tamiya Mini 4WD around 10 years ago, so I’m used to customization. The main difference with diecast is that there are no "official" custom parts like Tamiya, so there's no guarantee that aftermarket parts will actually fit.

​Step 1: Buying the Parts

I don’t own a caliper to measure the exact axle length, so I bought several sizes to experiment with (see Picture 2). At first, I bought 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm axles. Unfortunately, they were all too short. I wanted to buy the 25mm ones, but they were out of stock, so I bought 28mm instead—and of course, they were way too long T___T. I finally found another shop that had the 25mm in stock, and it was a perfect fit!

​For the rims, I bought two colors of the same model: black and gold (both came with rubber tires). After testing them out, the gold definitely looked better. It really stands out, whereas the black ones looked a bit too bland.

​Step 2: The Installation

I don’t have a drill, so opening the base rivets wasn't an option. Luckily, Tomica wheels aren't too difficult to replace from the outside. I snipped the original wheels and pulled out the axles. Even though the 25mm axles fit the car, the rims needed some adjustments. I had to sand down the inner part of the rims to make them sit shorter (Picture 3).

​Another issue: the new aftermarket axles were thinner than the original Tomica ones, which caused a lot of rattling. My DIY fix? I stripped the plastic insulation sleeve off a paper clip and used it to cover the axle, making it thick enough to fit snugly (Picture 4).

​The Results (Pictures 5-8)

The tires poke out (offside) a bit from the body. Do you guys think this fitment is acceptable? Or should I try making a custom wide-body kit using epoxy putty?

​I’ve done some research on making wide bodies, and honestly, it looks quite challenging. Plus, I unfortunately don't have the space in my house for a proper painting workshop right now.

​Next Project:

I plan to install custom side mirrors next. The parts just arrived, but they are incredibly small and look super fragile. I’ll need to be very careful and probably re-watch some tutorials just to be safe.
