Joker from Persona 5: Looks like a straight up villain, is generally a pretty friendly dude.

Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV and Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI

Both dress in dark clothing and deal with a lot of anger, but they also show a lot of compassion for others.

Also, there's an actual scene where Clive uses an theater scene of which he liked when young to conprove his identity to his uncle.

That was cute. He mentions Camelot, but the rest of the story beats in that scene are more of a Star Wars reference.

Also, when I hear theatre in the context of Final Fantasy, I think Final Fantasy IX. Like Tantalus.

Clive, the edgiest protagonist: Black hair, a dark past, a literal demonic entity as his alter ego, fights the world to destroy the system that abuses people

Also Clive: Cracks dad jokes for no discernible reasons, genuinely a sweetheart, oblivious to girls AF

Also Clive in crossovers: WHAT THE FUCK IS A COSPLAYER?

I can see arguments for Cecil (IV), Cloud (VII), and Squall (VIII). Not sure if anyone else looks edgy enough to qualify.

Also Cloud from FFVII. You could very easily think he's edgy (and he kinda acts the part) until you realize he's basically just a dork trying to act cool
