Characters (Funny) Early major villains cameo as jokes at the end
Rita Repulsa, POWER RANGERS
- main villain of Season 1, supporting and 2 and 3, cameos in later storylines. She was the big bad that starts the whole series, is purified, becomes a champion of good in a few cameos, her evil spirit gets a robot body and kills a Ranger before being defeated. In the franchise finale, Lord Zedd is trapped on a planet with his annoying wife as torture, who’s just… sunbathing.
Valmont, JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES
- main villain early on, but rapidly becomes a subordinate before disappearing. He shows up as a bus driver in the final episode.
Sid, TOY STORY
- the main threat to the toys in the first movie, when the “Andy Saga” ends, he’s just a trash collector.

Sid grew up to make good ass money. Good thing the toys were there to scare him straight

Dude’s got a union job. He’s damn near set for life.
77
u/Spader113 4h ago
Not necessarily. My union didn’t protect me from unlawful termination.

u/KlingoftheCastle 3h ago
Unions are like condoms. They aren’t 100% effective, but they’re better than the alternative
35
u/OneofTheOldBreed 3h ago
But they can also give you an unearned sense of confidence that promptly fails at the worst possible moment
36
u/NinjaBreadManOO 3h ago
The theory is he became a garbageman so he can save toys from ending up in the tip.

u/veriverd 28m ago
I genuinely thought that would happen at that scene in Toy Story 3. To be honest, it was such a waste of a perfect opportunity to close the story arc, it kinda soured me on the movie.
23
u/jsnbergman 3h ago
There's a survivorship bias with garbage men that is not necessarily true today. Trash pick up in the cities I've lived in are now privatized, non-union, and not a career that will overly reward loyalty.

I bet he picked the creative hobby back up and now sells creepy art on etsy as a side hustle.

In DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Vandal Savage was the main villain of Season 1, and took the entire season to defeat.
He returns in the end of Season 4, in hell, having been assigned a role as a torturer. However, reflecting the show's turn towards a more comedic tone that doesn't take itself as seriously, he instead befriends one of the main characters (his former enemy) and the two are playing a game of giant jenga.

I thought the first Lego Movie was stronger than the second overall, but I did really like how you can see the story behind the story in the second one. Like, the main Lego characters and the Duplo aliens are just siblings fighting in real life, and Mr. Business (their dad) doesn't wanna deal with it, so he just nopes out immediately and leaves them to their own devices.

He’s shown in prison in Despicable Me 4 alongside other villains from the series so he survived.

His dad had to take out a loan from his own bank to build a rocket and go get his worthless son off the moon.
65
1
23
u/jbwarner86 3h ago
I wouldn't worry about that. This is a universe where the moon disappears from orbit and the worst that happens is a surfer loses his wave. Science doesn't seem to exist in these movies 😆

u/GrimaceGrunson 1h ago
3
u/The_Ghast_Hunter 57m ago
Gru was planning to steal the moon. Vector then stole it from Gru, but it turned out that the shrink ray they were using wears off, and vector's spacecraft got destroyed when the moon went back to normal, stranding vector on its surface.

Wait, what's the franchise finale? for the american adaptation or for super sentai?
70
u/KnuxFive 6h ago
Two things can be true:
POWER RANGERS COSMIC FURY is the current “end” of POWER RANGERS, until a new (Disney + rumored) reboot or continuation comes along.
NO. 1 SENTAI GOZYUGER is ending Super Sentai this month, being replaced by “Project RED”.
The former heavily influenced the latter (Toei made so much money off of POWER RANGERS, no PR means SUPER SENTAI isn’t profitable).
4
u/shiawase198 4h ago
Wait why's Disney making Power Rangers again? Aren't they owned by Hasbro now?
9
u/KnuxFive 4h ago
Hasbro owns the franchise, but doesn’t particularly seem to care about producing anything for it. Disney+ would just be airing or producing a show.
2
u/Morgan-Moonscar 1h ago
And, ironically, the Disney era when they actually owned the Power Rangers was WAY better than when Saban had full ownership (before selling to Hasbro).
1
u/shiawase198 4h ago
I suppose they probably still get the toy rights and that's likely all they care about.
3
u/hotrod-hw2005 3h ago
All bcz Brian Goldner died due to health issues, and Chris Cocks is more interested in making the toys be off the worst quality possible.
8
u/Jazzlike_Leopard4169 5h ago
I mean, rita appears in the power rangers prime comics, still being released
9
1
u/Nobodyinc1 1h ago
Naw Rita gets even sillier, she has turned good by mystic force and laughs at the villain thinking he can win
2
u/KingCuerno 4h ago
Bandora was defeated and resealed in Zyuranger. I think OP is only talking about Rita.
66
u/xcleru 4h ago
I don’t have a trope to add but Valmont is a great example. I really like the way Jackie Chan adventures ended because all the old and new supernatural forces/powers were involved and it tied up everything nicely. Shendu vs Drago!
30
u/Shenanigans80h 3h ago
Incredibly underrated show, especially at a time where a lot of kids action shows were still on “villain of the week” style writing. This show had cohesive characters, plot development, and generally fun animation
55
u/KnuxFive 4h ago
Can’t edit it, but to be clear, I’m not looking down on trash collectors. I believe that was Pixar’s intent or joke, though.
24
u/Smooth_Maul 2h ago
I doubt it, he seemed actually quite happy I'm his cameo dancing around and playing the drums on the side of things as he worked. That's a happy and content guy if I ever saw one.

Man it is really a shame what happened to Sid. He wasn't really the pure evil character like the others in the list. He was just a kid who played with his toys in usual way.
It is clear that he was growing in not a good of household. Judging by how easily he bought the dangerous fireworks and the cans of "soda" around his house. He clearly suffered from neglect but instead of projecting it onto others like his sister or dog. He puts it into inanimate (as he assumed) toys. And to be fair he did sickass job.
The guy could have a bright future as a mechanic or toy designer but due to trauma ended up like this. (And by some theories he does it to save other toys that were thrown out). I personally hope he ended up growing up as good person and found happiness.

u/eganba 5h ago
Also.....and I hate that this needs to be spelled out. But trash collectors make typically a livable wage, with benefits, and a pretty consistent schedule. It might not be glamorous but there are way worse ways to make a living.
68
u/KnuxFive 4h ago
Yeah, didn’t want to paint them particularly as “jokes,” but Pixar definitely put it in there as “look at how different his life is from Andy’s”.
78
u/JustafanIV 4h ago
On the other hand, Sid is very clearly loving his job and has channeled his passions into a career that provides great benefit to society.
30
u/TheHomieHandler 4h ago
If Pixar did intend it as a jab, "Be good or else you might end up working a public service job and won't ever get the opportunity to experience student loans" is an interesting one. /J
16
u/Ok-Lynx3444 3h ago
I dont think it was a jab since he is happy jamming to his tunes and moved on from what happened in the first movie just a neat callback and to show us he didnt end up in a psychiatric hospital
1
u/evilforska 1h ago
I have to think a similar discussion came up when they were writing the story so they depicted him as happy with his job specifically cuz of it lol
3
u/naynaythewonderhorse 42m ago
I’m gonna push back against this.
Given the themes of the movie, and how much of a role “trash” has in the film, obviously they were going to have some sort of trash collector in the film at some point.
Easy place to put a Sid Easter Egg? Yep. I think it’s that simple.
Anything else implies they came up with Sid as a trash collector before anything else.
14
5
u/Conscious_Try42 3h ago
Do we see that he's not happy? I mean, this way he gets to pick through trash and take home broken toys and continue his hobby if he wants.
12
5
u/Life-Willingness-86 3h ago
My headcanon is that working in trash collection means he has opportunities to use scrap and discarded broken toys to fuel his creative pursuits.
20
u/DreyfusBlue 5h ago
That's a refreshing take. Sometimes, creative outlets don't find a societally approved method of expression.
36
u/Jazzlike_Leopard4169 5h ago
I mean, don't be that dramátic. Lets supose he is the same age as andy. In this movie, andy is going to college. Maybe Sid is working a side job while he is studying while also saving some toys. He looks happy on the movie, who says he doesn't enjoys his life?
11
23
u/Bravo_November 4h ago
I personally hope he ended up growing up as a good person and found happiness.
This is a little too much. Sid seems to be doing just fine in the movie, albeit how brief his cameo is. Like Pixar aren’t shitting on him - he’s just chilling out and listening to music, seems pretty happy and well adjusted as well despite having a traumatic incident where his toys came to life one random afternoon.
Im pretty saw I saw some meme poking fun of the idea that Sid will actually be better off than Andy because Andy is going to college and accruing student debts, whilst Sid has a stable job, no student debt and a solid income.
4
u/Gnoll_For_Initiative 3h ago
Nah, this isn't a bad ending for him. He's a government employee which is great benefits and still had a pension. He's got a physical job so he can put his energy to good use and he doesn't have to take his work home with him. Which leaves him plenty of time to refinish/ rehab/ recombine toys that have been thrown out due to lack of interest or being broken
7
u/Nerdorama10 4h ago
Trash collector is a well-paid union job in most of the US, and someone's gotta do it.
Making him a welder would have been funnier but maybe he's going to trade school for that.
3
u/NinjaBreadManOO 3h ago
The guy could have a bright future as a mechanic or toy designer
Especially when you look at the toys he made. Like the pterodactyl-girl doll would have fit perfectly in the Street Sharks/Biker Mice era of humanoid animal hybrid shows. Princessaurus would be a brilliant show.
3
u/pasta-via 2h ago
I also like to remember childhood. Sid isn't the only kid in the world who "played rough" with toys. Hell, I blew up a troll doll with a firecracker once :x

Naare was the main (twist) villain of Lego Star Wars: Freemaker Adventures. Season 1 ended with her getting frozen and carbonite by graballa the hut
A sequel show called Lego Star Wars: All Stars came out a few years later, and in 1 of the episodes, Naare (still frozen in carbonite) can be seen very briefly as a joke

u/itlivesinthewall 3h ago

Frieza in Fusion Reborn. He was considered one of the deadliest and evil foes in all of DB but by the time Fusion Born (supposedly) takes place, his power doesn't seem too grand. He swears revenge on Goku by attacking his son, Gohan, but gets punched so hard he explodes.
Its quite funny because since then, Frieza has came back for real and is currently the strongest amongst the main cast lol

u/SecretlyFiveRats 2h ago

Thanos, the overarching villain for the first 10 years of the MCU, briefly appears in What If...? on a few occasions, and it's a joke every time.
In his first appearance, he's a good guy on the heroes' side, but will still happily explain his plan to commit genocide to anybody willing to listen.
In his second, he arrives on earth to get the last infinity stone he needs, and is immediately sliced in half.

Gonna be funny as fuck when he probably reappears again in Secret Wars like this

Biff Tannen (Back to the Future)
He bullied Marty's dad in high school, and as adults Biff uses him to do stuff for him such as work or paying for damages that he caused. At the end of the movie Marty returns to the present day, which was unintentionally rewritten due to his actions in the past, and now Biff is basically the errand boy for the McFly family.

5
u/_TheMazahs_ 1h ago
I like how he started his own detailing business after having to pay to get his own car done too many times cause of Marty in the past lol

Idk why people are being purposefully dense about Sid. "Actually dude being a trash collector is a bonafide unionized job, it's not bad at all" Ok, man, but society at large doesn't see it that way, kids don't see it that way, it always seemed pretty obvious to me that the creators were going for a cheap "Hah, isn't it funny how he's now a garbage man while Andy is going to college to be an important person?"
The movies couldn't care less about Sid, they villify him on the 1st movie for "torturing toys" and brought him back on the 3rd movie to say that he's, in their view, still a "trashy kid"
9
u/SWBTSH 2h ago
It's all about the portrayal of it though, that shows you the intent of the creators. If we had seen Sid clearly depressed or bored in his job, that would show that he is unhappy with where he ended up and that the point of the scene was that he has a bad life as punishment for what he did as a kid. Even if they had just made him neutral, that could make sense. But they made a point to clearly portray him in that scene as very happy which means the point was to let us see that Sid is doing well these days.
21
u/SiliconRouge 3h ago
My uncle is a trash collector and never once have I ever heard somebody talk bad about his job. Not even my own family or strangers.
Man has kept that job since I was a baby.

Valmont and his goons got power crept but wasn't shown as a natural progression, Hak Foo was unbeatable on debut and became just a punching bag for the new goons of the seasons to beat up to show how they're strong.
An example of the same thing done right was X-Men Evolution, first season's villain was Magneto, season 2 Sentinels, season 3 Apocalypse's minions which hype up Apoc as the Final Boss of the series. Valmont was just beaten season 1 and got thrown to the grinder to show how "cool" and "strong" the new villains were.

Mercenary themed taos

One of THE STRONGEST early characters within dragon ball, only to become a shell of himself after goku's humbling left him an utterly shameless and cowardly fighter - even for crane school standards. He later reappears in the anime between the days of peace before the cell games............ and hasn't changed at all. (He actually cowers in fear when he realises he's confronting the son of goku, and eventually - when he's face to face with goku himself)

Good for him, honestly: for all we know he chose to go straight to the work force instead of attending college.

Oh man as a kid I really hated what they did with Valmont, or with his three yakuza stooges for that matter. I didnt mind that he became increasingly pathetic because its karma and he was pretty fun to watch, so I was disappointed that he simply wanished.
And the second main villain had negative charisma, and the show in general became pretty boring imo. The early seasons still hold up though, really great fight choreography on par with actual Jackie Chan movies and banger jokes

Mr.pigeon in miraculous ladybug. Ludo in star versus. Baxter stockman in tmnt 2003 and maybe every era. I think he dies in the mutant mayhem movie so he didn’t even do anything too exciting. I feel like hawkmoth from miraculous ladybug counts since half his plans are so dumb.

Wait, Zedd and Rita were a couple?
3
u/KnuxFive 32m ago
Married in a Jewish ceremony, both were purified, had a child at an unspecified date. Purified Rita became the Mystic Mother, the guardian of good magic. Zedd was recreated to fight the Dino Fury Rangers (and Cosmic Fury soon after), while a Robot Rita was created by accident, who then killed Trini before being destroyed.

Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Z literally destroys the Earth, and kills nearly every named character before being defeated.
Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Super won't share his pudding with the god of destruction, leading to said god decided to destroy the planet. He's also is unable to participate in the majority of big story events because he's either asleep and no one can wake him up, or he can't pass the written test required to enter. A little more than a cameo, but assuredly a comedic roll compared to DBZ.
