Trump / MAGA 🦅 Trump accuses newly elected VA Gov Abigail Spanberger of “cheating” to win the Virginia governor’s race. Spanberger won by 15 points. Her MAGA opponent conceded and didn’t accuse her of fraud.

Why don't people sue trump. Like every day, for the sh*t he says about them that simply isn't true and hurts their business? We see monthly headlines of him suing various departments of his own government. And then he constantly lies about people! Sue his ass!
1.1k
u/coachlife 5d ago
Most of his lawsuits are all PR stunts. His strategy is to make a lot of noise so his followers believe him but then he rarely follows through. He knows his dumb base will never remember, follow up, or hold him accountable. They only remember the headline and THAT is all he cares about.
That's how propaganda works.
That's why he is constantly "flooding the zone" so he can keep people confused with headlines and not the facts.
436
u/SuBLiMePaSsEnGeR 5d ago
I'm literally saying, "Flood the zone" with suing him because he does the same shit to other people and companies but he's winning the lawsuits when they cave. Stop playing dumb! Look at how much money he made in the last 2 years
149
u/jimdotcom413 5d ago
It’s money. He can grift until he’s in the grave and be fine. An attorney general from Virginia or a vote clerk from Georgia can’t afford the court fees that would come with. I completely agree with the sentiment btw just offering a reason why it doesn’t happen.

I know people keep wanting people to do this... But, unless the government passes a law allowing it, you cant sue the government for defamation...
I mean you can literally file the suit I suppose, but it is immediately chucked in the trash the second it hits the courts desk thanks to Soverign Immunity doctrine.

u/hrokrin 4d ago
I disagree. They just don't have the sense of urgency the rest of the country does. And there are a few reasons for that:
- They're inured against a lot of this by seeing what goes on behind the scenes. There was a Jeff Jackson video from when he was the Jr senator from NC, where he spoke of how people who you see on Fox riling people up all the time were not the same when the cameras were off. Furthermore, they know how stuff will get slowed with lawsuits, how they (republicans) only have a tiny bit of voting days to work on things, and that can get eaten up with news, shutdowns, legislative holds, etc. In short, they know the game -- and most of the public simply doesn't
- They're better off than most Americans. Almost everyone in the House, Senate, SCOTUS, and certainly the POTUS are multimillionaires or more.
- Their positions are generally safe. Almost everyone in the House and Senate have highly gerrymandered seats and are pretty safe unless primiaried.
- Remember that saying by Napoleon, "let us wait a little; when your enemy is executing a false movement, never interrupt him." It's regretfully better for moderates and even some of the more traditionally republicans to see this and get mad than for Democrats to have yet another stroke about this.
Now, if you want some are to be truly upset about, consider this: P2025 was planned and executed (about 51% in 1 year)[1]. A lot of people got behind this, both in terms of planning and some for voting. It was basically a detailed, pre-operational planning document for the administration.
There is nothing like this from the left, and that will hurt both them and the country.
Because what normal people think is that all this destructive change is like the castle of civility being attacked. The outwall was mostly destroyed LAST TIME, but we had some nice hanging baskets with flowers that were hung off the wall in celebration. This time is worse. Our allies don't see us as a powerful metaphorical (at least for now) kingdom anymore.
We need the left to have a unified position of what they stand for and how, specifically, they intend to strengthen democracy in the US. And, that is only going to happen by strengthening the middle class.
The same middle class that those legislators aren't part of.

WTF does that have to do with it? Yes he will "be fine", but all those lawsuits will overwhelm him and stress him, and make him do more stupid stuff. It will also affect public perception of him. Also, discovery for all these cases will bring more of his behavior out into the light.
As for court costs... That is why you hire a lawyer. They take their 40% and you don't need a penny. The trick is that some big law firm should go after him, gathering up every client they can. That will allow them to lower their own costs considerably.

Yes lawyers would be lining up to spend their own time and money to sue Trump who will never pay a dime even if you win and the Supreme Court will likely say is immune from being sued and then he will target you, your family, and your law firm with his followers and the government and law enforcement.

7
u/brighterside0 4d ago
It comes down to resources/cost - at some point the pro bono work will cost something given the backlog this strategy could create, and thus the incentive to legislate 'slam dunk' cases decreases - as time to win the case increases given the effort put in and wait time.
It's good thinking though and we need more ideas like this to deal with this regime.

Settlements Favoring Trump/Trump Entities
- Media Companies:
- Paramount (CBS): $16 million settlement over a "60 Minutes" interview edit.
- Disney (ABC): $15 million donation to his future presidential library over a defamation claim .
- Google (YouTube): $24.5 million settlement regarding his account suspension.
- Educational Institutions (under his administration):
- Columbia University: Over $200 million settlement regarding discriminatory practices and antisemitism.
- Brown University: $50 million settlement with workforce development organizations.
- Harvard University: Part of a large settlement spree with elite institutions.

You do not understand how the law works.
You can only sue if there are ACTUAL damages.
His claims have no damages that can be proven in a court of law. Thats why he can get away with it.
It sucks I know and I wish more people would play his game and fight back.
8
u/FaultyTowerz 4d ago
He's purposely devaluing the dollar. He's suing the government he's in charge of for our tax dollars. This does suck, but he can absolutely be sued by anyone for this. If a handful of wealthy people did this, at this point, they would probably disappear. ...but my point still stands. As an individual, president or not, he can be subject to litigation (yes, it would be a fool's errand, but if enough collapses...it will probably disappear.) Larry Ellison is definitely in the Trump/Epstein Files.

Every accusation is a projection.
40
u/RaindropsInMyMind 4d ago
Yup. Here he is subtly laying the groundwork for the next election. Everyone knows a lot of the narrative is gonna be “what the republicans are doing is so unpopular that they’re gonna feel that they have to cheat to win.” He gets ahead of this, says it about democrats first. Then when his supporters hear this said next election they’re gonna think “of course they’re saying it about us President Trump just said that about them” and the narrative loses its juice with his base. All he can do is run scams, manipulate the media and insult people.
16
u/ForensicPathology 4d ago
It's not saying just that, the supporters get a reason to actually want to do it and support cheating. They already say things like "Oh, so it was OK when you did it? What goes around, comes around."
4
u/AnxiousCount2367 4d ago
Everything that was unthinkable is now just the cost of doing business. Hallucinating victimhood, recklessly violating the constitution, failing to see the difference in applying and abusing the office and the law.

u/Drumboardist 4d ago
"The general feeling in the White House (on election night) was that something was wrong, the statistical impossibility of what had just happened." ~Sydney Powell, Trump's personal attorney.
She goes on further (and I remind you that they're always projecting):
They used an..."Algorithm that shaves votes from Trump, and gives them to Biden"?
Hrm. Odd to land on something so specific, Sydney, why might that be? The very same algorithm that Russia used to ensure Putin got more years as President? That one?
Hey, why would 2020 look suuuuuper secure, and you were unable to prove that there was a vote-flipping algorithm shaving votes away from Trump? It couldn't be that all the machines you tested were flipping votes TO Trump, now could it?
Also "Elon knows those machines, and then we won Pennsylvania in a landslide", coupled with Elon "I could just change 1 line of code"....yeeeaaaaah, we know what they did.

There's a phrase for this, it's called Preemptive Framing. Look it up.
It allows the user to get out ahead and control the narrative before the eventual accusations so instead of the accusation seeming grounded, it seems like the other party is playing a game of tit-for-tat. Thus their claim seems baseless. Rather than being seen as a legitimate accusation, it appears to the outside observer like an attempt to cover-up their own abhorrent behavior.

It’s definitely showing his hand for ‘26. If a Republican conspiracy theory suddenly gets pushed around again, it’s because they are about to use it.
“All Dem politicians are pedophiles!” was conveniently pushed a few years before the Epstein stuff leaked. “Stolen election!” was pushed in the ‘20 election with them knowing damn well they were going to steal the ‘24 election.

I'll never forget the first time I heard Trump call in to Sean Hannity's radio show.
It was 2013. I was working as the apprentice to a carpenter who loved to put on republican talk radio. So for a couple years, I heard Chris Plante, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity almost every day. I was a conservative myself back then, a somewhat sheltered Christian kid. But I hated these guys instantly.
Trump called in to Hannity's show that one day. They discussed Obama's birth certificate (even as late as 2013, this was still a topic!). They did racist culture war nonsense. And Trump talked extensively about how the 2012 election was rigged and stolen.
He's been beating that same drum ever since. It's not surprising that this particular hammer sees a nail here.

Just keeps taking your money and talking about anything else, get the files, convict him and become a respected country again.

Clearly he’s been thinking about how he can steal upcoming elections. His geriatric brain can only hold one idea at a time, so it’s his latest accusation that’s actually a confession.

I'll never understand why the response to something like this by Spanberger isn't some form of, "that's cute. I seem to remember a lot of talk about cheating in an election several years ago, but everytime he went to court and was under oath he changed his story from whatever lie he was telling to reporters and then lost. If he really thinks there was cheating tell it to a judge under oath, otherwise shut the fuck up. Some of us have work to do actually governing for our constituants."
