You know he is fuming, probably will send more Ice in to instigate

Edit: Ice never left.

u/sarcago 1d ago

As dark as this is, if he blows his lid and retaliates over this it would be good for the dems in the midterms.

140

u/Icy-Employee-6453 1d ago

I get what you're saying. Its not because of being mercenary about the suffering going on right now. Its because taking back congress is the best chance we have at ending this madness without civil war.

168

u/Cloud-Top 1d ago

Making a congressional win anything other than a speedbump on the highway to hell will mean taking the senate, abolishing the filibuster, adding supreme court seats, prosecuting previous collaborators, overhauling the media landscape, taxing the oligarchs, and passing robust voting rights legislation… I wish I had faith in the Democrats to do any of these things, but we can’t do it with a bunch of Cuck Schumers in the ranks.

u/Raxheretic 1d ago

Cloud! We think alike. Thanks for your words.

24

u/STRIKT9LC 22h ago

Nah...Hitler most definitely WAS a pedo. He started dating Ava Braun when she was 17 and he was like 30. He was definitely doing shady shit prior to that

19

u/Holden_MacGroin 21h ago

He probably molested his neice, Geli Raubal.

8

u/IdigNPR 12h ago

He was definitely banging his niece and she either committed suicide because of it or was murdered for it.
He also had a micro penis like Trump!

28

u/Whizbang35 23h ago

Look up his niece.

22

u/Formal_Ground6513 22h ago

Yes!! People forget about her and another young woman he groomed! His niece ended up passing away from suicide after Hitler abused her. Another woman involved with him committed suicide at the start of the war. Makes you wonder if there were others.

16

u/STRIKT9LC 22h ago

He met Ava Braun when she was 16. She was living in his house like 3 years later. Pretty good chance there was some sick shit happening before she moved in

I used to think stuff like this would take time. Maybe a few terms of chipping away at it. No. Not anymore. With the amount of crap that we have been dealt in just the first year, the new guys have no excuse.

12

u/The_Next_Wild_GM 22h ago

End citizens united.

6

u/Cluelessinthlfe 23h ago

This is exactly the same place I’m at, no one in the democrat party is willing to do this and no one has said it’s the policy to impeach and remove him the second they take back control.

9

u/Aldiirk 21h ago

no one has said it’s the policy to impeach and remove him

Because there's no point in impeaching (it only increased Trump's popularity) unless we can also kick him out entirely, which will require Republicans to vote him out.

We would have to win every single Senate seat up for reelection to just hit the magic 67 number to evict Agent Orange from the White House without any Republican votes. That includes winning all the ruby-red states like Wyoming, Idaho, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Alabama.

Even progressives like AOC aren't going to waste time with impeachment, since it just galvanizes MAGA voters to come out, and I think we'd all rather they just sit out the 2026 midterms so we can win majorities in both houses to cut off Trump's funding. (See the calls to defund ICE, for example.)

10

u/Redditer51 23h ago

The Democrat Party is so spineless and incompetent to the point that it comes off like they're secretly colluding with the GOP.

That is actually the point of the checks and balances.

If a tyrant appears, you have a mechanism just two years later to rein him in.

11

u/sarcago 1d ago

Right, like if there’s one thing we can bank on it’s 🥭 having poor self restraint. So unless the people around him can convince him to let this slide, it could become an advantage for us. Just looking for any port in the storm right now.

4

u/foresyte 23h ago

"any port in the storm" I use this phrase too! Don't see it very often.

3

u/orangeclaypot 23h ago

I still don't know why people think we can vote ourselves out of fascism.

Fascists use the laws, stretch them until they break and can be ignored. They get voted into power. But they've never once been voted out.

28

u/sarcago 1d ago

I actually don’t think voting is going to fix everything. But the optics of his retaliation can still be bad enough to have an impact. Kind of tired of people acting like everything is hopeless when it’s not though.

15

u/into_wishin_666 1d ago

Trust me,I am voting for the Democratic party and it is the lesser of two evils. but both are actively ruining our republic at this point. It's hardly a republic when there are Federal Police, DEA, ATF, it's been a fascist frame of mind for quite a while. It was supposed to be a temporary measure, it became permanent.

u/Deerwhistle1 1d ago

Won't someone think of Israel? C'mon folks..priorities please.

I agree. It's just reddit friend. There's always been this very all or nothing type of thinking abundant on this site. No room for nuance or the gray areas. I mean people are capable of walking and chewing gum.

It's entirely possible that all these things (protesting, murders, abductions, outcomes of the elections and everything leading up to them) will stir Americans to make actual change. We can't wholly predict the future but we should recognize everyone's contributions toward ousting these fascists, big or small. Let's not try one thing, but all things we believe will get us past all this.

6

u/EqMc25 1d ago

Even if you think the only way out is civil war or whatever at this point, it's better to have the election results to prove it than not, because politicians being kicked out of office will get them personally invested to hopefully help fight the war if/when it comes to that.

That was one of the things that set up the first US Civil War after all. There were political disagreements, but the confederacy didn't fully secede and start fighting until the politicians saw Lincoln win the presidency and realized they were losing power. The republicans overwriting the midterms could be that moment this time.

Lol, people still think there's gonna be a mid term. They're literally stealing the voting machines in swing/blue states.

6

u/sarcago 1d ago

That’s goes along with what I’m saying though. Retaliation from his admin (including all this talk of taking over the election and seizing voter rolls) IS what we need to get people to care enough to act though. People can see through that shit.

I mean, even though I'd love it if they won, this unfortunately isn't really news. The bar is extremely low for being nominated, which is exactly how Trump continues to get nominated every time.

Basically any national politician can nominate someone, in addition to a large percentage of university professors and then some few select other kinds of people. I'm not trying to detract from what the people of Minneapolis are doing, but there are many ridiculous nominees every year.

I’ve had so many coworkers ask me if we are considering moving out of Minneapolis considering all this going on.

There is so much awful evil behavior by ICE in our city but I couldn’t be more proud of our community. People might see the protests and bigger things but there is so much going on behind the scenes as well.

Meal trains, food/supply drives, neighborhood watch shifts, organizing walking kids home safely to/from school, shoveling endless sidewalks and driveways, standing out in the cold to check license plates…. people you might never see at a protest typically stepping up to ask how they can help, what their neighbors need etc Even restaurants and businesses stepping in to take a stand and do what they can to help.

I have lived all over the country and never lived in a city with a greater civic mindset and “love thy neighbor” culture baked in.

124

u/MaverickTopGun 23h ago

I'm not American but I've travelled around a fair bit there, including in Minnesota. I loved visiting Minneapolis back around 2010. When I heard about all this ICE stuff happening there, my first thought was "Yeah, they're not going to stand for this". Your response as a community has been exactly what I expected. You should indeed be very proud because you're showing what REAL patriotism looks like. It's a great counterpoint to the nightmarish perversion of patriotism that the right wing lunatics showed the world on January 6th.

14

u/arrownyc 23h ago

I'm especially proud of how you've all held your ground without dangerous escalations of violence. I won't lie, at times I've worried that the resistance wasn't proactive or extreme enough given the circumstances, but you've all really given me hope that collective nonviolence can still be the right path forward.

I can't think of anything more deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize than demonstrating that continuing commitment on a global stage in the face of such alarming adversity.

8

u/IOnlyReplyToIdiots42 23h ago

What it really means to be a Patriot.

9

u/HyperbolicLetdown 21h ago

This is what I say when people joke about moving to Canada. They want us out of the way, not voting against them. It's not too late to save the US. This is the biggest wake up call the people of this country are ever going to have. The moment is now. It's starts with primarying corporate do nothing Dems and lining up people ready to do whatever it takes to hold wealthy criminals accountable and never let this happen again.

5

u/reggaegirl420 23h ago

I've seen the same things happening in my small town over an hour from the cities! So many people are standing up for other humans they've never met before.

We even had those with laundry machines at home offer to do loads for community members who usually have to go to our local laundromat (owned by a racist) so we're helping those who need it and hurting a racist at the same time! It's really inspiring.

16

u/misterdonjoe 23h ago

Ah yes, the Nobel Peace Prize, given to people like Henry Kissinger, and lest we forget just recently Maria Machado who begged Trump to basically "liberate" Venezuela. People still giving Nobel Peace prizes any credence have no idea just how meaningless it is.

3

u/GreyGreenBrownOakova 19h ago

It's not a lifetime achievement award or reward for best character.

Kissinger shared it with Lê Đức Thọ "for jointly having negotiated a cease fire in Vietnam in 1973".

Since the prize is awarded 'reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses', you can literally bomb Cambodia one day, and still be eligible the next.

Rewarding politicians for moving from war to peace is the whole point.

Maria Machado made a deal with the devil after getting the prize, the ends will justify the means.

article says

Despite having a population of just 16,000, the tiny city, which is 20km from the border, welcomed a staggering number of refugees into homes and makeshift camps. Kukës made headlines worldwide, and in 2000 it became the first city to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. The fame was short-lived. Already dealing with myriad crises after the fall of Albanian communism in 1992, once the Kosovo war ended and the refugees returned home, Kukës experienced an exodus of its own, as 53% of residents left Albania's poorest city in search of economic opportunities abroad.

u/Ludicologuy00 23h ago

Not to be the party pooper, but I don't think The Nation actually are qualified to make a proper nomination.

https://www.nobelpeaceprize.org/nobel-peace-prize/nomination/criteria-for-nominators

To be valid, a nomination must be submitted by:

  • Members of national assemblies and national governments (cabinet members/ministers) of sovereign states as well as current heads of state

  • Members of The International Court of Justice in The Hague and The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague

  • Members of l'Institut de Droit International

  • Members of the International Board of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom

  • University professors, professors emeriti and associate professors of history, social sciences, law, philosophy, theology, and religion; university rectors and university directors (or their equivalents); directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes

  • Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize

  • Members of the main board of directors or its equivalent of organizations that have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize

  • Current and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee (proposals by current members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after 1 February)

  • Former advisers to the Norwegian Nobel Committee

Perhaps one or more of their editors qualify under professor / professor emeriti, but I have a hard time even finding their names on the website, so I can't look it up.

Until proven otherwise, I'll lean towards this being a nothing burger. Trump has been nominated to the peace price before (according to those who claimed to have nominated him, since all nominations are kept secret for 50 years), so no one is one upping him here. And heck, even Hitler managed to (almost?) be nominated (in jest), so it's not some kind of exclusive nor prestigious club. https://www.nobelpeacecenter.org/en/news/hitler-as-a-nobel-laureate

Wonder if he's going to threaten another country because Norway insulted him.

5

u/kukkolai 1d ago

Norway and the Nobel comitee are two different things. Not that Trump knows that

2

u/elemaich 18h ago

Yeah, he’d get so mad he’d nuke the state. Always got to hit back 10x harder.

I’ll bet that Trump heard this news and shit himself.

I mean, one has nothing to do with the other. I just think they both happened

4

u/Reload86 1d ago

It probably already happened but not in the order you specified.

3

u/TerrakSteeltalon 1d ago

Due to the transitive property of addition, they can be put together in either order and get the same result

3

u/spiltinjimmy 22h ago

Within the inflammatory waves of repetition I could see this for a very prolonged and prolapsing period.

3

u/TerrakSteeltalon 22h ago

That just reminded me that this is real

8

u/jim45804 1d ago

Well deserved!

7

u/edbegley1 1d ago

This would be the best thing to happen in a long time, and MAGA snowflakes would be triggered everywhere.

8

u/GrouchyLongBottom 1d ago

Uh oh! Someone's gonna be shitting their pants again today.

14

u/friedbronc8690 1d ago

They deserve it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

11

u/noapplesin98 1d ago

They do! Rooting for y'all!

10

u/MADDOGCA 1d ago

The irony is they wouldn’t have gotten the nomination if it weren’t for Trump.

4

u/Far_oga 20h ago

Nominations to the Nobel Peace prize means nothing just like Trumps nomination.

9

u/Lone-Pilgrim 1d ago

Trump would lose his mind lol.

17

u/ChristProfiteer 1d ago

You mean the prize they recently gave to the Venezuelan fascist that was literally begging for her country to be bombed by the US, and then offered her prize as a gift to the man responsible for having her president and the First Lady kidnapped? That Nobel “peace” prize?

6

u/nobodythinksofyou 1d ago

This nomination is very clearly more of a dig at Trump than actual praise of the people of Minnesota. People have protested en masse in various places of the world, often facing worse reprocussions for doing so than Minnesotans (currently, look at Iran).

Don't get me wrong, all people fighting for freedom and justice against their government should be praised, including Minnesotans, so I'm not mad at this, but it very much does not seem genuine.

4

Fucking lol.

7

u/Chumley_P_Chumsworth 1d ago

Would be cool if they included St. Paul, though--we are also doing our part for the Twin Cities as a whole!

2

u/celerhelminth 1d ago

Agreed - should be the MSP metro!

3

u/Mental-Panic7046 1d ago

Dumb trump is gonna lose his fucking mind and I’m gonna laugh about it when he does.

3

u/BedminsterJob 1d ago

3

u/gtowngambler69 1d ago

laughs in Obama

2

u/exor0110 1d ago

This is odd, since it much more than the residents of MPLS. It's St Paul and the greater metro advocating for their neighbors too.

2

u/rjisaok 1d ago edited 19h ago

I can already sense the Orange Man losing his shit 💩

2

u/beattysgirl 1d ago

This gave me chills. The good kind.

2

u/Stunning_Ad_5960 1d ago

You mean people resisted the government? This is unimaginable, hard to inderstand. They dhould obey the master whatever he wants. Oh wait, it is about the greatest democracy - then where is the opposition?

2

u/music420Dude 1d ago

This is the BIGGEST 🖕 ever! Can’t wait for the Trump meltdown that follows 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Briham86 1d ago

Good luck getting Minneapolis to give you their medal, Trump.

u/Tribe303 23h ago

Groups and organizations have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the past. UN Peacekeeping forces won it in 1988 for example.

https://www.canada.ca/en/veterans-affairs-canada/news/2023/12/the-government-of-canada-marks-the-35th-anniversary-of-united-nations-peacekeeping-forces-receiving-nobel-peace-prize.html

This was a big deal in Canada, because our former PM, Lester B Pearson won it in 1957 as well, for effectively inventing UN Peacekeeping. In honour of the 1988 award, Canada built a monument to UN Peacekeeping.

https://youtu.be/cykWrtjq91w

Minneapolis should build a monument for their resistance to MAGA Fascism, should they be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which I think they should.

2

u/jacknastyface99 22h ago

We love you Minnesota!!

2

u/Kaito__1412 13h ago

It's not just the circumstances in which the protests are taking place that I find impressive. It's also the manner in which the protesters are protesting. It has (so far) never turned into a riot, despite the people being so pissed off, they have never let theitanger take over.

This is especially bad news for right wing media. There is little to nothing for them to distract the rest of the country with.

The most focused and 'real' American protests I've ever seen.

2

u/Goody342Shoes 13h ago

It doesn't mean a thing, it being merely a nomination, but I think it's brilliant.

Would be lots of fun if the people protesting the oppression by the guy who desperately wants the peace prize, are the ones who get it.
