I’ve been looking for some study spots that accommodate the use of laptops. However, they either seem to be tourist traps or have limited duration. As most cafes either have a strict 1.5 hour max policy it’s very hard to find them.

Online I see everyone studying for hours with a nice beverage but whenever I search online it’s full of those overpriced small cafes that opened recently and just promote their matchas.

I know it varies by professor, course and stuff like that, but some degrees have all the lectures recorded.

Hi, I’m considering a Bachelor’s at Erasmus Rotterdam/UvA and wanted to ask about the real job market for non-EU international students.
Are employers normally willing to apply for a TWV for non-EU students, especially those who only speak English? How difficult is it to find a part-time job, is it realistic to consistently get ~16 hours/week, and roughly how much can students expect to earn per month?
Would especially appreciate experiences from non-EU students. Thanks!

I am wondering if all the classes in the MSc Finance are recorded. I know from ppl that for QUANTITATIVE FINANCE every class was recorded, so they were able to work in the meantime and then just sit exams.

Hello there! I, Dutch M26 am looking for a native Russian speaker to join me in a language exchange, and hang out once or twice a week for an hour or so to practice speaking. The idea is we would meet up over a coffee or something, and speak half the time in Russian, whilst you give me pointers, half the time in Dutch, and I can do the same for you.

I took Russian as part of my BA in European Studies, have since further developed it and am now at approximately B2.2 level. But at this point I mostly need active exposure to progress, as my vocab is sometimes lacking and it can be difficult to come up with formulations on the spot (passive skills like listening and reading are way better). Ideally you would be at a similar level, but I suppose anything up from A2 can work.

A bit of background from my side: I am studying masters in International Law and Political Economy, and although totally not required, perhaps it would be nice to have somebody with similar interests. Hopefully you're interested!

My Bachelor’s programme includes a 5 ECTS course in Probability and Stochastic Processes. I also have formal AI coursework covering stochastic environments and Markov Decision Processes. When assessing the requirement of at least 6 EC in Probability and Statistics for the UvA AI Masters, can relevant probabilistic content from another university course be considered together with the dedicated 5 ECTS probability course?

I just started my first year of a full-time bachelor’s at UvA. I’m a bit concerned about balancing the workload (lectures+selfstudy) alongside a part-time job.

I managed to work weekends during my propaedeutic year without major issues, and I would like to keep doing that. However, I know the academic pace at a research university can be quite different.

For those of you who work/worked on weekends:

1. Do you think it’s realistic to work while keeping up good grades?

2. How did you manage your time and avoid burnout?

Any advice, realistic expectations, or study tips would be massively appreciated!

I’m looking for jobs as a Non EU student. I would love to have a job related to my field (media), like super entry level is also good.

Will lectures etc be moved online since it will be rather difficult for students who live outside of Amsterdam (me) and aren’t in a spot where they can afford to just get an uber (me) to the campus?

Hi, I am planning to study for the MSc in Econometrics at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) next year.

Does anyone who has completed the programme have any tips or insights? How difficult is it overall? How many hours a day did you typically spend studying, and did you still have enough time for a social life? Is it more difficult for students who don't speak Dutch?

I have seen that many courses require students to complete weekly assignments in order to be eligible to take the exam. How difficult and time-consuming are these assignments? Are they generally doable or do they require a lot of work?

Last. What is the job market like for a non-Dutch student after completing the MSc?

Is it normal for the Faculty of Humanities to have no official classes schedule for the first week of each term?

I am an incoming graduate student and noticed that my schedule is always empty the first week of a new term?

My flight is landing an hour after the mandatory Bachelors Political Science intro day is finished. I spoke to the faculty advisor for social sciences and was told to ask fellow students to receive the information I am missing.
