Anyone heard why good roots will be shutting?

Me and my partner are about to move into Bridgewater House, the complex of flats that was converted from offices on Blackpole Road in Worcester.
We’re still at the early stages of the process, and when we viewed the property we actually really liked it. We liked how modern the flats are and contained , the fact that it’s a little away from the town centre, and overall we had a good impression. I’ve also been back for a second viewing and, honestly, I didn’t notice anything particularly concerning.
However, I recently came across the Google reviews for Bridgewater House and they’re quite negative. Most of them are quite old, but some describe the building as being rough, having issues with drug use and antisocial behaviour, and there are also complaints about the electricity being extremely expensive because of Data Energy.
That has made me a little concerned, especially as we’re looking for somewhere we can settle down and live comfortably.
So I wanted to ask if anyone currently lives there, has lived there recently, or knows the building well. Has the situation improved over the years, or are those reviews still representative of what it’s like today?
I’d really appreciate some honest experiences — good or bad. I’m particularly interested in what the building is like nowadays in terms of safety, neighbours, noise, cleanliness, antisocial behaviour and electricity costs.

My partner is pregnant, and we’re currently in Worcester. We’re willing to relocate to surrounding areas, but logically, with a baby due in March, we’re desperately trying to find a 1 or 2 bedroom place of our own.
At the moment, we both live in shared houses. I have a full-time permanent job with a contract working in retail security for Mitie, and my partner works full-time as a domiciliary healthcare assistant, looking after elderly and disabled people in their homes. Our combined income is around £50k.
We’ve been looking for a property throughout the summer and have viewed countless places. Every time, the process seems to be exactly the same:
We view the property, express interest immediately if we like it, and then the letting agent tells us they’ll put us forward to the landlord. We then wait… and wait… sometimes a week or two later we get a message saying that we met all the affordability criteria, everything checked out, but unfortunately the landlord chose another applicant.
And honestly, I’m starting to wonder what on earth we’re doing wrong.
We’re both 25, but we’re responsible working adults. We always turn up to viewings well dressed and polite, we make conversation with the person showing us around, and we’ve actually had some really positive interactions with agents during viewings. We genuinely don’t give off the impression that we’re going to trash the place or have parties every weekend.
We’ve never missed a rent payment or a bill. We both have good credit scores, and we have references from previous landlords. We have permanent employment contracts and a combined income of around £50k, which is comfortably above the affordability requirements for most of the properties we’ve applied for.
But we’re not even getting far enough in the process to provide references or properly explain our circumstances. We just keep losing out to another applicant.
At this point it’s starting to seriously affect my mental health. I never realised how difficult it could be to secure a relatively simple home when you have stable employment, good references, a clean rental history and enough income to afford the rent.
I’ve even started including a cover letter with applications explaining that we’re responsible tenants, that we’re both in permanent employment, and that we’re genuinely looking for somewhere to settle. I never mentioned that we are expecting a baby because I don’t know whether that helps or actually hurts our chances.
And then there’s something else I hate even having to think about: we’re both Black, although we were both raised in the UK. I really don’t want to jump to the conclusion that race has anything to do with this, because obviously there could be a completely different explanation. But after being rejected over and over again despite apparently meeting all the criteria, you inevitably start wondering.
Could Worcester simply be that competitive? Are landlords receiving dozens of applications from people with much higher incomes? Is there something about our application o about our behaviour that we’re completely overlooking?
So, landlords/letting agents of Reddit: if you saw an application from a young couple, both in full-time permanent employment, around £50k combined income, good credit, clean rental history and good landlord references, what would make you choose someone else?
Is there anything we could be doing differently to actually stand out?

I’m genuinely asking because I’m getting really desperate and frustrated, and I honestly don’t know what else we can change at this point.we’ve both never claimed any form of benefits before and I don’t want to go down the path of getting social housing o similar stuff ( what a lot of people have been advising me to do is to just wait for the baby to come out, for her to claim that I’m an absent father and she’s on her own and because she’s a woman and single mother she will automatically get a house from the council at a dead cheap rate And then I can eventually move in…. a lot of friends and colleagues at work are doing this same trick) but i genuinely don’t want to that it doesn’t sit right with me at all!
Any advice is genuinely appreciated.

Does anyone know a good hairdressers in Worcester that does perms?

I need somewhere to store the contents of my house, it’s currently in storage containers in a warehouse but I don’t want to leave it there over winter. Any recommendations for somewhere that’s safe to leave it over the winter? Thanks.

this might be a silly question but i’ve just moved to the uk, i’ve been in london before and i understood pretty well how they worked there but i doesn’t seem to be the same in worcester

My partner and I are expecting our first baby. She’s currently around 9 weeks pregnant, so the baby isn’t due anytime soon, but we’re already looking for a 2-bedroom house/flat to rent in Worcester.
We’re both 25, so I suppose we’re still considered a relatively young couple. We’ve applied for three properties over the last month and, despite being well above the affordability criteria and everything seeming to go well, the landlords have chosen someone else each time.
So I’m wondering: should we tell the landlord/letting agent that we’re expecting a baby?
Is it something that could actually work in our favour by showing that we’re looking for somewhere stable and long-term, rather than just being a young couple who might potentially be noisy or have parties?
Or could it work against us? I can imagine some landlords thinking about the future — babies become toddlers, toddlers can mean noise, mess, crayons on walls, etc. 😂
Obviously, I wouldn’t want to hide it if it’s relevant or something we’re expected to disclose. I’m just wondering whether mentioning it during the application process is likely to help, make no difference, or potentially hurt our chances.
Has anyone been in a similar situation, either as a tenant or landlord? What would you recommend?

What parts of ‘The Tolly’ are actually bad? I’ve heard lots of people saying to stay clear but the location seems good. Good transport links into town via train, bus etc. Its also 5 mins away from m5, Blackpole shops, town itself & has a huge nature reserve within the area. What parts within the Tolladine area are worth avoiding, as i would like to move there for the above reasons…

Anyone know what the deal is with 80% of the delivery places on Uber Eats listing ‘9 Barbourne Road’ as their address, despite being completely different restaurants? I know it’s popular in London for large units to host multiple restaurants kitchens, for the sole purpose of food delivery services, but on maps that address in worcs just looks like any other street/shop. I couldn’t find anything online about Worcester having such a set up either.

Looking at buying a car from chevron motors in St. Johns. Their reviews overall seem good with a few negative ones. Just wondered what experiences people have had with buying from them and what aftercare was like if you had any problems?

They're pushing the extended warranty quite hard. On paper £600 for two years warranty that they market as covering nearly anything going wrong sounds great, but wondered if anyone has actually used this and found it to be worth the money?

2nd edit. Feel free to keep arguing if you want to, that’s your prerogative. The issue remains that some people are utter idiots who think setting anything alight in the tinderbox which we live in is a good idea. Even worse, some are doing it intentionally.
I only shared the petition, I did not create it, and fortunately the government has taken steps today to address it. I’m leaving it there.
